Shanghai Dafa Practitioners Ma Yuguan and Li Wenyu Fall Victim to a New Round of Persecution in Songjiang

Not long after Dafa practitioner Li Wenyu from Songjiang of Shanghai was abducted recently, another practitioner, Ma Yuguan from Songjiang, was also arrested while shopping in the market. After the arrest, the police searched Ma Yuguan's home and confiscated his Dafa books, VCDs, VCD player, and his son's computer. The police also threatened his family members, telling them not to contact other practitioners. Mr. Ma usually looked after his wife, who suffers from hemiplegia. After his illegal arrest, his 7 year old grandchild and his 80 year old mother were left at home with his wife. Even though other practitioners volunteered to look after them the police refused to allow it, without giving any reason. The police also refused to allow Ma's family members to visit him in the detention center. Mr. Ma is a retiree of almost 60 years of age. Before he practiced Falun Dafa in 1996, he suffered from diabetes. After he began practicing Falun Dafa his illness went away. After the Dafa persecution began in July of 1999, Mr. Ma persisted in his cultivation. In July 2000, he practiced the Dafa exercises publicly in the park as a way to validate Dafa, and he was illegally detained for a month.

Li Wenyu began the practice in 1998, and in July 2000 he appealed in Beijing. One month later he was abducted by police after they illegally searched his home and found Dafa truth-clarification materials. He was illegally detained and tortured in the Dafeng Labor Camp for 2 years. Once, because he refused to sign a statement against Dafa, he was nearly beaten into a coma by criminals, who were instigated to do so by prison authorities. Later, due to his mind being unclear from repeated torture and long-term confinement, he wrote some statements renouncing his practice of Flaun Dafa, against his will. After Fa study and experience sharing with other practitioners, he realized his mistakes and publicly declared that all the statements he wrote during detention are no longer valid. In August of 2002, he was released from the detention center. He persisted in his cultivation and clarified the truth to his family and friends.

In May 2003, truth- clarifying materials were found in Songjiang, therefore local authorities began another round of intense persecution, and arrested Li Wenyu and Ma Yuguan.
