Women Dafa Practitioners Tortured in Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp, Zizhong County, Sichuan Province
Written On January 21, 2003
(Clearwisdom.net) I am a Dafa practitioner from Sichuan Province. On
November 26, 2001 I traveled to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa and was
arrested. The government later sentenced me to one year of forced labor. When I
was under detention in Beijing, the police beat me up badly. Later, during my
detention at Chengdu's Pi County Detention Center, I started a hunger strike and
was force-fed by the police. During my later detention in Namusi Women's Forced
Labor Camp, I openly erected my right hand to send forth righteous thoughts in a
"criticizing meeting." (Please note: meetings in which with camp authorities
require inmates to verbally examine their reasons for being there, and admit
some kind of guilt for wrongdoings, imaginary and otherwise). As punishment,
the camp authorities extended my detention by one month. Other practitioners and
I experienced severe persecution during brainwashing activities.
Beginning in November 2002, Nanmusi Forced Labor Camp authorities started a
new round of brainwashing against Dafa practitioners. They transferred several
dozen new inmates into the camp. More than thirty criminal inmates were in each
Middle Team to beat up practitioners. Police officers in Middle Team Seven,
especially team leader Zhang Xiaofen, forced all the determined practitioners to
endure a form of punishment in which practitioners are made to stand still for
long periods of time. Then they sent in some collaborators [former Falun Gong
practitioners who have gone astray and turned against Dafa due to brainwashing
and torture]to try to brainwash us. If someone disagreed with them, the
criminal inmates would beat up the practitioner. Some practitioners were forced
to stand outdoors for 18 to 21 hours a day. Sometimes they even stood for 24
hours. This physical abuse typically lasted more than ten days, rain or shine.
The practitioners were forced to stand straight; no movement is allowed. Even
when they have meals, they are told to stand upright and not look down. Those
who refuse to comply are subjected to intensified persecution. Inmates in nearby
Middle Team Two also said that they heard screams from torture every day in Team
Seven.
In Middle Team Eight, team leader Li Qi locked up more than a dozen
determined practitioners in a small room. These practitioners spent all their
time in the room. Every day at 6:00 a.m.. they had to get up and sit still on a
bench for the whole day. They were not allowed to sleep until past midnight. The
guards limited their face washing and teeth brushing to once a day at 11:00
p.m., allowing them only a few minutes. They could take only one shower per
month. Several other practitioners were locked up in solitary confinement. In
order to break their spirit, the guards in Team Eight forced some practitioners
to go through the standing torture. Normally, the practitioners were ordered to
stand still from 6:00 a.m.. to midnight. Some even stood till 3:00 a.m. Many
practitioners suffered so badly from swollen feet that they couldn't even wear
shoes. They had to endure sub-zero, freezing winter weather. Many of them had
frostbite on their hands, feet and face. Some collaborators offer to assist the
police to persecute Dafa practitioners. The collaborators include, Wan
Qin, Zhao Fengying, Wan Tong, Ren Tianrong, Ma Yuman, Wen Yuechao, Meng Qing.
They not only spread lies, but also actively abuse practitioners who refused to
listen to them.
The Labor Camp authorities not only ignored the physical violence, but also
encouraged such behavior by rewarding the abusers. They handed out several
thousand Yuan cash to the abusers for each "reformed" practitioner. Education
section chief Li Ziqiang claimed before the Chinese Party's 16th
National Congress, "We expect that during the 16th Party Congress,
the Party will create new policies to further punish you people."
I once was ordered to remain standing around the clock for nine days! No
sleep, no sitting down was allowed. I was not allowed even to bend my back. Even
during meals I had to stand still. I couldn't even use the restroom more than
once a day. Due to the prolonged restroom ban I had to urinate in my pants
during the cold winter night. The longest standing torture lasted 15 days. Many
practitioners became very weak. Their feet were so swollen and stiff, they
couldn't even walk. Many practitioners held a hunger strike to protest the evil
abuse. The police used tools to pry open their mouths to force-feed these
practitioners. Some practitioners ended up with broken teeth and bloody mouths.
When we became extremely exhausted and disoriented, the police would bring
documents prepared by the collaborators to denounce Dafa and tried to force us
to sign them; and they finger printed us, myself included. They did this to
almost all detained practitioners, creating a false impression that
practitioners had abandoned Dafa. Afterwards, many practitioners felt extremely
remorseful and they did not acknowledge the "transformation." Some expressed
that they would write a statement to undo the damage to Dafa. The guards were so
afraid that this might happen that they took away the paper and pens, so the
practitioners had nothing to write on.
The majority of the so-called "transformed" practitioners asked me to write
to Clearwisdom to clarify their situation. They want to undo what has been
forced on them. They all expressed that they will continue their strong belief
in Dafa. Because of this regrettable experience, they all feel very aggrieved
and their time in the labor camp is very hard to endure.
