Restore Fundamental Human Values and Rectify the Root of the SARS Problem By Su Shan

Regarding the SARS virus having raised concerns and caused panic in the
world, I feel that there is something I must say. This is what a responsible
person should consider: It is just like when a person is deceived by a big lie.
When he notices a liar deceiving another person, he will feel obligated to let
the innocent person know. I would like to talk from my own experience in seeing
how the Chinese Communist ruling officials have deceived and lied.
I came to the United Kingdom three years ago. I had never left China before.
I was very shocked when I saw on the Internet that in 1989, thousands of Chinese
citizens and students had been killed by the Chinese army's gunfire and by being
run over by tanks on Beijing's streets. Inside China however, as average Chinese
citizens, the information we got from the government-controlled media did not
mention anything about any student or citizen getting hurt. On the contrary, the
media said that a few soldiers were brutally killed by "thugs" (they called the
students thugs). Of course it is impossible for you to get any real information
from the Internet inside China. Real information is blocked off outside the
gates of China.
Actually that was not the most shocking thing to me. The most shocking thing
happened on a day in July of 1999. Starting from that day, Falun Gong, an
ancient high level cultivation practice that had spread to over a dozen
countries in just seven years, and is now being enjoyed by over one hundred
million people, was slandered and labeled with all kinds of terrible and vicious
names. Before that, my confidence level towards the Chinese government was about
50%. But in July 1999, when I was watching this report on TV, I was stunned and
I couldn't be more disappointed towards the government.
I first learned about Falun Gong in 1997 when my father suddenly stopped
smoking and told me that it was because he started to practice Falun Gong.
Before that, my father had smoked for several decades. After reading Zhuan
Falun, I saw the world differently. Teacher Li Hongzhi systematically
elaborated on the characteristics of the universe, "Truthfulness, Compassion,
and Forbearance" in the book. I followed the book's principles in handling
tribulations in everyday life. I became more compassionate, relaxed, and
peaceful. My changes made people around me start to notice Falun Gong. I knew an
elderly practitioner who was over 60 years old, and who had a full head of white
hair. He started to grow dark hair after he took up Dafa practice. Such a good
cultivation practice was slandered by the government propaganda to become
something totally unrecognizable; cultivators like me are thrown into labor
camps, jails and mental hospitals. Hundreds and perhaps even thousands of people
have been beaten to death, including an eight-month old infant and his mother.
Officials and police claimed that those who were beaten to death, with wounds
all over their bodies, committed "suicide."
The reason I mention this is because I want to remind everyone that the
Chinese government is being run by a group of liars and people who don't care
about other people's lives. These people bring disaster to China and the Chinese
citizens; they also bring disaster to people of the world. Due to the loss of
morality, they put the world in danger. Even though they may appear
sanctimonious, deep down all they want is to deceive people.
In recent years, China has continuously attracted foreign investment, and
China is described as a big market with great potential. But the truth is that
many foreign businesses have lost their original investment and could not obtain
justice through the Chinese law. The government has taken the money from the
foreign investors, and part of the Chinese citizens' hard earned money, and put
on a mask of peace and tranquility. They built beautiful buildings in large
cities and completely ignored the fact that many people cannot even secure basic
food and shelter. They also have used a quarter of the gross national income to
persecute Falun Gong. They control the media, build jails, and hire police
officers and corrupt people in society to detain and viciously beat Falun Gong
practitioners. They even send agents overseas to monitor Falun Gong
practitioners and conduct spying activities. From the start, their persecution
of Falun Gong was based on lies. The scale and the methods of the persecution
are all extremely evil and they have resorted to every conceivable means. Their
lies follow one after another, and are directed toward the Chinese people.
Recently, SARS has become the focus of the world. Reportedly, the word "SARS"
was designated as a sensitive word to be filtered on the Chinese Internet; it is
treated the same way as the term "Falun Gong." The government has tried to make
people believe that SARS is already under control. The reality is that the
Chinese government's reports about the disaster are fabricated.
Ancient Chinese viewed the world as "heaven and people being one;" this view
of the world maintains that people's behavior should be in accordance with
nature and the universe. When a country or nation has high moral values, and
they discipline themselves, everything will proceed smoothly, the country will
be safe, and the citizens will live in peace. Doing the opposite will cause
disasters to occur, one after another. People need to treat this wisdom
seriously. Controlling disasters is not just a matter of technology; it is
necessary to go back to the fundamentals of being human and rectify the root of
the problem.
