Recent Cases of Persecution against Practitioners in Shanghai

Xie Heng (about 30 years old) was captured on April 20, 2003, while passing out Dafa materials. The police had "visited" him several days before and saw that Xie had printers and copy machines at his home. Xie Heng was once illegally sentenced to one year in a labor camp in October 2000 at the Dafeng Labor Camp in Jiangsu Province. He was released after being detained there for 11 months. Currently, his situation is unknown. At the beginning of last year, Xie Heng's mother was illegally sentenced to three years in a labor camp because she passed out truth-clarifying materials.

Zhao Hongdong is 32 years old. His family lives in Urumuqi, Xinjiang Province, and his parents work in Shanghai. In early December 2000, Zhao was captured in Shanghai and illegally sentenced to two years in a labor camp. This March, he found a job in Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province. It has already been over one and a half months since anything has been heard from him.

Li Yewu, from Jiaodong in Shangdong Province, is a graduate of the Tongji University in Shanghai. On September 27, 2001, Li was illegally sentenced to two years in a labor camp. This year, just after New Year's Day, he was "closely monitored" by the authorities. He is now doing forced labor in a regular squadron.

According to a Dafa practitioner who was recently released, the atmosphere in the fourth unit of the fifth team in the Third Labor Camp of Shanghai has become intense since New Year's Day of this year. Several squadron heads that did not fulfill their "quota" (meaning they did not do well in forcing practitioners to give up their belief in Dafa) have been transferred to other units, or have retired early. Two evil policemen were transferred to the fourth unit. Their surnames are Xiang (over 40 years old), who is the present squadron head, and Zeng, who is around 26 years old. They would often curse and insult practitioners. The former evil squadron leader (surnamed Hong) has become a political instructor. All persecution matters are plotted and handled by him and by another person with the surname Sun.

Practitioners who are about to be released are in isolation and are watched by three prisoners from the labor camp. These practitioners are threatened by saying they will be directly sent to the legal system brainwashing classes in Qingpu if they do not let go of their beliefs. It is known that a few practitioners were sent there, including Sun Jie and Zhao Yang. Practitioners who wrote statements to denounce Dafa before, but who asked to renounce the statement are again kept in isolation. The labor camp prisoners are prompted by their squadron leaders and by the political instructors to beat the practitioners at will when needed. These officials promised to take all responsibility should practitioners be beaten to death. The reason they dare to act willfully is because there was an order from authorities that all practitioners must be "completely transformed" [forced to give up their practice of Falun Dafa].

The fifth team leader with the surname Wang, and his assistant with the surname Gu are also extremely wicked. Although they do not directly act themselves, they instigate other workers to do evil deeds.

The director general with the surname Wang from the Shanghai Labor Education Bureau often goes to the First and Third labor camps to pass out duties, to "inspect" their work, and to make speeches reversing right and wrong, while intimidating people at will.
