On the morning of April 14, 2003, a policeman from the Shuangliu City "610 Office"* who said his last name was Hu found practitioner Ms. Fan Ying, who was working in a workshop in Sichuan Province's Gear Wheel Factory. Hu asked the supervisor of the workshop for Fan Ying's performance. The director told him that Fan Ying was doing very well and was well liked by her colleagues. She was doing an extraordinary job at work, had never asked for days off work due to illness or personal matters. She had never been late for work or left work ahead of time, and that she had a very harmonious relationship with her colleagues. Hu couldn't think of anything to say and had to leave the workshop.

On April 16, police officer Xiong from the Wenxing Police Station, leading several policemen from the Security Section of the Gear Wheel Factory, suddenly broke into Ms. Fan Ying's home. They confiscated her Dafa books and some Dafa materials. These policemen sent Fan Ying to the Security Section of the factory, and then several large men dragged Fan Ying into a police car against her will. They transported her to Shuangliu County's Shuanghua Detention Center. Fan Ying didn't compromise her belief. She staged a hunger strike for more than ten days.

After policemen sent Fan Ying to Shuangliu County's Lianzhensuo Hospital for further persecution, Fan was able to escape. Afterwards, because Fan Ying was reported to the police, the police mobilized a lot of people to search for her and arrested her again.

Her current whereabouts are unknown. It is likely that Fan Ying was again sent to the Shuanghua Detention Center. When she was last seen, Fan Ying's clothes were full of bloodstains, her face was covered with bruises and she was injured when she was taken away the second time.

We urgently appeal to international human rights organizations to pay attention to this matter and help Fan Ying regain her freedom as soon as possible.

On May 18, Dafa practitioner Mr. Zeng Yonghao from Suining City was sentenced to nine years of imprisonment and deprived of political rights for three years.

On the evening of May 15, 2003, officers from Anju Town Police Station arrested Dafa practitioners Mo Chengbi, Xu Dishu and Shui Jinhua from Ba Village, Hengshan Town, from the middle district of Suining City, on the road from Heng Mountain to Renguo Mountain. The reason given for the arrest was the practitioners clarified the truth of Falun Gong to the public. They are now detained at the Lingquansi Detention Center.

Police officer Yang Chao, male, over 30 years old, is a resident of Baima Town, from the central district of Suining City. In the latter half 1999, he was transferred to the Lanjiang Police Station from the Baima Police Station. Every holiday during the year 2000 and also in March 2003, he was instrumental in ransacking practitioners' homes and illegally detaining, beating and cursing practitioners. Yang has also cursed Dafa and Master. In January 2003, he became assistant director of the Lanjiang Police Station.

From March 24 to April 1, personnel from the No.1 Section of Dayi County Police Department successively arrested six practitioners and detained them at the Jiyuan Police Station and the Xinchang Police Station. The practitioners suffered all kinds of tortures and beating. Among them are:

Mr. Li Jiarui, over 60 years old, a resident of Dunyi Village. He was transferred to another location after 15 days in a detention center. His whereabouts are unknown.

Mr. Xiao Zengyi, over 60 years old, a resident of Dunyi Village. He was arrested on April 1st and detained at the Xinchang Police Station. Zhou Wencai, chief of the Police Station's No.1 Section, instructed his men personally to use excruciating means to torture Mr. Xiao and ordered them to take turns beating the practitioner. They then tied him to a chair for six days and six nights, and denied him food. On the 7^th day, news that Xiao was missing came out. The police repeatedly ransacked the practitioner's home and forced his family members to turn him in to the authorities. Xiao's current whereabouts are unknown.

Ms. Chen Guiying, over 70 years old, a resident of Xiaonan Street, Dayi County. On the evening of April 7, personnel from the Police Station's No.1 Section ransacked Chen Guiying's home, abducted her that same evening and detained her for 15 days.

On March 7, 2003, Ms. Zhang Zhen, a copy shop owner in Yuantong Town, Chongzhou City, was arrested when she helped practitioners copy Dafa truth-clarifying materials. She was detained at Chongzhou City for 26 days and extorted 7,000 Yuan*.

On April 16, 2003, Chongzhou City Police Department personnel illegally sentenced practitioner Mr. Yang Xiaoqun from Yuantong Town, Chongzhou City to two years of imprisonment.

On April 25, 2003, police from Chongzhou City Police Department took practitioner Ms. Guo Yufang, an elementary school teacher from Xintong Town, Chongzhou City, to the so-called "Law Education Center" in Chengdu City. Actually, this center is a brainwashing center (the address: Huaqiao of Xinjin County). Zhou Yushu from Xintong Town Elementary School and Shi Yun from the township government were instigated to help brainwash Guo Yufang.

On May 16, 2003, practitioner Mr. Ma Houqin from Yingshan County, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province was sentenced to five years of imprisonment because of his determination to practice Falun Dafa.

On the morning of April 23, policemen from Huixian City started searching local practitioners and arrested dozens of them. Now practitioners Ms. Li Shuanyun, 40 years old, and Ms. Gi Meifang have been on a hunger strike for 26 days. Their situation is critical, as their lives are in danger.

On February 26, 2003, Minghui.net (Chinese version of Clearwisdom.net) reported news about Changsha City's Furong District Brainwashing Center in Hunan Province. On April 1st, two practitioners were unconditionally released. Eventually their nearly two years of illegal detention ended. Now other three practitioners are still detained in the brainwashing center. In the middle of April they went on hunger strikes for five days, seven days and eight days, respectively. Now the authorities are using the excuse of SARS to refuse visits from family members.

Before the Spring Festival of 2002, Guo Liancheng from Xisantiao Police Station in Kuancheng District in Changchun City, accompanied by some policemen, said to a practitioner's son, "Your mom is in trouble." They took the practitioner's son from his residence to see his mother. The practitioner was thus tricked into opening the door. After the door was opened, the police entered and ransacked the house. When they found 2,000 Yuan, they forced the son to give the money to them. Although the police later returned 1,000 Yuan, Guo Liancheng still kept 1,000 Yuan for himself.

In order to arrest Dafa practitioners who had left home to avoid persecution, officers of the Yali Town Police Precinct illegally arrested Dafa practitioners' parents and took them hostage. On or around April 25, 2003, Dafa practitioner Zhao Xinhuan and a non-practitioner Yue Huan were arrested.

Dafa Practitioner Wu Aiyun and Gong Yuzhen, from Xiaochou Town at the north of Mengzhou City, have been illegally detained at Mengzhou City Detention Center since March 1, 2003.

Gong Yuzhen's house was illegally searched and her family's whole life savings,

70,000 to 80,000 Yuan, was confiscated by police from Mengzhou City Police Department. The family has also been subjected to pressure and harassment from the police.

In April 2003, Guan Zhijun and Li Yancai were illegally arrested, and their houses were searched.

Several other Dafa practitioners were sent to a brainwashing center.

On March 12, 2003, the police security section authorities from Dalianhe Town's Gasification Factory in Yilan County used a work meeting to trick Mr. Zhen Chen to come to the factory from home, and then illegally detained him. During the detention, Dalianhe Town Police Precinct personnel illegally searched Zheng Chen's house. Later Zheng Chen was sent to Yilan County's No.1 Detention Center for persecution, and they are preparing to sentence Zheng Chen to forced labor.

The residential committee people in Beijing informed citizens by going door-to-door, telling everyone how to defend against SARS and gave them the contact numbers of hospitals and police precincts. They also said, "Anyone with a high fever should be reported in a timely fashion, and Falun Gong practitioners should be reported quickly."

Ms. Zhang Xiumei was illegally sentenced to three years of forced labor by the local court because she went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa. She was sent to the Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp. Because she was steadfast in her cultivation of Dafa and refused to cooperate with the police's demands, police officers repeatedly beat her and shocked her with electric batons. She was tortured to the point of being extremely weak. Finally she went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution, and her life was in danger.

In October 2001, policemen in Gaoyang County had to release Zhang Xiumei. During the 16^th Party Conference, although Ms. Zhang was very weak, policemen in Gaoyang County again illegally arrested Zhang Xiumei from home in Zhuolu County. When they forcibly took Zhang Xiumei away, they even knocked down her over 80-year-old mother, fracturing one of the older woman's upper arms. Her mother still cannot take care of herself. These policemen are indifferent to the elderly woman's injuries. Her family reported the case to the police authorities, but no one has shown any interest in this case at all.

* "610 Office" is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.
