Persecution of Falun Dafa Practitioners by Lawless Officials at Shixi Township, Chenxi County of Hunan Province

(Clearwisdom.net) The lawless officials at Shixi Township, Chenxi County in Hunan Province exerted all their efforts implementing Jiang's policy of "Destroying the reputation of Falun Gong completely, exhausting Falun Gong practitioners financially, and eradicating Falun Gong." On July 17^th 2002, a group of officials led by Zhu Haiyuan (Party secretary of Shixi Township), Zuo Youcai (Member of People's Congress), Quan Gemin, Gong Daoli (Member of Political and Judiciary Committee) swarmed into the homes of Falun Dafa practitioner Liu Muoyu, Liu Shengqu, Xie Kaizheng, Liu Shengbu, Xie Wanmei, Liu Mingai, Zhang Deai, and Liu Yucun. These practitioners were immediately taken into custody.

The practitioners were taken and confined in a small conference room with several people guarding them. Other practitioners from Shixi Township were illegally arrested and sent to a detention center while on their way to Beijing for appeal.

During the confinement, Falun Dafa practitioners did not yield to the pressure from the officials. They started practicing the Falun Dafa exercises the very next day. Guards called for Gong Daoli and Quan Gemin. Gong and Quan used clubs to hit practitioners' arms and wrists. Later on, when practitioners started to recite poems from Hongyin. Gong and Quan again tried to stop them.

They also put Liu Shengqu in solitary confinement believing that he had led others in resisting the persecution. The Party secretary of Shixi Township, Zhu Haiyuan, filed a report to the County Police Department. At noon, the head of the police department, Zhu Shunan, arrived and decided to arrest Liu Shengqu and Liu Shengbu. Around 8:00 pm, Liu Shengqu and Liu Shengbu were taken to the police department, guarded by Zhu, Zuo, Quan, and Gong etc.

Besides the two practitioners being illegally detained by the police, six other practitioners continued to be detained at the township government. All eight practitioners are farmers. During the time of their detention, the critical harvest period (of the "early" rice) was in the middle of its cycle. After the harvest, the "late" rice required immediate planting. The six practitioners repeatedly requested to be released so that they could tend to their farms. But, they were only allowed to leave early in the morning and were told to return at night.

Since it took half-an-hour to walk home, these practitioners had to leave at three o'clock in the morning so that they would have enough time to work on the farm. They had to report back after dinner, around eight o'clock, every evening. In fact, the villains were trying to destroy practitioner's determination through physical hardship. At the same time, they were trying to "exhaust practitioners financially" by causing financial damage to their farms.

At night, these practitioners had to sleep on tables in the conference room without any bedding or mosquito netting. The cruel persons in charge allowed them to become food for the numerous mosquitoes. This situation lasted for ten days.

On the eighth day of this illegal detention, the township government declared that every practitioner had to pay a 1,200 Yuan fine without giving any reason. That morning, more than 50 township government officials took part in a motorcade of vehicles. They hung slanderous banners on the vehicles and broadcasted slanderous propaganda through their loud speakers. They drove up to the homes of the practitioners and gave them a one-hour deadline for handing in the fine. [Note: 500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China.]

Over the last three years of the persecution, the home of every practitioner in town was ransacked twice. Every practitioner was extorted of 1,200 Yuan. Three practitioners were illegally detained twice. Liu Shengqu was sent to a forced labor camp for one year. A female practitioner, Zhang Juxiang, and her mother-in-law, were fined over 10,000 Yuan by the "610 Office". Several dozen Falun Gong practitioners were sent to labor camps and sentenced illegally. [Note: The 610 Office is an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems.]

Another scoundrel, who was involved in the persecution in Chengxi County, former director of the police department, (later became secretary of Political and Judiciary Committee) Zhu Shunan, received karmic retribution for his wrongdoings and was relieved from all his duties last year.
