In the Xinhua Forced Labor Camp, Sichuan Province, the police and inmates brutally persecute Dafa disciples. Since the police formed a subdivision especially to persecute Dafa disciples in July 2001, each disciple was kept under surveillance by two prisoners. They prohibited Dafa disciples from talking, borrowing daily utensils or books, possessing paper or pen, writing home, making phone calls to family members, etc.

Only two minutes are given for cleaning, and one can change clothes only once every twenty or thirty days. As a result, most people have lice on them. Only two to three minutes are allowed for going to the bathroom. The practitioners are not given any freedom, and they are subjected to verbal and physical abuse at the slightest provocation. One is allowed to sleep only after 11 p.m., and has to get up at 5:30 a.m. One has to report and get permission to go to the bathroom at night, and two criminals must accompany him. Dafa disciples are forced to have the so-called "training," during which the police encourage criminals to curse and physically abuse Dafa disciples. Whoever refuses is tied up or shocked with high-voltage electric batons.

During a meeting intended to slander Dafa, a Dafa disciple spoke out loudly: "Falun Dafa is the righteous Fa." As a result, his term was illegally extended from 20 days to 3 months.

The police pay much attention to the so-called "transformation," trying hard to force practitioners to give up their practice of Dafa. Police are promised 10,000 to 30,000 Yuan (the average monthly income in China is about 500 Yuan) for each practitioner who renounces Dafa. For prisoners, they are promised a reduction of term anywhere between 20 days and 3 months. Moreover, the police encourage prisoners to physically abuse Dafa disciples. They would force the practitioners to maintain a standing position from 6:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., and then from 6:30 p.m. to 12 a.m. One can go to the bathroom only three times in between. In addition, when maintaining the standing position, each practitioner is accompanied by two prisoners, one on either side, who often find excuses to beat practitioners. A criminal Da Ji beat Mr. Hu, a Dafa disciple from Guanghan City in Sichuan Province, to the point where Hu's right arm became deformed. Another criminal broke the right ribs of Deng Jiangang, a Dafa disciple from Meishan County in Sichuan Province. During the night, more than 30 people sleep in a small room of 7 m x 3.5 m (about 23 ft. x 11 ft.). In such a situation, one cannot even lie flat. The filthy smell and heat are nearly unbearable. During the one-month persecution, more than ten practitioners' feet and legs were swollen, and they had to use the rail when walking on the stairs.

In March 2002, Xinhua Forced Labor Camp illegally extended the detention term of Dafa disciples.

In April 2002, with infectious disease as an excuse, the police ordered more than 10 prisoners to forcibly hold Dafa practitioners to the ground and force-feed them unknown drugs. Most practitioners' teeth were pried opened using screwdrivers, which resulted in bleeding inside their mouths.

On July 7, 2002, the police launched a signature campaign. They extended the detention term of the Dafa practitioners who refused to sign by 10 days.

On December 3, 2002, the police formed a "Special Team" in the 4^th Division to exclusively persecute Dafa practitioners. Among over 1000 prisoners in five subdivisions, they chose more than 130 prisoners, who were strong and had been jailed many times. Five policemen, including Zhao Yu, Wang etc. ordered them to physically abuse 23 Dafa disciples around the clock. During the freezing winter days with heavy snow, they forced Dafa practitioners to walk in parade steps or run long distances. Two prisoners accompanied one Dafa practitioners to run one circle, and then they were replaced by another two prisoners and continued the running. This lasted until 6:30 p.m. Deng Jiangang, a Dafa disciple in his 50s, limps along when he walks. However, using failing to report as an excuse, the police also included him for the all-day abuse. At 7 p.m. after dinner, they forced 17 practitioners to stand up straight and maintain that position until 12 a.m. They also tied up, brutally beat and shocked with high-voltage electric batons 7 Dafa disciples including Wu Fangjun, Li Bo, Zeng Geping, Lu Zhiyong, Zhou Hongjie, Wang Renwei, and Zeng.

During the 36 days of persecution, facing the vicious persecution with indestructible perseverance, 23 Dafa disciples safeguarded Dafa with their lives. Not a single Dafa disciple yielded to the evil. The authorities originally planned to end the "Special Team" on February 9, 2003, but they disbanded it on January 9, 2003.
