Is the Purpose of Clarifying the Truth about Dafa to Protect Our Individual Cultivation from Interruptions?

May 27, 2003

(Clearwisdom.net) There is a phenomenon that has confused me for a long time. It is that some fellow practitioners who were very active during the first couple of years after the persecution began to fall behind later. Although some are still cultivating, they are not at all making diligent progress. Also, though they claim that studying the Fa and improving xinxing are very important, they are not catching up with the Fa-rectification progress at all, but instead just seeking peace and balance in their small individual environments. From Master's teaching, I understand that there is nothing coincidental when we encounter problems; even a third party observing a problem should look inward to improve his own xinxing. Yet I could not figure out why I noticed this issue and how it applies to me.

Master talked again about the issue of fundamental attachments in the recent "Lecturing on and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference." One day after the lecture we were discussing this issue at our practice site, and everyone was looking inward to understand what had brought us into cultivation, and what has kept us cultivating today. During the discussion, I realized that Master's article "Towards Consummation," published three years ago, pointed out many basic problems I encountered, and had not paid attention to before, thinking they were not relevant to me. But now I realized, for example, that I could not completely eliminate my attachment of doing things, and that I always felt frustrated and impatient when encountering conflicts. These all involve issues of my cultivation. I mixed my cultivation with human notions of achieving a certain standard or good results through the best method. Once I realized this, all of a sudden I understood that the problems described above also involve issues in my own cultivation.

Some problems look simple, yet we encounter barriers on our cultivation path that cannot be surmounted for a long time. If we look inward with calm hearts, however, we find that our own cultivation is not pure in light of the requirements of Fa-rectification where those problematic issues are concerned; we have not achieved the realm of complete selflessness.

For example, there also is a standpoint for clarifying the truth. Is it to eliminate interference for our own cultivation? Is it to protect our own cultivation environment? Yes, but not exactly. From the standpoint of personal cultivation, the answer is yes, but from the standpoint of Fa-rectification, the answer is no. Since July 20, 1999, all Dafa disciples have entered the period of Fa-rectification, so the true answer should be "no."

Certainly clarifying the truth will help us to create a relatively peaceful cultivation environment in our families, workplaces, and communities. This is because the truth about Dafa saves people and eliminates evil factors in one's small environments. But as a Fa-rectification period Dafa disciple, the ultimate purpose of clarifying the truth is not to create an environment for us to study the Fa and freely practice the exercises. The purpose is to save people, eliminate evil, and minimize the damage caused by the old forces. If we truly understand this issue from a pure standpoint as required by Fa-rectification, we will do our best to clarify the truth, support fellow practitioners, and continuously improve our own xinxing. Choosing the pure standpoint required by the Fa was the reason why many Dafa disciples could do well through all these years and keep improving.

The above is my personal understanding, and for sharing purposes only.
