The Brutality I Experienced in the Suzhou Detention Center

In November 2000, in order to let more people know the facts of Falun Dafa, we passed out truth clarifying materials and were arrested by police from Suzhou Youlian Station in Jiangsu Province. They illegally interrogated us for 24 hours, and then transferred me to Suzhou No.1 Detention Center. The police told me that they would release me in a few days. Because I refused to give up my belief, the police cruelly tortured me. They did not allow me to talk with others. Prisoners watched me closely 24 hours per day and they forced me to memorize the rules and regulations of the jail. They tortured me on the "Tiger Bench" (Everyday, practitioners put their hands on top of their laps, with backs straight and sitting on tiny stools) for 8 hours per day. I was not allowed to move. Especially during the "strict control" period, this torture would span many consecutive days. I could not walk after 6 months of this torture. My eye-sight was getting blurry, I had trouble hearing and I had incontinence. I could not take care of myself, and people had to assist my every move. The jailors gave me injections that damaged my body.

Police said that they would push me into a mental collapse. Because I resisted their persecution, they put ankle shackles on me for over 20 consecutive days. They put me on trial after 9 months of torture. I had already been paralyzed, so people had to carry me to the courtroom. After another 2 weeks I was taken to court again, and they sentenced me to 8 years in prison. I learned later they had not notified my family about these trials. They tried to block all the information about how they tortured me. They would not allow me to write letters or have visitors. The court notified me that I could get out on parole for medical treatment. After all the necessary forms were filled out, they sealed off all my information and refused to let me go. Instead, they sent me to a labor camp. The camp doctor saw my medical files, found that I could not take care of myself and sent me back to the No.1 Detention Center. Police in the detention center still would not let me go. After another month, the medical check up reflected an ever-worsening condition. I once again filled out all the forms to be released on medical parole for treatment, and they still withheld my lawful request. I requested my medical records. They did not answer me and tried to send me to the labor camp again, but the camp sent me back again due to my physical condition. They later locked me in the detention center and tortured me repeatedly. My heart rate at this point was 120 beats per minute. After half a year, I was very close to death. They still insisted that I write a letter of regret, essentially denouncing Falun Gong. I had been tortured there for 18 months. After they released me to my home, I almost died, and I still need intensive care today. They still come to harass my family even under this situation. They called and sent people to look for me and threaten me. I cannot return to my home for fear of being tortured again. I have become destitute and homeless in order to avoid being illegally arrested.

My mother almost lost her life during the 18 months that I was detained. Now she has had several heart attacks. Police arrested me around 2 AM one night. More than 10 police stormed into our house and searched everything, making quite a mess. My 12 year old daughter was left all alone when they took me away. She passed out from fright. Now she has been severely traumatized. My husband developed heart disease during the period of my detention, because of the pressure and stress. He was resuscitated many times at the hospital after suffering heart attacks. Meanwhile, my other family members have all been threatened by the police.
