Wife Tortured to Death, Husband Detained: the Persecution of Practitioner Li Wanqing's Family

(Clearwisdom.net)

Practitioner Li Wanqing was living in Weigou, Chaoyang District, Beijing. On the day of the 2000 Spring Festival, while on his way to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa, he was arrested by the police and sentenced to a year in jail. During that time, his wife, practitioner Mei Yulan, was tortured to death.

Mei Yulan was arrested on May 13, 2001 -- World Falun Dafa Day, while she was doing the Falun Gong exercises outdoors. While in the Chaoyang Detention Center she went on a hunger strike in protest of her illegal arrest and detention. On May 18, she was force-fed without the absence of doctors. Her cries of pain could be heard throughout the entire corridor.

By the night of May 22, her stomach was bleeding. She was sent to the hospital, and passed away on May 23rd. Because he would not renounce his belief in Falun Gong, Li Wanqing remained imprisoned and was unable to visit his wife before her death. The Chaoyang Detention Center blocked all news of Mei Yulan's murder. To avoid responsibility, the detention center's supervisor and Dr. Ma of the center forced criminals to testify that the supervisor and doctor were not at the facility when the deadly force-feedings took place.

Li Wanqing's sentence was illegally extended for another six months because of his steadfast belief in Falun Gong. He was released on August 15, 2001. In September or October of the same year, Li Wanqing was arrested again and detained in the Chaoyang Forced Labor Camp of Beijing. This left his elderly father and young daughter without anyone at home to take care of them.
