Falun Dafa Practitioner Song Tao Sentenced to 18 Years
By a Dafa Practitioner from Mainland China
(Clearwisdom.net) Song Tao, a Falun Dafa practitioner in Jiamusi City,
Heilongjiang Province, was illegally arrested in Weihai by police from
Fushan district, Yantai, in July 2002 and charged with intercepting TV
signals to broadcast Falun Dafa truth-clarifying information. In December
2002, he was put on trial and sentenced to eighteen years' imprisonment.
[Note: For most people in the west, trials imply justice, but fair trials do
not exist in China for Falun Gong practitioners. The legal mechanisms that
produce fairness, such as being able to cross-examine government witnesses,
are conspicuously absent. In addition, if a Falun Gong practitioner can get
legal representation at all, the defense counsel is not appointed until
after investigation, which can take months, and it is during this time that
an attorney is needed most. Lawyers are not entitled to "discovery" about
the government's case, cannot litigate aggressively for their clients, and
they must submit their legal strategy to the prosecutor for approval.]
Throughout his long ordeal, Song Tao has remained true to his beliefs.
People around the world, please show your concern. Fellow practitioners,
please send forth strong righteous thoughts to help Song Tao to eliminate
the evil's persecution and get out of prison as early as possible. (Please
