Western Practitioner Who Validated Dafa at Tiananmen Square Writes to US Senator on Behalf of Charles Li

Dear Senator and Staff,

You helped to rescue me last year when I went to China to ask the Jiang regime to stop its persecution of Falun Gong. The Beijing police unlawfully held me against my will at that time. They did not arrest me and said that I was a guest, but would not let me leave the detention facility that they were holding me in. They also denied me access to our embassy officials in Beijing. Thank you for helping me out of that situation.

I'm writing to ask for your help in securing the release of another American citizen that is being held against his will and as of yet (about three weeks) has not been charged with any crime. His name is Charles Li.

Charles went back to China to celebrate the Lunar Chinese New Year and visit his elderly parents. He was detained without reason upon landing at China's Guangzhou Airport on January 22nd and was transferred about 1,000 miles away to the Yangzhou Detention Center in Jiangsu Province. Two days later, Chinese authorities notified the U.S. consulate in Shanghai that Charles would be formally charged. But, as far as I know, he has not been charged.

It is certain that the Chinese government will attempt to 'railroad' this innocent

American with trumped-up charges. As you can see, this situation is very serious. Dr. Charles Li is an exemplary U.S. citizen from Menlo Park, Ca. He has done research at Harvard University. Charles also manages a business in the Bay Area and is engaged to be married.

Thank you once again for helping to secure my safe return home last year. I know how the Chinese government treats honest, good people from first hand experience. That is why I'm writing to request help in rescuing Charles. No American should have to suffer under these conditions. Currently, Congresswoman Eshoo has initiated a Dear Colleague letter to gather support for demanding Charles' release. I hope that you will also take action to help Charles come home safely.
