Letter from the Swedish Falun Dafa Association to the UK Secretary of State for the Home Department

Your Excellency,

Kindly read our highly urgent letter of appeal for Lili Lin, who is at this moment detained for deportation to China. Her life will be in danger the moment she steps on Chinese soil.

Lili Lin, 28, applied for asylum in Manchester in October 2001 on grounds of being a practitioner of Falun Gong. Then she moved from Manchester to Liverpool to live with her husband, Jinfei Zhang, a PhD student at Liverpool University.

She informed the Home Office of her change of address and has been reporting to the Home Office in Liverpool regularly.

At 3 pm, 26th February 2003, as usual, Lili reported at the Home Office in Liverpool. Without warning an immigration officer announced that she was to be deported immediately. She asked to see her husband, but was refused. Four policemen came up, pressed her down to the floor, and dragged her into a room, where she was locked until 8.30 pm. She was not given any food or water when she was locked in there. They then sent her to a deportation centre in Manchester.

There must be a misunderstanding somewhere. Lili is not a criminal. Neither is she attempting to hide herself from the immigration authorities.

We implore Your Excellency to look into the matter immediately. Sending Lili back to China would a deadly mistake.

Look at how Din Yan, 32, a Falun Gong practitioner and hairdresser from Shijiazhuang City in Hubei Province in central China was treated. She died in Chengde City Prison in September 2001. She was stripped naked and locked in an iron cage with spikes on all sides. The cage was submerged in dirty water up to her neck. There was no light in the cell. She was left to die in this way. This is just of out of many eyewitness reports on victims of the persecution.

Jiang and several of his officials were sued for genocide and torture while they were abroad. This situation for Falun Gong practitioners in China is extremely serious.

Many Falun Gong practitioners like Ding Yan have faced equally brutal ways of death. We beg you to use the authority of your office to save Lili Lin from the threat of a similar outcome.
