College Lecturers in Heilongjiang Province Are Persecuted for Practicing Falun Gong

(Clearwisdom.net, June 14, 2003) Ms. Wang Yan is a lecturer in the School of Engineering, August First Land Reclamation University in Mishan City, Heilongjiang Province. On July 15, 2000, personnel from the "610 Office" arrested and detained her in the Mishan Number One Detention Center. Later, on October 23, 2000, she was transferred to Harbin's Wanjia Forced Labor Camp and was released on January 22, 2001. On January 2, 2002, "610 Office"* personnel arrested her again. The prison authorities brutalized her with beatings, force-feeding and other tortures. On March 2, 2003, Ms. Wang received a seven-year sentence and was sent to the Harbin Female Prison. Her employment with the University was terminated at the same time.

Mr. Wei Xiaodong is also a lecturer in the same school. On July 20, 2000, he was taken to the Mishan Number Two Detention Center. In November 2000, they transferred him to the Jixi Labor Camp. Mr. Wang was released on July 19, 2001. After his release, he was forced to live at various places away from home to avoid further persecution. On April 27, 2002, he was arrested again by persons from Jixi's "610 Office" for downloading articles from the Minghui net (Chinese version of Clearwisdom). Currently, he is being incarcerated at the Jixi Forced Labor Camp without a trial. According to inside sources, Wei Xiaodong suffers from TB brought on by the severe persecution. He is extremely thin and weak, and has also lost almost all his hair. The labor camp did not allow proper treatment, and the university fired him.

Mr. Rong Zhi is a lecturer in the School of Computer Science, August First Land Reclamation University. On July 20, 2000, he was illegally detained for 15 days and fined 6,000 Yuan**. In October 2002 he was again arrested in Jixi City. He remains detained to this day. He also lost his job with the university.

Several other students and professors were persecuted by being sent to a brainwashing class.
