(Clearwisdom.net) In October 2000, under the direction of "610" Office [a bureau specifically created by the Chinese government to persecute Falun Gong. It has absolute power over each level of administration in the Party, as well as over the political and judiciary branches], the Xishanping Forced Labor Camp designated the first middle squad of the seventh squad to persecute Falun Gong practitioners. The guards selected some criminal inmates as "assistants." These inmates were drug addicts, dealers or had commited mutiple crimes. The police have been rewarded with promotions and cash for reforming Falun Gong practitioners and the "assistants" have also received material rewards and early releases. The police and "assistants" mutually colluded and brutally tortured practitioners. Between 2 and 10 inmates monitor and torture each practitioner in turn 24 hours a day.

Fifteen people are detained in one 20 square-meter cell. They have to do everything in this small space inluding eating and using the toilet. The beds are 0.8 meters wide(approximately 31 inches). Each "assistant" occupies one bed and two practitioners have to share a bed. The plastic toilet is right next to the bed. Sometimes they do not allow practitioners to use the toilet for the entire day. When a practitioner is called out of the cell, two "assistants" hold the practitioner's arms and sometimes two other inmates press down the practitioner's head while the practitioner walks.

On December 19, 2001, 48-year-old practitioner Cao Xuanlu refused to wear the prison uniform. More than 20 police, including the head of the squad Hu Hong, Political Instructor Tian Xing, the head of the middle squad Liu Hua, and education clerk Gao Ding ordered inmates Dang Ping, HeWeidong, Dan Ming, Xing Gongwen, and Xu Feng to brutally beat him until he lost consciousness. Cao woke up in the camp's hospital after the staff spent more than 60 hours trying to revive him.

On January 9, 2002, police education clerk Li Qiwei brought Cao Xuanlu back to the squad. The next day, Political Instructor Xiao ordered two "assistants" to drag Cao into the courtyard. Cao's body was covered in wounds; the blood and mud mixed together and covered his whole body. The following day in the hospital he had to have 13 stitches. It took over a day to revive him. A police officer announced that Cao's sentence would be extended two months because his "behavior is not good and he refuses to be reformed." Cao's sentence has been extended for a total of 11 months.

On December 19, 2001, 66-year-old practitioner Xue Junhe said " I oppose this persecution" when he was being tortured by the police. Police official Liu Hua immediately shouted, "We are not only going to persecute you, but also beat you violently. Drag him out!" Four "assistants" including Chen Shengyu and Xing Gongwen dragged Xue to the courtyard. As soon as Xue said "Falun Dafa is a righteous Fa", the "assistants" jammed Xue's shoes and socks into his mouth, badly injuring his mouth. Several criminals forcefully pinned him to the ground: two inmates stepped on his head, two squeezed his neck, four held his arms back, four pressed down his feet, and several people cruelly beat him and broke his right arm.

Some "assistants" urinate into the feeding container when they force-feed practitioners who are on hunger strikes. Xue Junhe's nostrils were full of blood from the brutal force-feeding.

On December 19, 2001, 43-year-old practitioner Zhang Shengquan refused to wear the prisoner's uniform. The police ordered "assistants" Chen Shengyu, Zhang Peng, Xing Gongwen, Wu Yin, and Xu Chengyong to beat him and severely injured his sternum (breastbone) and heart and caused internal hemorrhaging. Zhang was resuscitated in the camp's hospital. On January 16, 2002, they brought Zhang back to the squad before he had recovered. When Zhang Shengquan refuted the slander of Teacher and Falun Gong, they broke four of his teeth and one of his toes. Then the police forced Zhang to write a statement renouncing Falun Gong. When he refused, his torture included sleep deprivation for several days in a row and they did not allow him to use the toilet for an entire day.

On February 20, 2002, they tried to make 26-year-old practitioner Lu Jianjun read books that slander Falun Gong. Lu refused to read and pointed out the loopholes in the books. "Assistants" including Peng Daiyou, Lai Chaohui, Xu Lin, and Zhou Min beat him until his body was covered with wounds; his face became disfigured, and he lost vision in his left eye. On the same afternoon, some personnel from the judicial agencies were scheduled to visit this "advanced typical squad." The police immediately transferred the practitioners who had visible wounds, including Lu Jianjun, to a secret hiding place. Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Quanliang had had the toenails on his big toes ripped off and did not have any intact skin on his body except his face and hands. For the past two years, new tortures have added new wounds to the old ones. Everyday, his torture includes "hunger therapy." They give him less than one ounce of soup in the morning, less than three ounces of rice at noon and in the evening and on some days they give him nothing to eat at all.
