University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana: Practitioners Hold Press Conference to Expose Jiang's Persecution of their Alumnus, Dr. Charles Li (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) At 12:30 p.m. on June 9, 2003, Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference at the "Memorial Square" at the Student Center at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana (UIUC) to expose the Jiang regime's abuse and mistreatment of an American citizen, an alumnus of UIUC, Dr. Charles Li. Dr. Charles Li recently went on hunger strike for eight days so as to have his 109-page affidavit leave the prison. Dr. Charles Li described in his document the physical and mental abuse he has endured in detention in China. For instance, he was beaten, not allowed to sleep for three consecutive days and was handcuffed for 130 consecutive hours. He was also forced to watch videos that defame Falun Gong. Charles Li has been subjected to the same persecution that he risked his life to return to China to try to expose.

Two local TV stations covered the activity. When the reporter asked what the people at Urbana-Champaign could do for Dr. Charles Li, practitioners called upon the local people to make phone calls or write to President Bush and members of the US Congress to request the Chinese government to immediately release Dr. Li.
