An Experience Clarifying the Facts to the Local Press

(Clearwisdom.net) Not long ago, a medium sized newspaper in the city where I live in Canada reprinted a number of articles from China vilifying Falun Gong. I immediately realized that I must clarify the facts to the reporter, but I did not know where to start, and who should be doing it? I thought of what Teacher said in "To All Students at the Nordic Fa Conference":

After discussing with fellow practitioners, I decided to perform the task by myself.

My command of the English language is limited. I applied for leave for a day from my supervisor. As I did not want to be misunderstood because of my difficulty in communicating in English, I decided to make the visit without a prior appointment with the reporter. That day, I prepared English materials to clarify the truth and a six minute English edition of the self-immolation video to take with me to the newspaper office.

On the way I sent forth righteous thoughts to eliminate any interference from other dimensions. When I arrived at the newspaper office and explained the purpose of my visit, the receptionist and all the workers at the office treated me with warmth. They quickly found a reporter to talk to me. After the normal salutations, I explained the purpose of my visit and requested that we view the video together (he gave me twenty minutes for the meeting). We went to the video projection room to view the self-immolation analysis video. After about three minutes I gave a sigh of relief and thought that the day had progressed well. At that juncture the machine stopped showing the video. I immediately realized that I must maintain righteous thoughts. Though the video show could not continue, I began to clarify the truth to the reporter. Finally, he mentioned that he had an assignment that would take him away for two weeks and that he could only write the article after that. I respectfully left the interview but did not accept the "arrangement".

Later, I received his email saying that they would come to our practice site to interview us on a weekday. They suddenly paid us a visit one day ahead of the appointed date. I was in another city to introduce the Fa to the public. Coincidentally, there was another practitioner who was also going to another city to introduce the Fa to the public. His command of the English language was better than mine. He decided not to go and stayed back to practice the exercises and had the opportunity to be interviewed. The interview concluded smoothly. Following that, the newspaper published a whole large page of the facts of Falun Gong.
