A "Fortunate" Encounter

This is a true story that happened to me.

On the morning of January 25, 2003, I drove to a street corner in a town and suddenly saw a three-wheeler standing on the left side of the road. I turned to the right in a hurry, trying to go around the three-wheeler. Unexpectedly, due to my oversteering, I drove too far to the right, and people on both sidewalks shouted out, "You have hit and killed someone!" I stopped quickly, got out of my car, and saw an old man lying on the ground with his cap thrown more than two meters away. The front wheel of my car had rolled over his right ankle. Seeing this, I was scared and shaking. I felt an explosion in my head and almost fainted, "I have brought a disaster!" I stared at the old man and didn't know what to do. The onlookers said, "Why are you standing there, send him to the hospital for emergency treatment!" As if awakening from a dream, I went up to the old man. He waved his hand and said, "Nothing wrong with me, I don't want to go to hospital."

Squatting down, I asked the man, "Sir, let me carry you to the hospital for a physical examination." "I am serious, there is nothing wrong with me," saying this, he sat up and said, "I don't need you to carry me, I can walk." "No, you must be taken to a hospital." A young man pulled up a three-wheeler taxi, put the old man in it and we went to the hospital.

He was immediately examined by X-ray. The ankle was not hurt at all, with only a bruise above the ankle and a small scrape that bled just a little. Upon examination, there was no damage to his brain. Seeing the old man perfectly calm and collected, completely free from worry, the doctor asked him, "Sir, how old are you?" The old man answered, "Seventy-seven years old." "A miracle, a real miracle!" the doctors exclaimed. "You may still take some medicine to take good care of you."

"You see there is nothing wrong with me. Why should I take medicine?" Then he turned back to me and said, "Don't worry. Just be careful in the future when you are driving."

I went home to find many people already coming to ask about the incident. I told them the "miracle." All of them felt happy for my luck. However, when I calmed down to think about it, I felt heavy-hearted, worrying that it may not be so simple to get through it. Nowadays, many people try every possible way to gain money, even by cheating and creating troubles from nothing. Where can one find this kind of good thing and nice person in this world? The old man said he doesn't want money, but nobody can guarantee his family members won't want money. It probably was unavoidable to end up paying three or five thousand Yuan. My wife and I didn't sleep well that night.

The next day, I was in no mood to drive my car. Having taken two thousand Yuan and bought some eggs and fruit, my wife and I went to visit the old man, thinking of winning the initiative by apologizing to the old man and spending a little money to settle down the trouble.

Arriving at his house, I saw that it was full of people, including his children, grandchildren, relatives and friends. Having seen us, the old man was happy and stood up to welcome us, asking us to come in.

After we told him why we had come and tried to give him two thousand Yuan for his medical expenses, the smile on the old man's face disappeared. He said, "You young people are hard to handle. Look, am I not completely fine? Why should I need treatment? I can accept this fruit to show my appreciation for your kind heart. Other things should not be discussed. You two may stay here to have dinner with us and we will be friends from now on."

I looked at the warm-hearted old man and at the people sitting around. Seeing their cordial and amiable appearance, I was moved to tears. My wife and I bowed to the old man, his wife and their relatives and said, "Old gentleman, you really have good fortune!"

"It is you that really has good fortune!" said everyone to me with one voice.

"Me?" I was totally puzzled, looking at them in surprise.

"Do you know? He is a Falun Gong practitioner. You had met a good person, a Falun Gong practitioner. Isn't it you that really has such good fortune?"

"Falun Gong!" I looked up at the old man. "Oh, yes, Falun Gong is good! People who practice Falun Gong are good people. I really do have good fortune, I do! If I had met someone else other than this Falun Gong practitioner, wouldn't I be a wreck right now?"

We will not listen to the lies anymore. We know that Falun Gong is really good.
