(Clearwisdom.net) The friends of Dafa practitioner Wang Weiyu--a student at Tsinghua University--were all shocked
when they heard that undercover police officers abducted him in August 2002. Since I have known him
for a long time, I decided to write what I know about Weiyu, just in case the malicious thugs write
some derogatory comments to deceive the world's people. Wang Weiyu is 29 years old and was born in Shandong Province. He was diligent and upright and
always earned outstanding academic grades. His high school teachers can still easily recall stories
about him. Before applying to college, with exemption from examinations for his excellent academic
grades, Weiyu was admitted to five prestigious universities, including Tsinghua University, Peking
University, University of Science and Technology of China and China Xiehe Medical University. In the
end he chose the Department of Precision Instruments and Machine Technology and began his nine-year
study at Tsinghua University, where he entered in 1991 and was forced to leave school in 2000
because of practicing Falun Dafa. During his five-year undergraduate studies, he was awarded the
Outstanding Student medal, Outstanding Student scholarship, Ultimate Scholarship for Instruments and
Mechanics in China, (the first time this was awarded to an undergraduate student) as well as a
Phillips Scholarship. He was class coordinator, class Youth League chairman, deputy president of the
Science Association, and deputy head of Youth League of Department of Precision and Machine
Technology. Because of his outstanding performance and moral character, the Department of Precision and
Machine Technology admitted him in 1996 to a Ph.D. program with exemption from examination. His
mentor was a noted optics information processing professor. Because of his diligence and the help
from a well-known mentor, Weiyu progressed rapidly in his professional studies. One year after he
joined a research project, he published several articles in Chinese and international professional
journals and was awarded a patent, number 00103362.X. Weiyu obtained Falun Dafa in early 1997. He used to tell me that he felt he had a Master when he
was young, but he didn't know where that Master was. He felt like he had found the path home after
he obtained the Fa. From the day he obtained the Fa, he began continuously introducing Dafa to
teachers, students, family members and friends around him. Many people learned about Falun Gong
through him and took the path of cultivation. Friends knew his sincerity, compassion, selflessness and tolerance, and they liked to be with
him. Even the most selfish and unreasonable person treated him as a best friend and was willing to
confide in him. Since 1997, Weiyu worked as a tutor for new students for 1997, and kept this
position for two years. This was a difficult job. During this time, Weiyu spread Dafa principles to
new students and never forgot to conduct himself according to Dafa. He treated others with kindness
and was selfless and altruistic. When it was cold, he gave his coat and pants to poor students. When
students couldn't pay tuition, he helped them get work-study opportunities within the department.
When someone fell violently ill, he took him/her to the emergency room himself and sent all the
other people home to rest, while he stayed with the patient. Several years later, because of work
reasons, a student of '97 class who had been forced to leave school and was doing a temporary job
met Weiyu. He held Weiyu's hands and said sincerely, "We often mention you in our gatherings
and we were concerned about your situation. You were the teacher we admired most during five years
in college. I hope everything is fine with you." After the persecution began in 1999, the school never gave a day of peace to Falun Gong
practitioners. In late 1999 and early 2000, the school asserted pressure on practitioners after
receiving persecution orders from the government. They threatened the Dafa practitioners with loss
of Party membership, job, retirement pension, etc. In September and October 1999, Weiyu was detained
twice by people from the Tsinghua Police Station at the university, along with other practitioners,
for attending experience-sharing meetings. He was forced to squat four to five hours and was
interrogated until late at night. The public cultivation environment in Tsinghua University was thus
destroyed. Weiyu still promoted Falun Dafa to people around him as he had always done. He pointed out the
government's mistake of persecuting Falun Gong. The department thought Weiyu was the leader and
talked to him many times. They threatened him with expulsion without graduation and suspended him
for two months, which was later extended to four months. He was sent to the home of his
parents-in-law in Shanghai for "re-education." Wang Dongsheng, the department teacher in
charge of the persecution against Falun Gong and Zhou Ruizeng went to Shanghai in person and coerced
Weiyu's father-in-law to "advise" Weiyu with threats of "expulsion from the Party and
school if Weiyu doesn't give up Falun Gong." His high school, Taian High School, had decided to
award him the honor of outstanding student, but when they learned Weiyu practiced Falun Gong at
Tsinghua University, they immediately canceled his award. When faced with sudden and tremendous
pressure, the overwhelmed Weiyu wrote a statement against his true will in which he played word
games. He was able to return to school. However, he quickly realized his mistake and regretted it. In May 2000, Weiyu solemnly wrote an
announcement to correct his mistake. At that time, Minghui Net did not yet have the column
"Solemn Declarations." On that day, Weiyu met the persecutor Wang Dongsheng in the busy
department hall. He said word for word to Wang Dongsheng in front of many teachers and students,
"All of my previous words and actions that were against Dafa are completely void" and
handed in his statement. Wang Dongsheng held the statement in his hand and gave an embarrassed
smile, "You should think about this, just think about this." Weiyu kindly advised Wang
Dongsheng not to damage Dafa, "Every conflict in history, whenever right and wrong were
switched, always ended up with the upright defeating the evil." He was eventually able to
bravely face the pressure. Hearing his heart-felt words, several other Dafa practitioners in the
same department also turned in solemn declarations to the school and got back their guarantee
statement. Later, Master published the scripture "Towards Consummation." In Tsinghua University, a
group of practitioners realized their mistake and went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa. The
university party committee and related department officials became flustered because the
"reformed" practitioners changed back. During a meeting held by the Party branch committee
of the doctoral students class, the branch secretary even pounded on the desk and shouted, "If
you still practice Falun Gong, I won't live in the same building as you! I'll stab you with a
knife!" Weiyu was calm and kind. The school again forced him to leave. The teachers at the
research and teaching group lost their capable assistant and had to face stagnation in their
scientific research; they became angry and cursed the school. Weiyu only smiled. Before he left, he
did his best in his transition at the laboratory and he took all his personal belongings with him.
He knew that the only thing he could do was to tell people the truth; otherwise he would never be
able to come back if he doesn't give up cultivation. The days without a job and stable living place were difficult, yet open and dignified. With his
professional skills, Weiyu found a good job and became an essential technical worker at his company.
He earned a good salary but lived a very simple life. He often bought cheap baked buns for
breakfast. He used all of his money for Dafa work and helping other practitioners. As a
practitioner, Weiyu set high standards for himself. He often said to fellow practitioners, "I
must do good. Otherwise, if one day my company knows I practice Falun Gong, they will judge Dafa
with my behavior. I can't let them misunderstand Dafa and Master because of my shortcomings."
Not a single cent from his company's expense account was spent on his private affairs. He even tore
up a taxi receipt he got on his way to work. Every time he went out to visit clients, he first
checked to see if there was a bus that he could take to save his company money, as opposed to taking
a taxi. No one was watching him, and no matter how much good he did, maybe no one would ever know.
Some people even think this is stupid. However, practitioners know this is one of the most basic
requirements. In his company, Weiyu grasped all opportunities to clarify the truth and to tell the principles
to all colleagues and everyone else he could get in touch with in a direct or indirect manner. Just
as before, colleagues and friends liked him and loved to talk with him, every one of them. For the
New Year 2001, the company boss took out 3,000 Yuan to set up a lottery for the employees. Weiyu got
the money. Some people cheered, some were jealous and some felt sorry for themselves. Weiyu
immediately gave 1,000 Yuan to another department that often cooperated with his department and gave
the remaining 2,000 Yuan to his supervisor, to be distributed among his colleagues. Once, two of his colleagues met and talked about the meaning of life. One sighed and said people
are now bad and pursued only fame and fortune. One suddenly said, "I know a noble person."
Another said, "I also know one." When they said the name, it was the same -- Weiyu. The university had tried several times to find Weiyu. They called his parents with the seemingly
good excuse that others had come back and they hoped he would come back to finish his Ph.D. degree
in order to graduate from the university. In fact, they wanted to force him to accept brainwashing.
Weiyu saw through their ulterior motives and was not fooled by it, but they didn't give up. For a
student who left school and sought to be true to his beliefs, the authorities even had national
security personnel track him down. They kidnapped him despicably. They tried to block the news of
his arrest from his coworkers and family members in order to arrest more practitioners. At the moment when he knew he would be arrested, he didn't have time to call his family from his
cell phone, but called his employer to inform them of his resignation from the company, because any
company who hired Falun Gong practitioners would be fined and the involved personnel, such as the
person who hired him, would be in trouble, too. Jiang's regime wants people to be too scared to have
close associations with Falun Gong practitioners. Through his resignation, Weiyu protected personnel
in the company. In fact, everyone has the ability to think independently. Someday they will understand and make
the right choice. If we always think of them with compassion and provide them opportunities to know
the facts, and inspire their goodness, they will get the message. Weiyu told me a story. In order
for one of his deceived friends to get to know the truth, he would carpool daily with his friend in
the friend's car and discuss such things as treating loved ones, the education of children, the
purpose of life, and what true compassion is. They would talk all the way to his friend's home. Then
he would take a bus to go home. Eventually his friend was moved and changed his attitude toward
Falun Gong. This friend even spoke up vigorously for Falun Gong during a gathering of friends, which
made others assume he was a Falun Gong practitioner, too. Weiyu's effort is not wasted. After Weiyu's arrest, a fellow practitioner made a random call to
his company to get some more details. One of his colleagues in the same department answered the
phone. His colleague said with passion, "Weiyu is a very good person. He has helped almost
everyone here. What happened to him? What's going on? How can we help?" The fellow practitioner told me he almost cried when he heard these words. It was not because of
the comments about Weiyu, but the fact that these colleagues and friends who got to know Weiyu day
and night, would be certain not to believe the TV and newspaper propaganda. Since they have personal
experiences and had gotten to know Falun Gong practitioners' principles and their way of dealing
with people and society, they would not misunderstand Falun Dafa.
"Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance" is the criteria for all in the universe. If a living
being is hostile to the principles of the universe, that being's future will be very sad. This is
why we practitioners persist to clarify the truth, over and over, to those deceived people, under
such evil high pressures that some have to move around from place to place to avoid persecution and
face a life of danger. Up to now, there is no news about Weiyu's whereabouts. I don't want to imagine what will happen
to him. I recalled the scene in the hall of the Department of Precision Instruments and Machine
Technology again and again. When a person knows the true meaning of life, s/he will be able to
uphold it to the end even if s/he may temporally and unwillingly lose his/her way. "These are
actually people who have awakened, they are cultivators who have learned the true meaning of
life." "You should know that once a person learns the truth and the real meaning of life,
he will not regret giving up his life for it." (From "Some Thoughts
of Mine") We should do our best to help more people know the truth and completely foil any
opportunities for evils to deploy those deceptive methods. ********************** Note: It is unknown where Weiyu is. I just want to write down the cultivation story of a Dafa
practitioner in Tsinghua University who gradually matured in cultivation. During this persecution in
China that blotted out the sky and covered the earth, millions of Dafa practitioners have no
spectacular deeds or moving and generous speeches, and just do their ordinary jobs without
attracting public attention. However all their words and deeds have merged into a glorious epic
during Fa-rectification that moves one to tears and sings their praises. Here, a salute to all
