Swedish Foreign Minister Condemns the Persecution of Falun Gong Again (Photo)
By Falun Gong practitioners in Stockholm
(Clearwisdom.net May 28, 2003) On May 24 2003, the Swedish
Foreign Ministry held an open day, allowing the public to ask questions on
topics they considered important. Falun Gong practitioners attended the open day
to thank the officials of Sweden for their help in the efforts to rescue Pirjo
Svensson, a Swedish practitioner who is illegally imprisoned in Bangkok. They
also asked the Swedish Foreign Minister Anna Lindh how the government can help
further in the efforts to rescue Pirjo, who is incarcerated in inhumane
circumstances and has yet to receive any reason for her mistreatment from the
Thai authorities.
Anna Lindh declared firmly: "[The Swedish Government] has invited the best
lawyer to defend the fact that Pirjo is innocent. We also demand the Thai
government unconditionally release Pirjo."
"We do not agree with the persecution of Falun Gong by the Chinese government
and have criticised them on this matter during official meetings. I have also
discussed this personally with the Chinese Foreign Minister. They claim that
Falun Gong is acting politically, but I tell them that even if Falun Gong does
act politically, you must respect Falun Gong's human rights." [please note
that Falun Gong is non-political].
In response to her words, the audience applauded loudly. Practitioners were
asked to introduce Falun Gong to the audience and later got the chance to speak
with Swedish officials who said that they had raised some important points
during the event.
