Inner Mongolia Falun Dafa Practitioner Yuan Shumei Persecuted to Death at Hohhot Forced Labor Camp
(Clearwisdom.net) Female Falun Dafa practitioner Yuan Shumei was from Chifeng City in Inner
Mongolia Province. While she was detained at Hohhot Forced Labor Camp, she
showed symptoms of having a stroke. Because Yuan refused to sign a "guarantee
statement"* to give up her belief in Falun Dafa, the jail police denied her
family's request to release her for medical treatment. Yuan died in February of
2003 at Hohhot Forced Labor Camp. Yuan Shumei was arrested in November 2000 for handing out truth-clarify
materials. She was illegally sentenced to three years in a forced labor camp
because she refused to sign a guarantee statement. During that time in Hohhot
Forced Labor Camp, Yuan started a hunger strike to protest the persecution.
Under the persecution, Yuan's health deteriorated, and she became very weak.
Later, she also exhibited stroke symptoms, and her condition worsened. In
January 2003, her family visited her and requested that she be released for
medical care. Hohhot Forced Labor Camp denied the request stating, "She will not
be released for medical treatment until she signs the guarantee statement.
Otherwise the labor camp will not be responsible even if she dies here." Although Yuan was already extremely weak, she still wrote down the words
"Will Not Sign" to her family. At the beginning of February 2003, Yuan Shumei
died from the persecution at Hohhot Forced Labor Camp. The policemen at the labor camp knew that Falun Dafa practitioners did not
break any law, but they still insisted on following the rule: release if sign a
guarantee letter, otherwise detain till death. *Guarantee statement: A statement to declare that he or she is remorseful
for practicing Falun Gong and guarantees not to practice Falun Gong again, not
to go to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong, and never again associate with any
Falun Dafa practitioners. Posting date: 4/30/2003 |
