Partial Record of Persecution of Dafa Practitioners in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Ms. Zhang Xiuli of Liancheng Aluminum Factory in Lanzhou City was arrested in February 2003. Also arrested was practitioner Xiao Tai. The police confiscated all equipment at the site used for making truth-clarifying materials. The two practitioners are now illegally imprisoned in Lanzhou City (the exact site is unknown). The city police department, the county police department and personnel from the factory security office have been monitoring her home for a long time, attempting to catch other Dafa practitioners visiting there.

Gao Jun, male, about 30 years old, has a master's degree. He works at a forestry department in Gansu Province. Previously, he was arrested outside of Lanzhou City because he clarified the truth of Falun Dafa. He refused to work with the evil force, and was sentenced to one and a half years of forced labor. He was also imprisoned and tortured in Ping'antai Labor Camp in Lanzhou City. One evening in mid-March of 2003, Lanzhou police broke into his house and forcibly took him away, not even giving him a chance to put on his shoes. The police illegally took his computer, some equipment and other goods. We do not currently know where he is imprisoned.

Jiang Wenyu, female, 36 years old, graduated from a professional college. She works at Qilihe District Relocation Management Office in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. Because she remained firm in her belief in Dafa, she was compelled to be destitute and homeless in order to escape arrest, and remains so today. On January 1, 2001, she went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa, but was arrested and taken back to her hometown. She was imprisoned in Lanzhou City's Taoshuping Detention Center for 15 days in the name of the so-called "interference with public security management" law. Later, she was forcibly taken by her work unit to the Hanjiahe Drug Rehabilitation Center in Lanzhou City for further brainwashing and persecution. Not until April 2, 2001, was she released "under certain conditions." On December 25, under orders from the "610 Office,"* her work unit forcibly locked her up in her office, and tried to force her to write the "three statements."* They also threatened that if she did not write them, they would immediately sentence her to forced labor. Jiang Wenyu was able to successfully escape that very night, and has since lived destitute and homeless.

Meng Lan, female, is over 60 years old. She works at Nanguan Shizi Department Store in Lanzhou City. On December 24, 2000, she went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa. When the train was passing by Longxi station in Gansu Province, the plainclothes police together with local police savagely dragged 27 Dafa practitioners out of the train, and illegally imprisoned them in Longxi Drug Rehabilitation Center. Later, the practitioners were taken back to Lanzhou City (practitioners were cuffed in pairs) and imprisoned there. Inside Taoshuping Detention Center in Lanzhou City, the police imprisoned more than 150 Dafa practitioners. Starting December 25, practitioners went on a hunger strike to protest their detention. The hunger strike continued until January 2, 2001. On January 3, all the practitioners were unconditionally released. Without eating any food for nine days, the practitioners were forced to pay 270 Yuan board expenses. On March 31, 2001, because some vicious person reported them, she and her daughter Niu Xiaoqin were forced to leave home. At 11 p.m. on October 31, 2001, the police went to her home and pried open the door to arrest her (at that time, Lanzhou police were searching for practitioner Yuan Jiang). To avoid being caught by the police, Meng Lan jumped from the fourth floor, broke her leg, and was arrested and hospitalized. Her Dafa materials, cash and tape recorder were stolen from her home by the police. Since that time, her house and home phone have been continuously monitored.

Niu Xiaoqin, female, 40 years old, works at Nanguan Shizi Department Store in Lanzhou City. Starting in June of 1996, she began to practice Dafa. After July 20, 1999, for being steadfast in Dafa, she was laid off by the Department Store. On March 31, 2001, because an informant reported them, she and her mother, Meng Lan, became destitute and homeless to avoid illegal arrest. They went to many places in Lanzhou City to clarify the truth. On September 4, 2001, they were arrested by the police in Jinchang City. Later, they were sentenced to three years of hard labor. They are currently imprisoned in the No. 1 Team of No. 7 Division in Ping'antai Labor Camp in Lanzhou City.

Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.
