(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Wu Guoliang taught politics at the Huludao City Gangtun Town Junior High in Liaoning Province. Because he persisted in practicing Falun Dafa, on October 20, 1999, they detained him in the Huludao Forced Labor Camp. During his detention term, he was tortured for a long period of time, while at the same time forced to do heavy physical labor. He was tortured to the point of emaciation, and his health became very poor; he was diagnosed to be in the advanced stages of pulmonary tuberculosis. Only then did labor camp officials discharge him for treatment. About ten days after he went home, Mr. Wu passed away.

Mr. Wu Guoliang was a very honest and kind person. He worked earnestly and was very amiable and easy to get along with. In 1997, he and his wife Du Li started practicing Falun Gong. Shortly after he obtained Dafa, Mr. Wu's pulmonary tuberculosis, which had troubled him for many years, finally went away without any further treatment. Mr. Wu volunteered as an assistant at a local practice site and treated other fellow practitioners warmheartedly. In 1998, flooding occurred in Southern China and caused a lot of losses for government and local residents alike. The school officials organized a donation drive among employees, and without hesitation Mr. Wu and his wife donated all their savings, totaling 5,000 Yuan, to the people in the disaster zone (Note: an urban worker's average monthly salary is about 500 Yuan.). At the employees' meeting, the school praised his behavior.

Around July 20, 1999, along with his wife Du Li, Mr. Wu went to the provincial capital, Shenyang City, to appeal to the government and validate Dafa. They were later sent back to their local police station. Because they kept up their Falun Gong practice, the vicious policemen in Gangtun Town Police Station illegally detained them for 4 or 5 days.

On October 20, 1999, people from the Gangtun Town Police Station forcibly took Mr. Wu Guoliang out of his home and sent him to the brainwashing class located in the third floor office in the town government building, declaring to them, "don't think about leaving without been 'transformed'. " (At the same time, Cao Yanzhuo, Zhao Lianxin, Tian Zhongxin and some forty other local practitioners were detained.) Sheng Xuejun, the town Party Secretary, Lin Ke, the deputy Party Secretary and Ma Enyou, the director of the police station, said, "Once you write the pledge to stop practicing, to not appeal and to not gather together, and pay 500 to 3,000 Yuan, you will be released." At that time, Mr. Wu demanded to be set free since he was innocent of any crime. Since his request met no reply, he started a hunger strike. In the daytime, practitioners were guarded and forced to keep walking around the yard, and were insulted in front of their friends and relatives. Mr. Wu and other practitioners were forced to do heavy physical labor on the farm and guarded by people from the police station. On the night of October 23, because Mr. Wu kept up his hunger strike, Meng Qingjun, Wang Zhanjie, Zhao He and others from the police station brought him to the operating room, beat and kicked him, and used excruciating means of torture on him for more than two hours. On October 24, the town police station sent Mr. Wu to the Huludao City Detention Center.

During those seven days in the detention center, because Mr. Wu Guoliang insisted on practicing Falun Gong, he was beaten and subjected to a torture called Kaiguan (Note: the victims are stripped to their underwear, pushed to the floor face-down and beaten with one-inch diameter plastic sticks, from the shoulders all the way to the legs) The beating resulted in wounds all over Mr. Wu's body and the marks were visible for over a month.

On October 31, 1999, Mr. Wu was illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor and sent to the Huludao Forced Labor Camp. Because of the long hunger strike, in addition to the torture and persecution, his health quickly deteriorated. He had difficulty breathing and was not able to eat much. He shook while walking and lost a lot of weight. He was in a life-threatening state. However, Mr. Wu was still forced to do heavy labor, such as digging trenches. He was guarded by criminals and forced to perform the labor with almost no breaks. If he slowed down a little, they would beat him up. After the "work" during the day, he was forced to go to brainwashing sessions in the evenings. Like other practitioners, Mr. Wu frequently received verbal and physical abuse. With his deteriorated health condition, the labor camp promised to send him to the hospital for examination, yet they delayed it again and again. The authorities finally sent him to the hospital once they saw that Mr. Wu was on the verge of dying. The examination results showed advanced tuberculosis. To avoid taking responsibility, the camp rushed to call Mr. Wu's family and inform them to take him back home. However, his wife Mrs. Du Li was also illegally detained in Masanjia Forced Labor Camp at that time, under a three-year sentence, and nobody in his family was available. Thus, some local practitioners went to take Mr. Wu back home. At that time, Mr. Wu had to be carried out of the labor camp. That was early December 1999.

When local practitioners heard that Mr. Wu Guoliang had returned home, they went to see him. He struggled to sit up, with both hands shaking, and he had to push down on his legs to support his upper body. His voice was faint and he kept coughing. A little more than 10 days later, Mr. Wu, a determined Dafa practitioner, quietly passed away during the night, at age 35.
