Thirteen year-old Xie Ying is a practitioner from Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. Being very smart, she entered junior high school at the age of only eight and half years old, and was well known as a child prodigy. She began to cultivate Falun Dafa in November 1998 and has gained a deep understanding of Dafa. She was steadfast in her cultivation despite the persecution following July 20, 1999. She went to Beijing twice with her mother to clarify the truth, and was illegally detained five times. She was also forced to stay away from home for over a year.

In May 2000, the police illegally ransacked her home, arrested her and sent her to a brainwashing class in Lanzhou. They interrogated her about the situation in her home but she told them nothing. Neither the phony kindness of the evil nor the distorted reasoning of former practitioners who have turned against Dafa under pressure could confuse her. When her father took her home, the authorities demanded her to make certain promises. She rejected adamantly. She also refused to accept the school principal's request to not mention anything about Falun Gong in school after she went back. Facing possible expulsion, she still resolutely refused to give up her belief in Dafa.
