Zhong Hongxi, male, was a forty-eight year old Falun Dafa practitioner from Gebu Village, Fushun City, Liaoning Province. Mr. Zhong was illegally sentenced to 2 years in a forced labor camp in December 2001 because he insisted on practicing Falun Gong. While at Fushun City Forced Labor Camp (Wujiabao), Zhong was subjected to extreme torment. Fourteen months later, he was on the brink of death. To shirk responsibility, police at the labor camp released him on March 26, 2003. On April 12, 2003, Zhong passed away.

Zhong Hongxi started practicing Falun Gong in 1998. All five members of his family practice Falun Gong, and they benefited from it tremendously. In 1999, Zhong's whole family went to Beijing to validate Falun Dafa; four of them were either detained or sent to forced labor camps. His youngest son was 10 years old, and he had no one to care for him. Zhong was released in 2001 after he served his sentence. Local police would not let Zhong and his family live in Tiefa. They used the excuse that the Zhong's did not register their residence there. Without another option, the Zhong's moved to Fushun City. With help from some relatives, they found a place to live in Gebu Village and opened a convenience store.

To validate Falun Dafa, Zhong's second daughter and her boyfriend went to Beijing in December 2001. Her boyfriend was sentenced to 11 years in forced labor camp, and she was sentenced to 8 years. They were both sent to Dabei Prison in Shenyang. Zhong's oldest son-in-law was also illegally sentenced to 9 years in jail. Because Zhong's second daughter went to Beijing, officers from Gebu Village Police Station and the community office went to their home and harassed them. On December 24, 2001, Zhong's wife was sent to a detention center. Police tried to extort money from Zhong, but he refused to pay. Zhong demanded an explanation, "You detained my wife without cause, what are you asking money for?" On December 26, Zhong was sent to Fushun Forced Labor Camp (Wujiabao). Police confiscated everything from Zhong's convenience store. They also confiscated everything from the home of Zhong's sister-in-law. They took all the money, even pocket change. They sealed the doors and left a twelve-year-old behind, alone. Zhong's sister-in-law later went to the police and asked, "I am not a Falun Gong practitioner, why did you ransack my home?" The police replied, "Because it's YOUR sister who practices Falun Gong."

Zhong Hongxi was illegally sentenced to 2 years in forced labor camp. The jail guards tortured him. They tried to force him to give up his belief in Falun Dafa. Zhong was on his last legs after fourteen months in the labor camp. In order to shuffle off the responsibility, the labor camp released him on March 26, 2003. His home, however, was ransacked. His family had no means to pay for medical treatment. Zhong Hongxi returned home on March 26, and he died on April 12. Both his parents are over eighty years old, and his youngest son is only twelve.
