(Clearwisdom.net) Prior to the Chinese Lunar New Year, Ms. Yeong-ching Foo, fiancée of US
citizen Charles Li, who is currently detained by Chinese authorities, went to Washington DC to seek
help for his release. California Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo appealed to all members of the US Congress Human Rights
Committee and others concerned with human rights to stand together with her to help Charles. According to the US consulate in Shanghai, on January 22, Charles Li, a US citizen from the San
Francisco Bay Area was arrested by Chinese security officers shortly after he landed at Guangzhou
Airport in China. He was then transferred to Yangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, thousands of miles
away from Guangzhou. US consular officials are allowed only one 30 minutes meeting with Charles Li
per month. Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo urged other Congress members in her appeal letter to jointly convey
their concerns for Mr. Li and request his release. She invited them to jointly sign a letter to Mr.
Yang Jiechi, Chinese Ambassador in the US to request the Chinese government to release Charles Li
immediately. Charles Li's Chinese name is Li Xiangchun. He is in his 30's, and holds a doctoral degree in
medical science. He formerly did research at Harvard University, and moved to the San Francisco Bay
Area in 2000. He manages his own business related to Chinese medicine. Lai Ning, Falun Gong
spokesperson for rescuing Charles Li said, "Falun Gong practitioners' position is that Charles
Li did not commit any crimes. He is an American citizen, and the Chinese government should release
him immediately." Ms. Yeong-ching Foo, Charles' fiancee, is a software engineer, a graduate of the University of California, Davis. She is seeking help in Washington DC to rescue Charles. She said that Charles
went back to China to visit his family and relatives. He operates an Import/Export Company dealing
with traditional Chinese medicine in China. Ms. Foo is concerned for her fiancee's safety. She said, "China has adopted brutal and
horrendous methods to suppress Falun Gong. I know nothing about Charles' current situation. I hope
he can come back soon."
