We Urge the Chinese Government to Immediately Release U.S. Citizen Dr. Charles Li

(Clearwisdom.net) A "high court" in Mainland China recently staged an illegal show trial of U.S. citizen Dr. Charles Li. He was sentenced to three years in prison, after which time he is to be expelled from China. This is a farce that is completely fabricated and directed by Jiang's political regime. Besides trampling on the Chinese Constitution, it is an insult to civilization and justice. We strongly condemn the court's decision, and we urge the Chinese government to immediately release Dr. Li.

As a matter of fact, it is Jiang's political regime that should be put on trial for its inhumane persecution of Falun Gong practitioners. Identified as a "Human Rights Scoundrel" by Amnesty International, the dictator of Mainland China has launched a systematic persecution of Falun Gong practitioners that has lasted nearly four years through the manipulation of a state-terrorist organization known as the "610 Office" [an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems]. Under a policy in which "beating Falun Gong practitioners to death is considered as their committing suicide," at least 641 Falun Gong practitioners have been tortured to death for their belief in "Truthfulness, Compassion and Tolerance." Therefore, the trial of Dr. Li by the Jiang regime's court is actually a case of a murderer trying a victim.

The Jiang regime has highjacked the public media to rampantly slander Falun Gong. In addition, they have set up an Internet blockade and interfered with the signals of overseas radio and TV stations, so as to deprive the Chinese people of their right to be informed. When Falun Gong practitioners in Changchun and other cities tapped into the local television signals to broadcast programs exposing the persecution against Falun Gong in China, they were actually upholding the freedom of speech endowed by the Chinese Constitution. In addition, they were upholding the right of the citizenry to be informed. Their actions were an attempt to return the public media to the public so that it is legal and just. Even if the Jiang regime's charge against Dr. Li of supposedly "tapping into local television" were true, it can be likened to an armed robber prosecuting the person who reports him to the police.

Overseas Falun Gong practitioners will continue to expose the Jiang regime's crimes of kidnapping Dr. Li and staging this shameless show trial. We will continue to call on the help of governments and the world's people to rescue Dr. Li, who is innocent of any crime.

We strongly urge the Chinese Government to unconditionally release Dr. Li as well as all Falun Gong practitioners being illegally detained in China. We call for Jiang and his accomplices to be punished by the law. We believe that the Chinese Government's reputation should not continue to be damaged by Jiang's political regime.

Every day that Dr. Li remains in detention is another day that we will work wholeheartedly for his rescue. We will continue to appeal for his release until he returns to the United States safely and is reunited with his fiancée.
