(Clearwisdom.net) I haven't done very well in cooperating to use the lawsuit against Jiang as a tool in clarifying the truth. I have discovered that the reason deep in my heart is that my understanding of the Fa is not in harmony with the current status of the Fa-rectification, and accordingly, I haven't paid enough attention to this issue.

At first, I really paid attention to the matter and I wanted to use the opportunity to clarify the truth together with fellow practitioners to save more sentient beings, to expose and eliminate the evil and to cooperate with other practitioners to improve together.

Therefore, months ago, I began to talk about the lawsuit while clarifying the truth. But I didn't meet with very much success. When I brought up the lawsuit against Jiang, some people would say, "With the various political movements over the years, such as fighting against the Rightists and the persecution of the student movement on Tiananmen Square on June 4, 1989, we are so disheartened that we have become apathetic. Who cares about righteousness and evil?" Some laid-off workers said, "We struggle to barely feed ourselves. It's far beyond us to care about those things." Some even said, "America is too far away from us. It has nothing to do with us." Apathy is so terrible, and so widespread, it seemed. I could understand their suppressed mindsets, but I felt very frustrated by their indifference.

As a practitioner, I often tell myself, "Do not be moved by another's mind when clarifying the truth. Do not be concerned much about their attitude." However, I felt hesitant when facing people's attitudes of indifference and apathy.

After studying "Lecturing on and Explaining the Fa at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference," I realized that we should not stress the result so much, but rather, the process while clarifying the truth, offering salvation to people and exposing the evil.

I used to tell others about various cultivation stories while clarifying the truth and the result was quite good. I thought that I could use this way to achieve the same result of saving people, and then not need to mention the lawsuit against Jiang. So I stopped bringing up the issue while clarifying the truth. In this way, I didn't understand the Fa in a perfect and harmonious way and, in fact, went to another extreme.

A fellow practitioner reminded me that although we should not focus on the result, the lawsuit presents a good opportunity to clarify the truth, and it should be made good use of. Missing such an opportunity, we may fall behind the Fa-rectification. It's not easy to create a good opportunity, especially this kind. Time is crucial. We should not miss any opportunity. Master said,

To achieve the same objective, we may separate ourselves to accomplish various tasks as particles. When something requires the power of the whole body, we should act together as a whole and create a form. When we should have formed an entity but failed, or only loosely formed, the effectiveness would be decreased.

The fellow practitioner's words inspired me. I felt I wasn't quite clear on this issue and hadn't paid enough attention to it. At the time, I also noticed that there had been fewer articles about bringing Jiang to justice on the Clearwisdom website. As Dafa practitioners, if we are not concerned with this issue ourselves, how can we expect the world's people to care about it? Although people ultimately choose their own course and position themselves, the evils' lies, the maze of the human world and many other factors will interfere with them and may misdirect their decision. We should hold compassion in our hearts and help them clear away the evil interference. Through clarifying the truth, we can help them find their clear-minded side that knows the truth so they can make their choice after learning the facts. We cannot be too attached to any particular result. What they choose eventually is their own business. However, we have our responsibility during the process.

People value the principles of humanity. America is a country that values human rights. It is arranged to act in the role of international police in history and is a decisive and significant country. If America cannot make a right choice, it will affect many other countries.

The head of evils and its accomplices in the Chinese government know the importance of this lawsuit. The evil decayed ghosts in other dimensions know it as well. They all try very hard to protect the head of evils. How can we not pay attention to this lawsuit?

I think we should do our best to participate to whatever extent is possible, such as sending righteous thoughts and talking about the lawsuit and bringing Jiang to justice while clarifying the truth. We may or may not have opportunities to participate directly, but the most important aspect is how much our hearts focus on it. We should care about the lawsuit and be of one mind, do our best to participate, remind and help each other, cooperate well with each other, form an indestructible entity, and act as one body. The closer we are as an entity, the fewer loopholes we have, and the more powerful we are.

We can start ourselves by writing and publishing articles on Clearwisdom and in other public media to clarify the truth and to expose the crimes committed by Jiang (for example, the persecution and genocide of Falun Gong, using public funds and all kinds of bait to induce people to go against their conscience and righteousness.). Through our effort, we can bring more public attention to the issue and bring more people to talk about the case so as to form a righteous field. Eventually, the evils will lose the field that their lives depend on.

I haven't done very well in cooperating to use the lawsuit against the head of evils as a tool in clarifying the truth. I hope other fellow practitioners will share their experiences on this issue to inspire us together. Thank you.

On October 18, 2002, individual plaintiffs filed a class action lawsuit in United States District Court of the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division against Jiang Zemin, formerly the dictator of China, and against the Falun Gong Control Office ("Office 610"). The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the Falun Gong practitioners in China and in the United States. For specific causes of action. Pleaded in the complaint are torture and genocide. Also included in the charges is the conspiracy to commit violations of civil rights within the jurisdiction of the U.S.

Ever since the lawsuit was filed, the Jiang's defense has placed tremendous pressure on the U.S. government. They are trying to coerce the U.S. government into interfering with the U.S. legal system so that the lawsuit is dismissed on the grounds that Jiang is a head of state and, as such, possesses diplomatic immunity. It is important to note that Jiang, since last March, is no longer head of state. Additionally, war criminals like Yugoslavia's Milosevik were held responsible by international law for their deeds of genocide notwithstanding their official status.

Jiang's gang of political scoundrels banned Falun Gong on July 20, 1999. Over the past four years, they have carried out a most vicious persecution, including willful imprisonment, extortion, brainwashing, brutal torture, maltreatment in psychiatric hospitals, rape and even murder.

The regime headed by Jiang and his successors is full of corruption and degradation. It has brought about enormous harm to the Chinese people. Such a regime brings only shame to China and the Chinese people, and they absolutely cannot represent China in the same way that Hitler's gang of Nazis could not represent Germany.

The lawsuit launched by Falun Gong practitioners and Friends of Falun Gong (FoFG) in the United States against Jiang is an act of upholding the morality and conscience of humanity, something that the kind, just people and governments of the world will identify with and support. I urge the U.S. government and people to support the Falun Gong practitioners and help end this genocide in China by bringing Jiang Zemin and his gang to justice.

This would assure us that the founding principles of freedom and human rights of the United States are continually valued and cherished.

On behalf of Friends of Falun Gong USA, I am writing regarding Dr. Charles Li, an American who is imprisoned in China. Dr. Li is now into his seventh day of a hunger strike to protest his unjust treatment and imprisonment by the Chinese government.

Our previously expressed concerns that Dr. Li will be severely mistreated now seem quite real. More than 10% of all deaths of Falun Gong practitioners in Chinese custody have resulted from force-feeding.

As you may know Dr. Charles Li was imprisoned in China after being ushered through a "show trial" in April for allegedly "preparing" to tap into Chinese state-run T.V. and broadcast programs exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in China. Dr. Li is a brave man, incarcerated purely because of his practice of Falun Gong, and because he would not accept the lies and deception perpetrated on the Chinese people by Jiang Zemin.

This former head of the Chinese government banned the practice of Falun Gong in July 1999, and since that time, the State Department, various human rights organizations, and the unanimous House of Representatives have documented the brutal nature of the crackdown. The egregious behavior of this regime and the intensity of the persecution bear no relation to a peaceful system that has provided superior physical and mental health to millions of its adherents.

Hundreds of thousands of innocent people have been imprisoned and tortured and hundreds, if not thousands, have been murdered, affecting millions more who are part of their lives. To have such a large proportion of the Chinese population experience genocide without the leader of the free world speaking up publicly and forcefully will be a blemish on the legacy of your presidency.

Since Jiang banned the practice of Falun Gong in July 1999, the State Department, various human rights organizations, and the unanimous House of Representatives have all condemned the brutal nature of the crackdown on an unarmed and peaceful people. Now that Jiang has stepped down as head of state, he is subject to the consequences of violating international human rights law, and as such faces a civil suit in the United States for genocide and crimes against humanity. The circumstances surrounding Dr. Li's arrest and subsequent torture are but one more example of this.

Mr. President, we urge you to please speak up in defense of the human rights of those people who practice Falun Gong in China, and Dr. Li in particular. Further, we ask that you instruct the Department of Justice to withdraw its attempts to dismiss the case against Jiang. By intervening on his behalf, the United States is implicitly supporting Jiang and his brutal dictatorship, and this is counter to every principle Americans have defended with their lives.

Dozens of Falun Gong practitioners took over the sidewalk outside of the Chinese [Consulate] in Vancouver today to stage a hunger strike. They are protesting the imprisonment of an American Falun Gong practitioner in China.

[Practiitoner] "We believe that this persecution is not only a persecution of innocent people, but a persecution of the nature of the universe, a persecution of you and me."

They've gathered to meditate and fast for 24 hours to support the American Dr. Charles Li who has been in jail since January. Protesters hope the event will bring attention to his plight. [Practitioner] "... give a voice to the people who have no voice, and to support Charles Li as much as we can, who has completely denied access to outside information."

Falun Gong practices meditation and exercises that were outlawed in China four years ago.

(Clearwisdom.net) On June 1^st 2003 Vancouver Falun Gong practitioners held a 24-hour hunger strike appeal in front of the Chinese Consulate, requesting the Chinese government to release American Citizen Charles Li immediately and to bring Jiang to justice for his persecution and genocide of Falun Gong practitioners.

When they heard the news that Dr. Charles Li went on hunger strike to protest the illegal detention and persecution, Vancouver Falun Gong practitioners decided to send forth righteous thoughts in front of the Chinese Consulate from 9am June 1^st to 9am June 2^nd and held a 24-hour hunger strike to support Charles Li and request the Chinese government to release Charles Li immediately. They also called for a global public trial of Jiang for his crime of genocide against Falun Gong practitioners in China.

The illegal imprisonment of Charles Li is the extension of persecution of Falun Gong to overseas Falun Gong practitioners. It is a clear violation of human rights justice. If the international community can do nothing to stop the Chinese regime from arbitrarily detaining and persecuting an innocent American citizen, the outcome will be very serious.

The practitioners' action was to remind the people of the world to be aware of the genocidal crimes Jiang's regime is committing in China. They also hope more people will join the effort to save Dr. Charles Li and stop the violence from spreading and escalating.

(Clearwisdom.net) On June 1, Falun Gong practitioners from the greater New York area gathered in front of the Chinese consulate in New York to urgently call upon people in all walks of life to help rescue Dr. Charles Li.

Dr. Charles Li was arrested at Guangzhou airport in January when he returned home to visit his family and was imprisoned in China after being ushered through a "show trial" in March for allegedly "preparing" to tap into Chinese state-run T.V. and broadcast programs exposing the persecution of Falun Gong in China. To protest his illegal detention by the Chinese regime, the persecution of Falun Gong in general, and the unlawful treatment he has received from prison guards and officials, and the fact that Nanjing Prison officials removed the 8 pages from an affidavit he prepared that contained specifics of his request to become a plaintiff in the class-action lawsuit against former Chinese leader, Jiang Zemin, Dr. Li initiated the hunger strike on May 27. A U.S. official said that the Chinese government is "completely responsible" for Dr. Li's well-being.

Practitioners appealed in light rains in front of New York's Chinese consulate. A press conference was held at 1pm. A representative of the practitioners pointed out, "The U.S. government and the American people are watching this case closely and seriously and it is an undisputed fact that many Falun Gong practitioners have been killed as a result of force feeding while on hunger strikes in Chinese prisons and labor camps.

Many of the pedestrians and drivers passing the areas expressed concerns on the matter.

Charles Li has been on hunger strike since May 27. Practitioners around the world have initiated an urgent appeal to rescue Charles Li and persecuted Falun Gong practitioners, and to bring Jiang to justice.

(Clearwisdom.net) On May 31 from 2 to 4 pm, practitioners gathered in front of the Chinese consulate in Los Angeles to support US citizen Charles Li who is illegally jailed in China.

American citizen and Falun Gong practitioner Dr. Charles Li, who is being held in a Chinese prison, began a hunger strike on May 27 to peacefully protest severe human rights violations. Houston Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference in front of the Chinese consulate on June 2 from 12am to 1 pm urgently calling for help rescuing Charles Li. Houston News TV and NTD TV attended the press conference and interviewed practitioners.

Officials at the Nanjing Prison where Dr. Li is being held have denied him all contact with his fiancée, Ms. Yeong-ching Foo. Chinese officials have also refused to allow U.S. consulate representatives to visit him. While imprisoned, Dr. Li wrote a 96 page document to the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai. According to a U.S. consulate official, however, Nanjing Prison officials removed 8 pages out of the document that contained specific information regarding Dr. Li's request to become a plaintiff in the class-action lawsuit against former Chinese leader, Jiang Zemin, which was filed in U.S. District Court in October, 2002.

At the press conference, Houston 24 Hour News TV Station and NTD TV interviewed practitioners. Practitioners told the reporters the story of Charles Li's illegal arrest and the crimes Jiang's regime has committed in its brutal persecution of Falun Gong.

(Clearwisdom.net) Sunday June 1, 2003 was the fifth day of Charles Li's hunger strike protest. Charles Li is an American Citizen and Falun Gong practitioner, who was illegally imprisoned in China. To rescue him, greater Philadelphia area Falun Gong practitioners held a press conference at 1:30pm at a famous tourism site, the Liberty Bell. Practitioners demanded the Chinese government to release Charles Li immediately, and to release Ms. Yang Jinfang, the elder sister of Dr. Yang Jingduan (from Jefferson Hospital), and thousands of other practitioners being illegally detained.

Charles Li, who was sentenced to three years imprisonment after a show trial, is on a hunger strike. Charles protests for three points:

The visitors were very surprised that Chinese government illegally imprisoned an American doctor. Some of them talked to our practitioners for a long time and wanted to learn the exercises. Some stated that they would write to the President Bush and the State Department asking the government to help rescue Charles Li.

In October 2002, during Jiang's visit to America, a group of Falun Gong practitioners sued him, and the "610 office" under his lead, for crimes of genocide, torture and crimes against humanity. Every Falun Gong practitioner can be a plaintiff to this lawsuit and bring this criminal of history to justice. The eight pages of materials removed from Charles' affidavit was about suing Jiang and related officials. The confiscation of the materials again showed that Jiang's Regime was trying all means to interfere with this lawsuit, but the scales of justice cannot be swayed by Jiang's Regime. The criminals will be brought to justice in the end.

(Clearwisdom.net) On June 2, a Bring Jiang to Justice and Free Charles Li Photo Exhibition was held in front of Auckland city hall, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

San Francisco Bay area Falun Gong practitioners from Auckland and San Jose participated in the photo exhibition. The exhibition was comprised of three parts: Part one Falun Dafa Hao; Part 2 Bring Jiang to Justice; Part 3 Strongly demand release of Charles Li. The photo exhibition attracted many people. From time to time praises of Falun Dafa by visitors were heard. Many people expressed their indignation toward the evil persecution.

Two westerners greeted practitioners in Chinese. One said, "I just could not figure out why Jiang would persecute good people like you." A practitioner said, "He was so afraid that if there were more good people that follow truth compassion and tolerance, it will threaten him." They said, "Is he still human?! ...." They happily signed their names on the signature boards. Practitioners gave them information on bringing Jiang to justice before they left.

(Clearwisdom.net) From 9am to 5 pm June 1 2003, Toronto Falun Gong practitioners went on hunger strike in front of the Chinese Consulate demanding the immediate release of Charles Li, a Falun Gong practitioner and American doctor who has been on hunger strike in a Chinese prison for five days. On the same day, practitioners throughout Canada started hunger strike protests in front of the Chinese Embassy and Consulates in Canada.

Confirmed by Voice Of America, American citizen Charles Li, who was (illegally) sentenced to three years imprisonment by the Chinese government, went on hunger strike on May 27^th in Nanjing Prison.

Doctor and practitioner Ms. Zhu Dan said, "Charles is a doctor and he knows the severe outcomes of hunger strike. Many organs are exhausted after a hunger strike and the changes can be irreversible. If he was not persecuted so badly by the Chinese government, he would not choose this way to protest."

Mrs. Shou, who is in her 80's, said that she came to the Consulate to participate in the hunger strike protest this morning. She was very clear about the cruel persecution of Chinese practitioners in Mainland China. The persecution has extended to foreign countries. The Falun Gong issue is no longer just a China issue. It is a global issue. The Chinese government uses fabricated charges to imprison foreign citizens. We cannot allow this to continue.

Doctor Charles Li was arrested immediately upon his arrival at Guangzhou airport on January 22 2003. On March 21, after a one-day show trial, he was sentenced to three years and jailed in Nanjing Prison. In the prison, he wrote 94 pages of material to give to the American Consul in Shanghai. But the prison withheld 8 pages he had written related to his wanting to become party to the lawsuit against Jiang and others for the inhumane treatment he has received.

Nanjing Prison has forbidden all communications between Dr. Li and his fiancée Yongqing Foo, and even used the prison locale's high SARS infection rate as an excuse to reject the American Consul's request to visit him.

(Clearwisdom.net) The annual Africa Day Celebration was held in the famous southern German city of Freiburg. Many visitors gathered in the city from different places. We started a 4-week signature collection campaign themed "Free Xiong Wei and Our Family and Friends in China." It is the first signature collection effort we have initiated with the theme of rescuing our family members.

Many people expressed their desire to support us once they saw the photo exhibit and heard practitioners' explanation. Some said, "We must help." A teacher from a language school said she would discuss with Chinese students more the situation of the persecution of Falun Gong in her class.

We will deliver the signatures to International Human Rights Organizations in Germany and will help to convey the German people's wishes to their government.

(Clearwisdom.net) Four-year-old Wang Shujie lived in Nanmiaoshan Three Village, Miaoshan Town, Laiwu City, Shandong Province. During the evil's brutal persecution against Dafa, young Shujie suffered inhuman damage to her physical and mental health, like hundreds of thousands of other children of persecuted Dafa practitioners. On July 15, 2002, young Shujie died after being forced to live under trepidation and persecution for two years. Following are the particulars.

On July 19, 2000, a group of police officers broke into Shujie Uncle's home and abducted all adults in the house in front of Shujie. On December 3, 2000, the police took Shujie's father and Shujie to the Guansi Police Station for interrogation. Before Shujie's father even opened his mouth, the officer used a book to slap his face. Shujie immediately passed out from shock and fear. After she waked up, she had a fever and sweated. She shook her head from side to side due to severe pain in her head. She was antsy and uneasy and banged her head against the wall. After she returned home, she was in lethargic sleep for a whole day. The police went to Shujie's home over and over again to arrest her family members. When Shujie's father was arrested and was not home, Shujie missed her father very much, and she held the picture taken with her father in her arms and cried badly.

In the evening of August 14, 2001, Li, the chief and also the political chief of the Miaoshan Police Station, with the police stick in his hand, went to Shujie's home again to arrest people. Shujie was awakened after having fallen asleep minutes before and shouted, "Dad, Mom, I won't let you go!"

August 15 [from the lunar calendar] is a Chinese festival when families reunite, yet Shujie's family was forced to leave home to avoid illegal arrest. Shujie's health was greatly damaged from mental shocks over and over again, and from living in fear for a long time. Her health was devastated and she had difficulty eating.

At dawn on February 1, 2002, nearly 20 police officers surrounded Shujie's home. They broke inside in an attempt to kidnap Shujie's father to a brainwashing class. Shujie was so scared she wet her bed. The police simply ignored her and took away Shujie's father and sent him to a brainwashing class. Shujie cried loudly.

On February 14, 2002, Shujie and her aunt went to the brainwashing class to visit her father. When she returned, Shujie said to her mother, "Dad said today is my birthday, but he can't be with me." Mother looked at the emaciated child and shed tears. Shujie was only skin and bones and she hardly grew during the two years of persecution. She had hard time to sleep and eat. Her parents had to take her to a hospital for help.

On July 11, 2002, Shujie's parents took her to the prestigious Qilu Hospital. Shujie was found to have a benign fluid bubble on her brain and needed surgery. After the operation, Shujie began convulsing and her body temperature reached 107.6 ⁰F. Four days later, Shujie stopped breathing and died.

If this were not the era of persecution, young Shujie would not leave us so early. Criminal Jiang Zemin and the "610 Office" will be eventually brought to the public trial of law, human conscience and morality.

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Liu Yuxiang, female, 56 years old, lived in Yakeshi City, Hulunbeier, Inner Mongolia. On May 16, 2003 she was arrested and sent to a detention center for distributing Dafa truth clarification literature. She held a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention. The police didn't allow her family to visit her. Ten days later, Liu Yuxiang died.

Police officers from the Jiangshe Police Station in Yakeshi City arrested Liu Yuxiang during the afternoon of May 16, 2003 as she distributed truth clarification literature to expose Jiang's group's persecution of Falun Gong. She was later sent to a detention center. She had been holding a hunger strike to protest the illegal detention. The police didn't allow her family to visit. On May 26, Liu Yuxiang was on the verge of death and was sent to the city hospital. She died around 8:45 p.m. the same day (May 26). At the time of her death, her front teeth had turned black and her mouth was slightly open, which may have been caused by brutal force-feeding. Afterwards, the police blocked this information and threatened her family. The police want to avoid responsibility for their crime.

After hearing the news about Charles Li being abused by Chinese officials, some contact people in Canada had a short conference call. Master has mentioned that the US is first in doing very well. I see this in that American practitioners have been able to handle such enormous things as suing Jiang, which reflects the practitioners overall, not just individuals. However, there are some potentially big problems too that have not been resolved, soI will try to point them out frankly because I feel the time is really critical and we have to recognize the problems, face them and improve. Please don't take offense as this is an effort to be responsible.

The situation is in a crisis overall, and in the US most obviously. Charles is enduring enormously and he relies on us to be rescued. At the same time, the Chicago legal case is in a most critical time as well. These are most important issues.

1. There is an urgent need for more practitioners to help out in clarifying the truth and other activities in Chicago, but fellow practitioners from other areas have not done enough to help out the situation in Chicago.

2. A US citizen is in a very critical situation. However, it was in Canada that practitioners organized a nation-wide hunger strike for Charles this weekend in front of all the Chinese consulates/embassies, while I don't see the same large scale public events happening at this critical time in the US--where Charles is from.

3. We seem scattered. Even articles on Clearwisdom are not connecting the Jiang case with Charles' case adequately. We cannot treat all incidents as isolated ones, otherwise we will not be able to cover all of them well.

4. Practitioners must be able to see the most important battle in front of them and cannot be busy with "their" things or with other "important" things to too great an extent. The importance of the legal case against Jiang in the US cannot be equated with anything else. Charles' situation is directly related to this and it is a big wake up call. This must be addressed by one body of practitioners direcly, not by "other" practitioners. What are you busy doing?

In our discussion, we felt that if US practitioners come out strongly as one body and determinedly exposed the case against the head of the evil in this opportunity with Charles Li and draw more and more attention to it, neither the Chinese nor the US governments would be able to bear it.

The current situation is that of a decisive battle. We can't miss this or not be fully clear on its importance and what is required of us.

Relatively, Canada has a lot of shortcomings in different areas, and there are things we have not done as well. However, we have managed to work together well as one body, as I recall Master mentioning in Vancouver. For example, with the case of Zhang Kunlun, practitioners across the country used this as an opportunity to continuously clarify the truth, and the wealth of media attenion really produced a rigtheous pressure on the government and the evil, and he was released. We did not focus only on the specifics of Professor Zhang's case, we widely used this to clarify the facts about the persecution, and major media had front page news for days on end with different practitioners' persecution stories and information about the persecution on the whole, not only professor Zhang.

Regarding the relationship between Charles and the lawsuit, please consider this: With the case of Wang Yuzhi, her family was abducted by the evil after she spoke out about the abuses she faced. Practitioners in Ottawa were unsure whether to take their valuable time when very busy to hold a press conference on Parliament Hill that was so focused on non-practitioners (her family members were non-practitioners). Then practitioners enlightened that we could use this to target the head of the evil. A press conference was held from the angle of exposing Jiang's fear of having his crimes exposed, and exposing all the crimes he is responsible for and how he is responsible for Wang Yuzhi's innocent family. In just a couple of days, the family members were released.

To be frank, we feel that if something like this was happening in Canada, half of the Canadian practitioners would already be gathered together on Parliament Hill in Ottawa, sitting on the lawn appealing. While there are so many remarkable things US practitioners do, there seems to be something lacking in terms of coming together and confronting critical and urgent things as one body. This may be one reason that the situation with Charles continues like this, and it may also have a big impact in the legal case.

At the same time, the US legal case is not an issue only for US practitioners. We all need to treat it as our own issue and actively take part and recognize it as a priority.

Recently, I didn't do a good job cooperating with fellow practitioners in Fa-rectification work. Although things have been going very well with validating the Fa, we couldn't work smoothly with each other to reach a common understanding. Sometimes, we even found it hard to communicate with each other. It seems that we all held grudges against each other. Whenever someone proposed a way to do something, others would object to it. Whenever someone did something, others would say it was wrong to do it that way. Because we didn't cooperate with each other, we couldn't exert more power as one body. The evil then took advantage of us. The problem was even more pronounced among veteran practitioners. Every veteran practitioner had his or her own understandings of the Fa. Therefore, it was even more difficult for veteran practitioners to cooperate with each other. Some of them have even stopped communicating with each other.

In his recent Fa lectures, my understanding is that Teacher has repeatedly expounded on the importance of the issue of cooperation among practitioners. Teacher stated in "Explaining the Fa During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference"

As Teacher's disciples, how can we better cooperate with each other as a whole? I was very worried about this issue and I felt very guilty about not doing a good job of working with other practitioners. Meanwhile, I felt anxious and lonely because I didn't know how to handle this problem. I tried very hard to look inside in order to dig out my attachments so that I could find out the root causes to this problem. We have been cultivating for a long time, how come we still act like that? What was the root cause?

Through Fa-study and help from Teacher's hints, I came to realize that we need to cultivate "a compassion that can melt steel" (From Explaining the Fa During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference). We need to assimilate to the all-encompassing and indestructible Fa principles of the cosmos.

I became more relaxed, more comfortable, more tolerant, and more peaceful after I enlightened to the above Fa principle. I started to actively communicate with other practitioners. One day, a veteran practitioner and I sat down and had a very nice talk. First, I apologized to her about the things that I didn't do well with, especially my problems in coordinating with fellow practitioners. I also shared my understandings of my problems. She also talked about her shortcomings. It was a very open sharing. We feel we both learned a lot from each other and we feel we were sharing from the bottom of our hearts. We reached a common understanding that we need to think about how to better cooperate with each other and how to walk the final steps well in our cultivation paths.

Actually, when we didn't do a good job cooperating and coordinating with each other, it posed a loss to us and a loss to the Fa. It is something that made the evil happy and something that Teacher doesn't want.

Before, when we shared experiences or worked with each other, we overemphasized our personal understandings, which created a barrier for cooperation and coordination. This is because even when those personal understandings are correct, there are too many individual elements within them when seen from the overall situation. When we overemphasized personal understandings, we didn't assimilate to the Fa at different levels. We didn't truly understand the Fa's requirements on our fellow practitioners at different levels. We weren't tolerant towards fellow practitioners. Sometimes, we were jealous of those practitioners who did well. Sometimes, we would inappropriately criticize those practitioners who didn't do very well. When we talked about our personal achievements during our own cultivation, we might be aggressive, competitive, and showing off. Under the complex situation in China, there was also the attachment of "self-protection" involved when some practitioners didn't get enlightened to some Fa principles while being unwilling to listen to others at the same time. So they stopped communicating with other practitioners. Besides, the disparities among practitioners have increased towards the end. Therefore, practitioners have even further distant understandings of the Fa. These are the reasons why we were unable to cooperate and coordinate with each other.

Generally speaking, omissions would occur in our working together when we didn't get rid of the notion of self. The evil would then take advantage of us and cause losses. The evil also tries to stir up conflicts among practitioners to separate us. For example, when two practitioners can't reach a common understanding, they thought of communicating with each other to resolve the problem. However, they didn't do this whole-heartedly based on the Fa. So their calls to each other couldn't get through. Or they couldn't find each other. Then they might think the other practitioner was not willing to pick up the phone and was holding grudges against them. Or they might think it was a hint from the Teacher that they shouldn't talk at that time. All these would make the conflicts worse until eventually they would go different ways and be unwilling to cooperate with each other any more.

We need to directly look at this problem from the Fa because it is a requirement of the Fa and of Teacher and so we can be truly responsible for the Fa, for fellow practitioners and for ourselves. It is what we need to do during our cultivation. It is a higher requirement on practitioners. It is very important for us to cooperate and coordinate with each other in order to cultivate ourselves well.

I came to realize that in order to better coordinate with each other, we need to first get rid of the notion of self. This is because it directly relates to the basis of our standpoint when viewing things. In order to better coordinate with each other, we need to consider things from the perspective of the overall situation, the group, and other people instead of from the perspective of our personal understandings, even when our personal understanding is correct. Each one of us should willingly make up for the shortcomings of other practitioners' and of the whole situation. Meanwhile, when we get rid of the notion of self, we won't try to make others accept our personal opinions, which is a manifestation of our compassion and which will make it easier for others to listen to us. Then we will be able to feel that we are sincerely helping each other. So we need to base things on the Fa to dig out our shortcomings. We should get rid of the notion of self and start to think about what we should do to better cooperate with fellow practitioners and with the overall situation. We need to find out the things that we didn't do well regarding the issue of cooperation and coordination among us instead of intentionally or unintentionally trying to make others respect us and listen to us so they can cooperate with us. We should not view things from the standpoint of self. We should not take ourselves as the center to try to change others instead of ourselves. That is because being unwilling to change ourselves is an element that doesn't accord with the Fa. It is a notion that comes from the old degenerated cosmos.

What should we do when the disparities are increasing? My personal understanding is that we need to recognize that we have a common understanding of the Fa. If we deviate from the Fa or don't look at things from the Fa, we are wrong. However, if we are all understanding the Fa from the Fa, then we need to be tolerant towards each other since the differences in our understandings are simply because we are at different levels. We need to assimilate to the Fa at different levels. When we have different understandings, we should not criticize each other and we should not draw a conclusion about whether others' understandings are right or wrong. We can ask questions to find out why they have such an understanding, why they do such things, and whether it is an understanding from the Fa. We need to make judgments based on the Fa. When we don't have a strong personal opinion, we will have an open mind, which will create a positive field for mutual understanding. Of course, if we can't immediately understand others, we don't need to get stuck in trying to understand others' positions. The main purpose of communication is to free ourselves, to get rid of the notion of self, and to keep an open heart for different understandings. We should be compassionate towards each other during this process.

Some of the practitioners pursued so-called high levels. They thought the higher the level is, the better it is. This understanding of "levels" would sometimes cause problems in our cooperation and coordination. The Fa created different levels within the cosmos. It created different living environments for different living beings. There is the issue of being at different levels. However, for Falun Dafa practitioners, although we are at different levels, we are all living beings directly created by the Fa for the purpose of rectifying the Fa. We will be the manifestations of the Fa at different levels and realms. For practitioners, we are "returning to our homes." We are returning to wherever Teacher arranged us to be. No matter where we go, that is the best place for each one of us.

Finally, let's remember what Teacher has told us in Explaining the Fa During the 2003 Lantern Festival at the U.S. West Fa Conference. Teacher said,

The above is my personal understandings. Please correct me if I said anything inappropriate.

After reading Master's lecture at the Metropolitan New York Fa Conference, I have had many changes: I have corrected my irregular living habits, become more serious toward Dafa, learned to better appreciate Master's benevolence, and have been more responsible to myself. I have the following experiences to share:

Lately we have modified our morning practice schedule by adding experience sharing after the one-hour exercise and one-hour Fa-study that we normally do. We use the time for experience sharing to discuss difficult issues that one faces in cultivation. In the past, we came to the practice site to exercise and study Fa for the purpose of exercise and studying Fa. Now we have converted the practice site into a truly peaceful cultivation environment, one in which one examines, corrects and elevates oneself with high standards.

There is a practitioner at our site who was anxious because he could not learn the deeper meanings of the Fa despite having studied it for a long time. He was interfered with by his preconceived notions and accordingly, he misinterpreted the "belief" that Master talked about. We shared our opinions and pointed out to him how he has mixed his thoughts with notions of ordinary people. This resolved his trouble quickly.

His change gave me a shock. Comparing myself, I found that actually many of us have difficulties in studying Fa as well. All of us more or less unknowingly use our own notions to interpret Master's words. After this experience, I tried to use a very pure heart to study the Fa. I find that I have brand new understandings now. When I study the Fa again, I do not have the feeling that, "I have read this before and understand it already." I feel that the inner meanings of the Fa are too deep to measure. I truly feel that my understanding now is only an understanding at this level and I will have a deeper understanding when my xinxing (mind nature) is elevated, and my mindset becomes even purer in the future.

I suddenly discovered that the inner meaning contained in Zhuan Falun is truly boundless. It all depends on how pure your heart is. If we can truly keep a pure mindset in studying Fa, we would be able to distinguish the old forces' interferences easier, our Fa-rectification work would better approach the standards Master requires of us, and losses we encounter would be much reduced. This is because the old forces can never reach the purity of Dafa. The more we study the Fa the purer our minds and thoughts will be. We will be more assimilated with Dafa, and be more capable of distinguishing the righteous from evil.

Afterwards in my experience sharing with fellow practitioners about Fa-study, we realized that we should not keep any pre-conceived notions about Fa-study, otherwise we will misunderstand things. A practitioner asked, "How can we purify our heart in studying the Fa?" After some discussions, describing her recent changes in Fa-study and cultivation, another practitioner said that "mindset" is very important. It is a critical issue whether we are looking for deficiencies in others, or we purely want to change ourselves and purify ourselves? With a clear understanding, it is easy for us to find the deficiencies in our xinxing. We naturally will want to change ourselves to reach a purer standard in our Fa study.

Often we see Fa's requirements on us when studying the Fa, but feel in our minds that it is too hard to achieve them. For example, in some serious disputes with a fellow practitioner, I could hardly stand his actions. Although I knew clearly in my mind what Dafa requirements are, I could not follow them and often regretted it deeply afterwards. Now I gradually understand, whenever I encounter this situation, I should not feel discouraged. If I can do that much today, I will do that much today. But I shall never forget the standards that Dafa sets for me, and cannot relax by lowering the standards for myself. I will do it bit by bit, then the impossible will become possible. The important thing is that we cannot forget the standards that we saw in studying the Fa, so that we can keep elevating ourselves. When we reach a standard, new meanings of Dafa will manifest themselves to us. This way we can keep elevating ourselves.

Another issue is that one often finds that one's elevation in cultivation happens in bursts, not being able to maintain it in a good state. An example is that one can only be persistent in doing exercises for a few days or weeks. After some experience sharing, we found that when we change ourselves, aside from our xinxing, we need to pay attention to interferences from our environment as well. For example, in the past I was not able to get up early to do Dafa exercises, but I got interrupted easily if I choose to do exercises at other times. Afterwards I realized that in order to reach the standard, I need to rectify everything, including my daily routines and behaviors such as my speech and conduct. I patiently studied and found a proper set of daily routines that suits my situations and can facilitate me in carrying out the three things I need to do everyday. It is like in an environment where Fa has been rectified, in which everything, including the environment, is rectified. The rectified environment in turn helps strengthen the righteous thoughts and rectify the incorrect.

My own understanding is that I need to get up early and do the exercises early, not giving any excuse to my laziness. When I insist to do the exercises everyday, I am automatically strengthening my righteous thoughts and ridding myself of my laziness. Exercises transform my innate body and let my spirit go through cycles of relaxing and strengthening, just as a person does not exercise himself but Fa exercises him. When a person does the exercises, he is strengthening and harmonizing everything. Before our body of flesh is transformed completely into high-energy substance, we need to take good care of it, because it is a safeguard for us for spreading the truth and doing Fa-rectification work, and because in our cultivation, we "want the innate body as well as the Cultivated Infant" (Zhuan Falun.).

These are the experiences in my recent cultivation and Fa study. I would appreciate your comments very much.

(Clearwisdom.net) I started to practice Falun Dafa in March 1999. Before that, I suffered from congenital right lower limb angioma (a blood vessel tumor), and an operation in the hospital did not cure it. Two months after I started to practice, the disease disappeared completely. Seeing the miracle that happened to me, my mother and my son started to practice, too.

On July 22, 1999, the three of us went to the provincial government and asked for the unconditional release of our fellow practitioners. What awaited us were fully armed police, sirens, and all kinds of police vehicles running back and forth. It was like time stood still. We stood in the front of the group of appealing practitioners. The video cameras of the police were recording everything. I thought: no matter what happens, I will protect Dafa and tell the truth.

On October 1, in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, a newspaper called "Business Morning News" published an article that listed Falun Gong as one of ten biggest crime cases (of the Province). I went to the newspaper office with five other fellow practitioners to clarify the truth. The police arrested us and sent us to a detention center, where we were held for 15 days.

On December 3, 1999, I went to Beijing to validate Dafa with my 8-year-old son. With some fellow practitioners whom I had not met before, we went to appeal in Tiananmen Square. Two days later, the police arrested us. My mother (68 years old) went to Beijing to appeal by herself after our arrest. The police sent me to the Liaison Office of Chengdu City in Beijing. In the Liaison Office, the police found a piece of paper with the phone number of a fellow practitioner and put it on the desk. I immediately grabbed the piece of paper and put it into my mouth. The guards then cuffed my hands to the stone lion outside the door. Later on, I met my son, who was also detained there. He told me that since it was snowing, he started to practice the second set of movements. He was taken into a police vehicle right after he started to practice. In the Liaison office, my son slept on a long chair. Fearing that my son could not stand the cold, a fellow practitioner took off his coat and put it on him. Seeing this, the guards beat that practitioner and cuffed him outside in the cold wind for the whole night. His hand was also bleeding because of the beating.

A few days later, some police guards from Sichuan province came to pick us up. Before we left, the guards threatened me, "You have only 30 minutes to tell us the phone number you put into your mouth; otherwise we will give you a heavy sentence." I was not moved at all by their threat.

Upon returning to Chengdu, we were detained in a drug detoxification center. Because I persisted in practicing the exercises, a wicked guard kicked me out of the room and forced us to stand in the freezing wind without our heavy coats. The persecutors also forced us to squat on the ground for a long time as a method of torture. Two days later, I was transferred to a detention center, where over 20 people lived in a room of less than 200 square feet. It smelled badly in the room. In the morning, I could only drink the water in the toilet and use it to wash my face and brush my teeth. The guards often shut off the water on purpose, and when that happened, during mealtimes at least 10 people in this small room had to eat their food right next to a toilet filled with excrement.

One time, the perpetrators forced us to watch a video program in which some practitioners from the Falun Dafa Association were sentenced. When we finish watching, the director of the detention center said, "Even your leaders have quit practicing, are you going to persist?" I stood up right away and replied, "We cultivators take the Fa as teacher, and we don't follow any examples." The director got very angry: his plan of "brainwashing" us using the video program failed with a quick end.

Because I refused to give up my cultivation, the persecutors kept re-detaining me until March 1, 2000 (according to the law, criminal detention can not exceed 15 days, so they started another period of detention when one ended). By that time, I had been detained 4 times in a row, and the Two Conferences were in session. I thought: I don't want to be detained here anymore. I want to go to Beijing to appeal. On the same day, the guard who was in charge took my brother to see me. After extorting 2000 Yuan and a "guarantee letter" from my brother, I was released.

I returned home and met my mother there. She told me that after she went to appeal in Beijing, the police arrested her and sent her to the Liaison Office. Because it was very cold, and there was no bed, she put her legs up on a chair. The guards thought she was crossing her legs to do meditation, so they beat her up and forced her to stand outside. Later on, she was transferred to the drug detoxification center, where persecutors forced her to run and stand for a long time. They also tortured her by not giving her anything to eat. Two days later, she was sent to another detention center. The guards there repeatedly asked whether she would still practice Falun Gong. When she replied "yes," the persecutors would torture her by forcing her to stand outside in the cold weather. Later on, the local police station took her back. The guard from the police station lied to her saying, "Your daughter was sentenced to three years in jail, so you cannot stay at her home." My mother said, "No. I have been staying with her for many years, and plus, I need to cook for my grandson." However, the guard forced her to go to my brother's home. My 8-year-old son was left alone at my home. When my mother reached her son's home, the local police drove her back to her own hometown.

On March 2nd, I went to Beijing to appeal again. This time I took a detour in order to avoid the police. When I reached the appeals office, I found many police cars (from all over the country) parked along the street, more than 100 police guards blocked the entrance of the street and stared at everyone that passed by. It took a lot of effort for me to push through the crowd and walk toward the appeals office. On the small street, there were still many plain-clothes police guards walking back and forth. By this time, my legs were stiff, and I looked straight ahead, and did not even dare to look to the side. I had only one thought in mind: I must walk into the appeals office. When I entered the office, more police guards were walking and watching. Before I could finish filling out a form, some plain-clothes police guards discovered that I was appealing for Falun Gong. They grabbed the collar of my coat and dragged me out of the room. I found that a few other Dafa practitioners were there. We finally finished the forms and turned them in. Yet the police would not let us go: they were waiting for the local liaison offices to pick us up.

On March 18, the local police took me back and put me into a detention center. During that time, Dafa practitioners in the detention center went on a hunger strike to protest. Then 7 or 8 male guards held one practitioner and force-fed him. Later on the practitioners exchanged ideas and thought that we should go out to validate Dafa. We then wrote a petition letter. On May 24, I was released.

On June 8, the persecutors held a poster show that slandered Dafa. I wrote an article titled "Clarify the Truth and Return the Clean Reputation of Falun Dafa" and distributed it in front of the exhibition building. In the article, I wrote how the TV station had deceived people: in October 1999, I had gone to the "Business Morning News" and told them that I suffered from a blood vessel tumor for many years, and many years of medical treatment (the doctors even took out one of my blood vessels) did not cure the disease; after I practiced Dafa, it disappeared. Later on, the local TV station broadcasted the scene in which I showed them my lower leg to tell them where the tumor had been, but they distorted the facts and added someone else's voice saying, "Practicing Falun Gong caused the disease of blood vessel tumor, but Falun Gong does not allow me to receive medical treatment..." After I disclosed their deeds, the persecutors illegally ransacked my home on June 13. At the time, I did not even have my shoes on. They dragged me down from the third floor. My socks, my knees and feet were all torn. I then went on a hunger strike. The perpetrators later sentenced me to 1 year in a forced labor camp.

In August, I was sent to Zizhong Forced Labor Camp in Sichuan Province. Because I have too many human attachments, I did something that a Dafa practitioner should never do: I told lies. Yet Teacher did not give up on me. After I recited Teacher's new articles, I woke up after going astray for three months, and I immediately wrote a solemn declaration. In my declaration, I once again clarified the truth about the TV station slandering Dafa. I turned it in to the guards of the labor camp, and they illegally extended my term for an additional three months.

Later, the guards assigned two "helpers" to me: they controlled my every move 24 hours a day. They followed me when I ate, slept, or used the restroom.

Around the time of the Spring Festival of 2001, some officials from the Chengdu City Education Committee came to the labor camp to show their "care," and had a talk with me. I told them my true story. After they learned that the TV station was telling lies, they did not say a thing.

In July 2001, the head of the guards said that I was doing "counter-reformation." They put me and 10 other practitioners in a room that was about 100 square feet for "strict control." The temperature in the room was over 105 ^o F, and we were forced to eat, drink, and defecate in this room. As a result, the room smelled badly. We were never allowed to leave the room. Every day, we were forced to get up at 6 a.m. and sit like soldiers in an army camp until 10 p.m. We were not allowed to close our eyes or move our mouths, otherwise the persecutors would think we were practicing or reciting Teacher's articles.

In August of 2001, I was transferred to a cell where there were ordinary inmates. Once we were talking about the so-called "self-immolation" incident in Tiananmen Square. I told them my story and how the TV station lied. Everyone realized that the TV stations were telling lies. The guards were angry with me and they forbid me to talk.

On September 29, my term at the forced labor camp was due to be over. The local police picked me up and since I refused to give up my cultivation, they wanted to put me into a detention center. They even filled out a form for a 15-day detention. I decided to appeal the illegal treatment, yet they still detained me for 10 days.

In early November, I went to the local residence office to get my ID card. The police wanted me to write a report (of what I think of Falun Gong). I wrote of my determination to cultivate. Upon seeing my report, they became furious and said that I was stubborn. They also said that they could throw me in jail just for the report. Because I was solid in my mind, their voices softened, and finally they asked me kindly, "Do you want us to send your ID card to you using express mail or ordinary mail?" They also gave me their address and phone number.

To get my ID, I needed to go through another office. When I got there, the office staff was shocked: "It's you! Our supervisors blamed us so many times because of you; we were also put into "study sessions" and scolded because of you. Yet we do not even know you." I told them the truth about Falun Gong and my story. In the face of a living example, they had no choice but to admit to the facts. They said, "Never say that your ID was confiscated because you practice Falun Gong; just say you dropped it in a river or it was burned accidentally. I said, " No, I won't lie." They said, "After going through all the trouble and tribulation, she still tells the truth. Falun Gong must be truly good." Another one added, "To be honest, only Falun Gong practitioners dare to tell the truth these days."

Around 12 a.m. on December 28, I was abducted by 7 or 8 wicked people and brought to a detention center.

There were already 11 fellow practitioners in the cell. We studied Fa, practiced the exercises, and sent forth righteous thoughts every day. Once a 20-year-old female guard asked me to go out to register. Her attitude was very fierce. I clarified the truth about the so-called "self-immolation" incident, and showed her my lower leg (where the blood vessel tumor used to be). She was surprised and asked, "You have been to the labor camp? My supervisors told me that everyone in the labor camp had been 'reformed' already." I said, "They lied to you. If everyone has been 'reformed,' then why am I still here?" She was shocked. Since then, she changed her attitude toward Dafa practitioners, and whenever things came up, she would talk to me as if I was her friend.

One month later, I was transferred back to the local police station. The Chief asked me if I had any plans for the future. I said, " I plan to be a good person according to the principles of 'Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance.'" He roared furiously, "Throw her in [to the detention room]!" I immediately stood up and replied, " Your words do not count. You are wrong to illegally detain me. Don't think of my benevolence as fear. I will go home today for sure." As I spoke, I started to walk out. The guard in charge of my area dragged me back and asked me to sit down first. After a little while, my brother came. The Chief sent me home in a car.

In April 2002, a fellow practitioner was arrested for distributing truth-clarifying materials. From the practitioner, the police learned that the materials came from me. They ransacked my home and took away many materials and some banners. They forced me into a detention center. I refused to go into the interrogation room or the detention center. A wicked guard literally kicked me into the room.

In the detention center, I refused to follow the rules for inmates and went on a hunger strike. I also sent forth righteous thoughts when the guards came for an inspection. The guards put cuffs and shackles on me and linked the cuffs and shackles, so I could not stand straight. They also force-fed me. A few days later, they tied me on to a "death bed" [Note: A special torture where a person is tied to a board at a fixed position with no movement possible for a long time] and force-fed me twice a day. They tied me on the "death bed" for a long time, and would not even let me use the restroom. Once when I asked for the right to use the restroom, an inmate hit me on the head with a pair of handcuffs, leaving two holes in my scalp. Blood immediately rush out and ran down my head, soaking the pillow and my clothes. The guards ignored my injury and said, "You deserve this." On the 15^th day of my hunger strike, the police sent me to a hospital. After repeated request, they sent me home. However, they assigned some of the staff from my local residence office to live with me at my home and monitor me all the time. One afternoon, while I was shopping for groceries on the street with my "chaperone," I escaped when she was buying some fruit. I was then forced to leave home and move from place to place.

Right before the opening of the 16th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (Around October 2002), the director of the residence office tried to extort 3000 Yuan [Chinese dollar. The average monthly salary of an urban worker in China is about 500 Yuan, but only 200 Yuan for a rural worker.], saying that it was for medical expenses. My mother said, "My daughter only spent one night at the hospital last time, how could the expenses be 3000 Yuan? I don't have money for it." They said, " You can sell your TV and washing machine." Because my mother resisted their illegal deed, the persecutors did not succeed in their extortion.

On December 8, 2002, when I was on the stairs inside the residence building near my home, I noticed that someone was following me. The person took out his police ID. Only then I realized he was the "fellow practitioner" I met two days ago. He abducted me and another practitioner who was staying at my home (who had just been released after going on a hunger strike for a long time). My home was illegally ransacked again, and the persecutors took away 3000 Yuan. They covered my mouth with tape and then used a black plastic bag to cover my head, then took me to a hotel room and cuffed me to a chair. I was not allowed to close my eyes or sleep. Because I did not cooperate with them, they beat me up and used my shoes to torture me. They also used toothbrushes to brush my face, beat me with a rod-shaped tool, burnt my hands with cigarettes, used the cigarettes to blow smoke up my nostrils, and poured alcohol on my face. If I closed my eyes, the guards would take turns violently shaking me, which made me dizzy. If that did not work, they would slowly pour cold water over my head, soaking all my clothes. They tortured me like this for 6 days, trying to force me into telling them where I got the truth-clarifying materials. I did not cooperate with them and went on a hunger strike. Later on, the police station illegally detained me again. I sent forth righteous thoughts right away to completely oppose the persecution. I thought: Teacher, please help me. I want to get out and disclose the agent that disguised himself as a practitioner, and prevent damage to more materials-making sites and persecution to more practitioners. I tried many methods, and finally, I jumped down from the 4^th floor.

They sent me to a hospital. I had many fractures in my lower body, including my pelvis and my right leg. I sent forth righteous thoughts. The persecutors wanted the doctors to operate on me, but the doctors said that I was too weak to be operated on. Slowly, my leg swelled like an "elephant leg," and it turned purple in color. I started a hunger strike, requesting an immediate release. Finally, the police carried me home after a hunger strike of 30 days, fearing to take responsibility should I die.

My family members could not recognize me when I reached home. They had to feed me using a spoon and a straw. I could not use the restroom, and had to use a diaper. Since I could not even turn over, I had to stay in one position for a long time, which caused horrible back pain.

Under the compassion of Teacher and the help of my fellow practitioners, and with the righteous thoughts I had through cultivating Dafa, I recovered miraculously: now I can slowly walk along the wall.

I want to express my sincere respect to our great Teacher and my deep appreciation for the fellow practitioners who helped me.

(Clearwisdom.net) Jiang's regime has frequently detained healthy, innocent Dafa practitioners in drug rehabilitation centers, sparking resistance both from the public and from Dafa practitioners. The following are stories of what happened in one such drug rehabilitation center.

During the Chinese New Year in 2001, female division No. 2 of the drug rehabilitation center called a meeting. Chief Liu slandered Dafa. The practitioners immediately stood up and called, "Falun Dafa is good! All Dafa practitioners are good people." A group of police officers and drug abusers started to beat the practitioners. A policeman dragged me by my hair from the conference room all the way to the office. Bunches of my hair were torn out and I collapsed on the floor. One police officer tried to stop the beating, and a group of male drug abusers in the cells across the hallway shouted, "Stop beating Falun Gong practitioners! They are all good people, Falun Dafa is good!" Chief Liu was scared and immediately left. Since then no one has called any meetings to slander Dafa any more.

All practitioners that were detained in the drug rehabilitation center agreed that it was wrong to detain us there, we should not acknowledge the persecution against Dafa and Dafa practitioners. As a result, we refused to wear the uniforms for drug abusers and refused to answer when our names were called. Whenever the drug abusers were called into a meeting, we would recite Lun Yu and Hong Yin together loudly. We also insisted on practicing the exercises every day.

If the police beat any Dafa practitioner, the rest of us would gather in the big hall to practice the exercises together and request that the person who tortured Dafa practitioners receive punishment. More than 40 practitioners here formed joined together as one body to work together. We documented the facts of police abusing Dafa practitioners, and inserted messages of "Falun Dafa is good" or "Falun Dafa is the righteous way" into products that we were forced to make. The products were shipped all over the country and the center received feedback about the messages. The police did not dare do anything about it.

Anytime someone came to the center to visit or inspect, we would shout, "Falun Dafa is good, we are being abused." Though the police strictly controlled the use of pens in the center, truth-clarifying slogans could be seen on the walls. When the police interrogated us and asked us to sign interrogation records, we tore the records to pieces.

When the police wanted to shock Dafa practitioners with electronic batons, all practitioners would recite Master's Hong Yin together loudly,

(Clearwisdom.net) Once when I was holding an orientation class for new workers for a steamship company, I found that most in the class had been deceived by TV slanderous propaganda against Falun Gong and knew little about the truth. I began to think about how to break the truth to them.

Because of the spreading of SARS, some students have relatives and friends working in hospitals or studying in universities. They already knew that a number of people jad died from SARS and some people that had caught the SARS virus were not quarantined. They understood that instead of reporting the facts, the local newspaper lied, saying not a single case of SARS had been found in the local area. Using this as a starting point, I revealed the deceitful character of China's media system, and then brought up the topic of the persecution of Falun Gong.

The recruits finally realized what really happened. One said to me, "If you did not tell me the facts of Falun Gong today, I would have reported the practitioner who gave me a truth clarification VCD to the police." On the next day, he brought the VCD to the class and let others watch it. All students now know that the so-called "Tiananmen Immolation" is plotted by Jiang's regime.

Another in the orientation class said, "Please tell us more about the truth of Falun Gong,. We want to share with our colleagues and families!" Another borrowed the book Zhuan Falun and shared it with his neighbors. I am deeply moved by the compassionate power of Dafa. People are waiting to be saved and looking for the Fa!

Due to the threat of SARS, the overseas manager of the company's Department of Human Resources cancelled his trip to China to interview these workers. This means that they may not be able to be formally employed to work for the company. They were angered and complained that the government lied to them, not only putting their lives in danger, but also jeopardizing their ability to earn a living.

I exposed the truth to them: SARS was found in last November in Guangzhou City, but Jiang was so obsessed with retaining his post as head of the Military, so he sealed off all SARS information and flooded the airwaves with his "three represents" propaganda and US-Iraq war reports, and did not allow the media to report on SARS. His actions caused the epidemic to spread widely and to endanger many lives. The local newspaper's false report was a good example of this.

They all want to know what they could do, so I told them that keeping "Falun Dafa is Good" in their hearts would bring good rewards to them. They all are willing to do it and hope that Jiang, who put the nation and people in danger, will be brought to justice so that their lives can return to normal.

When a policeman went to the home of a practitioner's relative to arrest him, the relative was irritated and told the police: "Falun Gong practitioners are not bad people. You only arrest good people but leave bad people alone. The world is becoming corrupt." The relative protected the practitioner and helped to print truth materials to expose the evil.

A certain practitioner's husband is a non-practitioner. One day a policeman on patrol who knew him said, "Falun Gong is very powerful. On May 12, three more police vans were painted with [Falun Gong] signs [by Falun Gong practitioners]. I bet those in charge would like to start another round of arrests of Falun Gong practitioners." The husband replied, "Don't take it seriously [meaning not to report on practitioners]." The policeman smiled and winked in agreement.

The Third Forced Labor Camp of Henan Province is a place where the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners is rampant and violent. Listed below are various torture methods that they routinely use in their attempt to break the practitioners' wills.

The guards handcuff the practitioner's hands and feet, and then hang the handcuffs from a horizontal stick. They have subjected practitioners to this cruel torture for as long as 11 hours.

The police tie up the practitioner with a thin rope, circle the rope around his neck, and tie his hands behind his back. Then the police would use all the force they could muster to tighten the rope. The rope becomes tighter and tighter around the body of the practitioner, and makes it more and more difficult for him to breathe. The pain is so intense that the practitioner sometimes loses control of his bladder. There are instances when the rope was tightened enough to break a practitioner's arm. In some cases, they would even wet the ropes and tie it along marks from previous tortures to increase the pain.

The prison guards forcibly inject psychotropic drugs into the practitioners. Then they shock practitioners with electric batons for hours, sometimes even throughout the night.

On March 21, 2001, the 3^rd Labor Camp in Henan Province organized a meeting for all the people at the labor camp. At the meeting, about 20 Dafa practitioners shouted, "Falun Dafa is good! Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance is good!" The prison guards then pushed those practitioners down to the ground and beat them. Afterwards, they tied those practitioners up and tortured them. Some practitioners had blood and bruises all over their bodies. All the units were then ordered to organize criticism sessions, in which the practitioners were verbally abused and tortured physically at the same time. Those practitioners' terms were later prolonged for 4 months to 1 year.

The regulations state that the daily schedule in the labor camp is 6 hours working and 2 hours study. However, in the 3^rd Labor Camp of Henan Province, the work hours are 16 hours a day, sometimes even 20 hours a day. When an outside organization came to inspect the facility, the guards would threaten practitioners not to reveal the situation or else they would have their terms extended. Even the practitioners that had given up their belief were never released when their terms expired.

To cover up their crimes, the labor camps strictly blocks information by not allowing the practitioners to correspond with the outside world or have visitors.

The police would deprive Dafa practitioners of sleep for consecutive days and nights. The police would take turns watching the practitioners. The authorities promised them a certain amount of financial reward for "reforming" a practitioner. The most brutal officer would get promoted the fastest. Thus the police and guards have tortured practitioners madly. Some practitioners have been tortured to death.

In order to stop the Jiang regime's continuing vicious acts, we risk our lives to reveal what is really happening here as part of the evidence for the lawsuits against Jiang Zemin, Zeng Qinghong, Luo Gan and Li Lanqing, etc. We hope that international human rights organizations and legal entities will soon bring Jiang's political gang to justice.

Ms. Liu Zhiying has been illegally detained for two years and three months, including one year of forced labor, for distributing Dafa truth-clarifying flyers. She has sustained broken ribs from beatings for practicing the Dafa exercises. She was not allowed to have any blankets and was forced to sleep on a bare wooden bed during the winter, for over one month. She was released in April of 2002. But one month later, on May 1^st, she was illegally arrested again and sent to a detention center. She held two hunger strikes during her unlawful detention. "610 Office"¹ officials, though, still refused to release her and held her for additional persecution. Now she has been sent to a hospital because of her extremely weak health.

Ms. Zhu Xiumei and Ms. Qu were doused with cold water in the winter for practicing the Dafa exercises. Even when the temperature was below minus 30 degrees Celsius [minus 20⁰F], they were forced to stay outside for over two hours without winter coats. Li Tingjun, Deputy Chief of the Police Department remained at the detention center to oversee the persecution.

Ms. Jian Yuqin has been illegally sentenced to two years of forced labor because she went to Beijing to validate Dafa in 2002. She was also illegally detained at the Drug Rehabilitation and Forced Labor Camp in Harbin City, where she was severely tortured, and on the verge of death. The labor camp requested the "610 Office" affiliated with Fangzheng County Forest Bureau to take her back, but they did not want to take responsibility for the crime. The labor camp authorities were forced to send Jian Yuqin back home. The "610 Office" enforcers deployed four policemen and eight other personnel from a residential committee to work around the clock to monitor her. As soon as Jian Yuqin got well, their orders were to immediately take her back to the detention center. This made it necessary for Jian Yuqin to leave home to avoid further persecution, even though she was still in an extremely weak condition. Now no one knows her whereabouts.

Mr. Li Hongkui has been sentenced to forced labor re-education for one year because he went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa in February of 2000. In 2001, after his term expired, he was not released, and is still being detained. He has now been persecuted and unlawfully held at this detention center for more than three years.

In March 2003, Ms. Ma picked up a Falun Gong truth-clarifying flyer in front of her door. After she read it, she felt that it was very good and wanted to have more people read it. So she posted the flyer in a prominent place. Han Dongyi, Politics and Security Section Chief from the police department found out what she had done. This lawless policeman detained her for 15 days and extorted 2,000 Yuan² from her before releasing her. In the winter of 2002, he also extorted 1,400 Yuan from two elderly women, Ms. Man and Ms. Wang.

Recently, enforcers from the "610 Office," the Fangzheng County Forest Bureau, the Police Department, Prosecuting Office, the court, residential street committees and other organizations began illegally monitoring and arresting Falun Gong practitioners.

Dafa practitioners Ma Guiqin and Ma Li (mother and daughter) from Dalian city, Liaoning province, were both detained at Yaojia detention center and Dalian city labor camp. Ma Li's stepfather died of a car accident on April 25^th, 2003.

After the accident occurred, Ma's relatives and friends took evidence to the police station, the detention center, and the National security group requesting the release of the mother and daughter so they could take care of the funeral affairs. However, the person in charge didn't release them, giving the excuse of "prevention of SARS."

Ma Fuwei is the head of the Zhangjiakou City "610 Office."* Ma, along with some other officials, have arrested practitioners Ms. Bai Yinglian, Ms. Wang Fengyi, Liu Jianjun, Wang Xiaoming and others. The practitioners have been sentenced to jail and labor camps, where their terms have been extended arbitrarily.

1. The city's "610 Office" is headed by Ma Fuwei and Yan Zhiyou. Ma is the former vice chief of the Qiaodong Police Sub-department. He was promoted to the vice director of Zhangjiakou City Police Department for his "achievement" in persecuting Dafa practitioners. Yan is the chief of the Qiaodong Police Sub-department.

Ma and Yan ignored the law and followed Jiang's orders to take away people's freedom of speech and belief. They have persecuted and tortured Dafa practitioners for the past four years. According to the law, detention centers can only hold people for up to 37 days. In the following 5 cases, the perpetrators illegally abducted the practitioners and then held them in detention centers for extended periods, well past the legal limit. Arbitrary and groundless kidnapping is a serious crime in any country.

2. Director of Shisanli Detention Center Cui Weidong, Director of Xuanhua Detention Center Qin Baozhu, and the guards in the two detention centers worked with Ma Fuwei and Yan Zhiyou in their illegal abduction, detention, and sentencing of practitioners. They illegally detained practitioners like Wang Fengyi (female), Wang Xinyu, Zhang Xiaojun (female), Zheng Meiying (female), Liu Zhaohong (female), Liu Zhaohui, An Liqing, Bai Yinglian (female), Yi Weiping, Wu Zhaolin, Liu Jianjun, Guo Shuying (female), Hu Shuhua (female), and Wang Xiaoming for periods well past the 37-day limit.

Practitioner Wang Fengyi, female, 47 years old. She lives on South Mingde Street, Zhangjiakou City, and works at the Electrical Switch Company in that city. On May 9, 2002, Wang was arrested at another practitioner's home. Instructed by Ma Fuwei and Yan Zhiyou, some guards from Qiaodong Police Sub-department abducted Wang and tortured her: they threatened her and tried to extort a confession from her during illegal interrogations, kept her awake for long periods of time, shocked her with electric batons, and tortured her with the "tiger bench" [an instrument of torture in which one is forced to sit on a small iron bench with the knees tightly tied to the bench and hands tied behind the back. Usually some hard objects are inserted underneath the lower legs to make it even harder to bear the pain, see illustration at http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2001/11/24/16156.html]. Since her arrest a year ago, she has been illegally held at Xuanhua Detention Center.

Practitioner An Liqing, male, 38 years old. He lives in Mengguying District of Zhangjiakou City, and is a taxi driver. On May 9, 2002, An was arrested at another practitioner's home. Instructed by Ma Fuwei and Yan Zhiyou, some guards from Qiaodong Police Sub-department abducted and tortured An using the same methods they used on Wang Fengyi. An was later held at Shisanli Detention Center. The perpetrators also took away his taxi (worth over 60,000 Yuan) and extorted 5,000 Yuan in cash from him.** In August 2002, the persecutors sent him to Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in the Baoding Area. At present, An is still being held there.

Practitioner Zheng Meiying, female, 38 years old. On May 9, 2002, Zheng was arrested at another practitioner's home. Instructed by Ma Fuwei and Yan Zhiyou, some guards from Qiaodong Police Sub-department abducted and tortured her using the same methods they used on Wang Fengyi. She has been illegally held at Shisanli Detention Center since her arrest.

Practitioner Liu Zhaohui, male, 28 years old. He lives in Shacheng Town, Zhangjiakou City. Practitioner Liu Zhaohong, female, Liu Zhaohui's sister, 25 years old, also from Shacheng Town, Zhangjiakou City. The siblings were arrested from their home on May 9, 2002. Instructed by Ma Fuwei and Yan Zhiyou, some guards from Qiaodong Police Sub-department tortured them using the same methods mentioned above. They have been held at Shisanli Detention Center for a year now.

Practitioner Wang Xinyu, male, 34 years old. He lives on Gongye Street, Zhangjiakou City, and he works at the Industrial and Business bank of Zhangjiakou City. Practitioner Zhang Xiaojun, Wang Xinyu's wife, is 34 years old. She also works at the Industrial and Business bank of Zhangjiakou City. They were arrested on May 9, 2002 and tortured the same way as the above practitioners. Wang Xinyu has been held at Shisanli Detention Center for a year now. Zhang Xiaojun was sent to Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in the Baoding Area and is still being detained there.

Practitioner Yi Weiping, male, 36 years old. He lives in Xibagang, Qiaoxi District of Zhangjiakou City, and he works at the Metals Company of Zhangjiakou City. Practitioner Bai Yinglian, his wife, is 36 years old. She works at the Zhangjiakou City Business Bureau. On October 7, 2002, Li Jingyun (director of the Zhangjiakou City Police Department) and Ma Fuwei, cooperating with the State Security Bureau sent out over 700 guards to search for the couple. On Dajingmen Street, they were abducted and brought to the Qiaoxi Police Sub-department, where, for over a month, they used all kinds of methods to torture them: shocking with electric batons, hanging them up and beating them, beating them with batons, sleep deprivation, using the "tiger bench," etc. In mid-November, the perpetrators sent the couple to Shisanli Detention Center, where they have been held since.

In order to arrest Bai Yinglian and Yi Weiping, Li Jingyun and Ma Fuwei illegally detained Bai's brother for over two weeks. Bai's brother's children were also taken away from their home for many days, during which the perpetrators threatened, cursed, beat, and lied to them for information.

Practitioner Wu Zhaolin, male, 36 years old. He lives in the No. 2720 Army Residence. He is a doctor of internal medicine. On October 8, 2002, Wu went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa. He was illegally abducted and sent back to Zhangjiakou City by the police in Beijing. Since his return, he has been held at Shisanli Detention Center.

Practitioner Liu Jianjun, male, 40 years old. He lives on Donghe Street, in Qiaodong District. On October 8, 2002, Liu went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa. He was illegally abducted and sent back to Zhangjiakou City by the police guards in Beijing. Yan Zhiyou and Ma Fuwei sent him to Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in Baoding Area. In the labor camp, the guards forced him to do heavy labor for up to18 hours a day. The persecutors brutally tortured him with all sorts of methods: two of Liu's ribs were broken during the torture, and his fingers became crippled. He has been detained in the labor camp since October 2000.

Practitioner Hu Shuhua, female, in her 40's. She lives on Hanqiao Street, Zhangjiakou City, and she works at the Dida Shopping Center. At around 7 AM on October 2, 2002, when Hu was buying breakfast for her paralyzed mother (In June 2001, guards from Shenjiatun Police Station of Zhangjiakou City searched the home of Hu Shuhua and her sister. Their mother was so traumatized she became paralyzed.), Ma Fuwei and some guards from Xinhua Street Police Station illegally abducted her and sent her to Gaoyang Forced Labor Camp in the Baoding Area. At the time, the labor camp refused to take Hu. Ma Fuwei bribed the guards to keep her. Since then, she has been illegally detained in the labor camp.

Practitioner Guo Shuying, female, 45 years old. She lives in Yanjiatun, Zhangjiakou City. In February of 2002, guards from Shenjiatun Police Station illegally abducted her while she was putting up truth-clarifying materials. Since then, she has been detained at the Shisanli Detention Center.

Practitioner Wang Xiaoming, female, 54 years old. She works in the Office of the People's Representatives of Zhangjiakou City, and lives in the work unit's residence area. In December 2000, Wang went to Tiananmen Square to validate Dafa. She was illegally abducted and sent back to Zhangjiakou City by the police in Beijing. After her return, Ma Fuwei and Yan Zhiyou illegally held her at Xuanhua Detention Center for 2 years. In 2002, the perpetrators illegally sentenced Wang to 3 years in jail and sent her to Baoding City Women's Prison, where she is still being detained.

There is ample evidence of the crimes committed by Ma Fuwei, Yan Zhiyou, Cui Weidong, Qin Baozhu, and their associates. We hope that the "World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong" can bring the above criminals to justice. We will bring other lawsuits against the above criminals regarding other crimes committed against other, numerous, Dafa practitioners.

(Clearwisdom.net) On April 18, 2003, Yang Shuxiang, female, 38 years old, a teacher from Weifang Medical College, was abducted and taken to a brainwashing center in Weifang City Industry Cadre School by Kuiwen District police Liu Xiaowei, Weifang Medical College Security Section Chief Wen Qingjiang, and deputy Party Secretary of Kong Xuefeng (phone number 86-536-2992560) from the College's Management Department. The police from the "610 Office"* tried to brainwash her, forcing her to watch videos that slander Falun Gong and to listen to the nonsense of the former practitioners who went astray due to persecution. The officials from the "610 Office" said, "Except transformation, you have no other ways but death," "You will never be able to go home if you refuse transformation," and "If this place cannot transform you, you will be sent to the labor camp. If the labor camp cannot transform you, you will be sent to prison."

She had been very healthy before. But under the tremendous mental pressure in the period of more than half a month, her blood pressure has risen to 200/140 mmHg. Even so, the "610 office" officials, including Secretary Song, Director Kou, Li Tongkui, Guo Lidong, Lou Jinhong and others, still do not let her go home. Her 11-year-old daughter and husband are very worried about her life.

(Clearwisdom.net) A "solemn declaration" is a person's public statement declaring to the world that whatever he or she has done or said under duress or deception that was against Falun Dafa is null and void. Most of these statements have come from Falun Dafa practitioners in China who wished to express regret that, in the face of physical torture and brainwashing, they had signed documents renouncing Dafa and guaranteeing not to practice again. Also, as more and more people in China learn the truth about how they have been deceived and lied to by the Jiang regime, many non-practitioners are also submitting "solemn declarations."

The decision to block overseas Falun Gong practitioners from entering Hong Kong to attend a conference earlier this year was unconstitutional because it hampered the ability of local members to share their spiritual practices, a court heard yesterday.

The claim was made on behalf of Kan Hung-cheung, chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Falun Dafa, who is targeting the director of immigration in an application for leave to apply for a judicial review.

Mr Kan must now wait to see if he can argue his case before a full hearing after Madame Justice Carlye Chu Fun-ling reserved her decision.

The Court of First Instance was told that four of the Taiwanese practitioners who were stopped at Chek Lap Kok airport - Theresa Chu Woan-chyi, Liao Hsiao-lan, Lu Lih-ching and Chang Jenn-yen - were granted leave on April 29 to conduct a judicial review into the director of immigration's decision.

Counsel representing Mr Kan, Paul Harris, yesterday told the Court of First Instance that the four applicants were among 82 overseas Falun Gong practitioners refused entry into Hong Kong on February 22 this year to attend the conference. Three of the four had been due to speak at the conference.

Mr Harris said it was essential the court make a ruling on the matter as the Association of Falun Dafa was planning a conference in 2004 and wanted to know if there would be a repeat of this year's incident.

Mr Harris said the immigration director's decision had breached Article 141 of the Basic Law, which states the Hong Kong government shall not restrict the freedom of religious beliefs, interfere in the internal affairs of religious organisations or restrict religious activities.

(Clearwisdom.net -- June 3, 2003) On May 31, the 2003 Toronto Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference was held in University of Toronto's Geophysics Auditorium. Falun Gong practitioners from Toronto, Waterloo and Montreal attended the conference. The conference is one of the series of activities commemorating the 11th Anniversary celebration of Falun Dafa's introduction to the public.

About a dozen or so practitioners shared their cultivation experiences. Presenters shared their cultivation experience on how to use media and Internet to clarify the truth to Chinese people as well as how to upgrade xinxing and look inward in personal cultivation during Fa rectification period.

Practitioners held large-scale group practice in Queen's Park before the conference.

Names and crimes of the policemen at Longshan Education Center in Shenyang City, Liaoning Province:

Li Fengshi, the president of the education center, is guilty of many crimes persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

Li Jifeng, team lead of the First Team, blackmailed practitioners' families for huge amounts of money.

Tang Yubao, team lead of the Second Team, brutally beat Falun Gong practitioners and extorted money from their families.

Wang Jinghui, team lead of the Second Team, is in charge of persecuting Falun Gong practitioners.

Yang Min, team lead of the First Team, persecutes Falun Gong practitioners. Her mother received retribution in the form of having to undergo eye operations with resulting sequelae.

Wei Mintang, chairman of the Department of Administration, beat a Falun Gong practitioner who is in her 70s, and caused serious injuries.

Jiang Yubo, vice chairman of the Department of Administration, compiled books attacking Dafa. He once poured a basin of boiling water onto a practitioner.

Li Wuyi, the doctor of the center once tortured one practitioner and caused his blood pressure to be over 180 and heart rate over 120 / minute. Li said that the practitioner was faking the symptoms.

Li Shengyuan, former vice team lead of the First team, brutally beat Falun Gong practitioners. He received retribution. Something went into his ear and broke the eardrum when he was swimming. He immediately got an infection from this.

Young Falun Gong practitioners validate Dafa with their unique innocence and purity. They are pleasant and delightful. Their actions also encourage fellow practitioners to walk their path well and take each step righteously in their future:

1) One 3-year-old practitioner in Mainland China always follows her mom to distribute truth-clarification materials. She always gives suggestions to her mom: "Mom, put it up here!" "Mom, it is better to put it up here." She is like a happy angel. Once when she was playing with her friends, she went home and found Zhuan Falun. She proudly showed Master's picture to her friends: "Look, This is my Teacher!" With the purity and innocence of a child, she tells her friends about the wonder of Falun Dafa. When she talks to her father over the phone she always tells him: Study the Fa and send forth righteous thoughts.

2) One four-year old Falun Gong practitioner is very effective in passing out Falun Gong materials. She raises the flyers and VCDs high over her head and passes them to people. People will accept the materials and pleasantly touch her cute face. Once she saw a Westerner sitting down, taking a rest. She immediately handed him a Falun Gong flyer and taught him to read "Zhen, Shan, Ren (Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance)." Almost everyday she follows fellow practitioners to pick up the Falun Gong materials that have been thrown away. She can spot Falun Gong materials. She said: "There are 'Zhen, Shan, Ren' on Dafa materials that I can recognize." She also said: "We should not let them step on Dafa materials. It is not good for them to throw away Dafa materials."

The husband of one Falun Gong practitioner from the northwest has been continuously supporting his wife to cultivate and validate Dafa. In October 2000 the head of the police station went to his home and coaxed his wife to show him her identification card. When he wanted to leave, the husband asked him to return the ID, otherwise he would use self-defense on them since the police were breaking into people's home. Upon hearing this the police chief was scared and left the ID.

In 2001 his wife was kidnapped while making truth- clarification materials. The police took a search warrant with them and prepared to search everything. When they were about to reach Master's picture, he shouted loudly: "The bandits are robbing!" Several police charged at him insanely. They beat him and pushed him into the kitchen. It happened that a knife was beside him. He picked up the knife. Some police hid and some ran away. It was a big mess. Finally the police illegally detained him for a month to save face. The criminals in the prison all respected him a lot. They did not let him work and treated him like an important guest. They asked him day and night to tell some magical stories about Falun Gong.

HONG KONG - In recent days, a community in Beijing has been living in a state of constant anxiety. It has experienced what may prove to be as large a localized outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome as occurred in Hong Kong's now-famous Amoy Gardens, where in late March more than 300 people were infected with SARS, of whom 35 eventually died. It is obvious that some people have covered up the outbreak, and the situation has not been represented whatsoever in government-issued SARS statistics.

The outbreak occurred outside of Beijing's Fifth Ring Road - the outskirts of the Chinese capital - in Beiyuan Gardens, a large residential complex. Residents have indicated that the property developer responsible for managing the complex has consistently neglected to report the outbreak out of fear of the effect on property sales that would result from public knowledge of such an outbreak. Dozens of proprietors within Beiyuan Gardens have complained to anti-SARS district offices in Laiguangying village (where the complex is located) and the upscale Chaoyang district (which administers Laiguangying) as well as Beijing's municipal anti-SARS office. It wasn't until recently that the property developer overseeing the complex posted notices in corridors of the complex.

A public announcement has been posted, but the most severely infected building, Building No 15 of the Xiuju Garden subcomplex, has yet to come under a full quarantine. Because the situation has been hidden from residents, the massive complex's numerous previously unaware residents (there are more than 10,000 residents in total) have continued their close contact with one another. This has led to the recent infection trend taking a significant upturn.

The complex's residents have already started to take numerous precautions on their own to protect themselves, including opening a temporary Internet forum to ensure that every resident has access to the most up-to-date information on the complex's outbreak.

Some residents have said that they telephoned a nearby district anti-SARS office and were informed that one resident had already died from SARS within a building in the complex's Qingyou Garden subcomplex. Moreover, there were residents in Xiuju Garden's buildings 10 and 15 who had already been diagnosed, in addition to suspected cases in buildings 9 and 6.

From the beginning, the Laiguangying village anti-SARS office did not want to report the situation, saying it was for the property-development company to report. But residents said the company would not say anything about it. Employees of the anti-SARS office expressed great displeasure with the company, as the office had already given it a name list with the expectation that it would report to Beijing.

A resident also indicated that one night last week they saw with their own eyes a No 120 ambulance remove a resident from Xiuju Garden Building 17 a little bit after 9 o'clock. Later that same night, after 10pm, the ambulance returned and removed someone from Building 15. The resident, who declined to be named, asked, "If there's a quarantine on those who have been in close contact [with confirmed or suspected cases] then it should have been implemented on [May] 26 or 27. Why wait until yesterday night?" In actuality, the only quarantines that exist in the complex are self-imposed quarantines that residents who fear having or contracting SARS have put upon themselves. The man added that he believed that the most pressing matter at hand was to seal off the entire complex, thus cutting off what certainly had the potential to become another source of a rapid outbreak in the surrounding area, including Beijing.

Beijing media have yet to report on the situation at Beiyuan Gardens. Some residents have tried to bring attention to their situation via public websites, but, for example, their information was deleted within less than a minute after posting it on the popular Internet portal Sina.com. Even their telephones are now unable to send out text messages - Beiyuan Gardens residents have become overnight outcasts.

Having fallen into despair, some residents of Beiyuan Gardens sent a letter to Wang Qishan, Beijing's new mayor. Wang came into his present office after Meng Xuenong, the previous mayor, was removed from his post on April 20 as a result of the previous cover-up of the city's SARS epidemic. Complex residents are still waiting for Mayor Wang's response. The entire letter follows:

The SARS cases throughout the country and including Beijing are steadily decreasing, yet Beiyuan Gardens, situated in Chaoyang district's Laiguangying village, has become an overlooked corner in the battle against SARS.

The outbreak here is increasingly severe: In Xiuju Garden's Building 15 alone, there are three diagnosed SARS cases in apartments 1408, 1501 and 1701 as well as one suspected SARS infection. The most recent case was diagnosed on May 27, and the infected resident has spent three days and three nights in the neighborhood's Laiguangying clinic (this "clinic" was set up in a ground-floor shop in a residential building - next to a store and a supermarket that both have a steady flow of customers). At present we have registered 138 people in the clinic, all of whom urgently need to be quarantined and examined. In addition, Qingyou Garden's Building 20 also has a confirmed case who died on May 8. There are also suspected cases in [Qingyou Garden's] buildings 12 and 15. Zihuan Garden Building 9 has one suspected case.

Beiyuan Gardens is a large-scale residential community with about 10,000 residents. There are also a few thousand construction workers continuing their work on projects on the premises. New SARS cases have been emerging in Beiyuan Gardens from the beginning of May until the present. However, owing to it being situated outside of the Fifth Ring Road in a place that connects the city to the countryside, the task of governing the complex is left to the property developer charged with managing the community.

As for the manner in which the aforementioned company has managed [Beiyuan Gardens], its supervisory efforts have been lacking. The property developer, in order to forestall the negative effects of an outbreak on property sales in the development, has consistently not reported anything. It wasn't until after dozens of property owners registered multiple complaints with the Laiguangying, Chaoyang and Beijing municipal anti-SARS offices that the property developer decided recently to post announcements of SARS infections in the corridors of the affected buildings. Yet, even as of today, Xiuju Garden building 15 has still not implemented a complete isolation and quarantine. Now in places within the community such as Qingyou Garden trash is piling up as it falls from the sky. There are no disinfection arrangements. There is no garbage collection. Up to today, the people who are moving into the area have been scurrying about. The community's multiple clinics, and squalid neighborhood hospital have yet to be sealed off. There is nobody taking responsibility for disinfecting the community.

Beijing's SARS infections are decreasing, thanks to the diligent efforts of the municipal Party committee, the municipal government and every Beijing resident, so why are the SARS infections in Beiyuan Gardens still going up? The explanation is very simple. It's due to the property developer and Laiguangying village's government not viewing the situation as important. Their covering up of this outbreak has led to the spread of SARS to people who were uninformed and in close contact with infected residents, and the situation is exhibiting a steady upward trend.

In order to ensure the lives and health of the tens of thousands of residents in Beiyuan Gardens and quickly stem the spread of SARS, we vehemently plead to relevant leaders within the municipal Party committee and the municipal government to open an investigation regarding the outbreak prevention situation in Beiyuan Gardens and to supervise and urge the Laiguangying Village government and the property developer to adopt the following feasible SARS control measures as soon as possible:

1) Implement complete isolation and quarantine of the building with the most severe outbreak, Xiuju Garden Building 15, and to conduct multiple quarantines and inspections of the other buildings and floors with residents who are confirmed or suspected SARS cases.

2) Conduct automatic examinations of anyone who has come into close contact with residents who are confirmed or suspected SARS cases instead of merely posting a notice telling them to go to the hospital for examination.

3) Implement a full quarantine, after a thorough disinfection, of the clinics in Xiuju Garden Building 3 and Building 16, as well as the community hospital on the ground floor of Building 17 in addition to forbidding the opening of clinics and hospitals in residential buildings.

4) Disinfect the garbage resulting from daily life and eliminate the piles of garbage in Qingyou Garden as soon as possible.

5) Require, on a daily basis, obvious posting of updates that reflect the community's true outbreak situation.

6) Require that the property developer purchase infra-red heat sensors, which are to be used to check the body temperature of every person who enters or leaves Beiyuan Gardens.

7) Disinfect elevators and hallways several times daily, while requiring that everyone who rides in an elevator don a face mask.

In order to avoid a massive outbreak in Chaoyang district's Laiguangying village that attracts worldwide attention as in the case of Hong Kong's Amoy Gardens at this, the latest juncture in the fight against SARS, we hope with sorrowful hearts that the relevant leaders will adopt these measures as soon as possible. We must not let Beiyuan Gardens get left behind in the battle against SARS!

On May 28, the newest information on China's SARS situation was: Four new infections nationwide, three of them in Beijing, one of which was in Chaoyang, that very one was in Beiyuan Gardens!

The Chinese leadership's recently found fondness for openness brought on by the SARS crisis is fading along with the diminishing spread of the disease on the mainland, according to Sinologist Pierre Cabestan.

China's SARS prevention task force head Gao Qiang's defense of sacked Health Minister Zhang Wenkang on Friday shows China's leaders are intent on avoiding a 'Chernobyl effect,' where debate about official problems in preventing and dealing with the SARS disaster leads to a public questioning of leadership legitimacy, said Cabestan.

Gao told surprised reporters Friday the Chinese government had never underreported the spread of SARS in China and insisted Zhang's sacking in mid-April was not related to any cover-up attempt by the then health minister.

China's secretive Communist Party leadership has not yet publicly explained why Zhang, along with former Beijing Mayor Meng Xuenong, was fired at the same time as the government upgraded overnight SARS infection figures by a factor of 10.

Before the officials' fall from grace, overseas medical experts and journalists and even usually diplomatic World Health Organization (WHO) inspectors in China accused Chinese health officials of deliberately suppressing the figures of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) infection.

Chinese leaders' prerogative remains promoting social stability by tightly controlling information, said Cabestan, director of the Hong Kong-based French Center for Research on Contemporary China.

Their recently repeated, public assurances promising greater public openness to avoid any future national health disaster like SARS are mostly for show, he added.

SARS has revealed the biggest abuse of the political system -- the (problem with) officials' responsibility, ' the News Weekly magazine reported Beijing academic Du Gangjian as saying in early May.

Media lies, covering up information and reporting only good and not bad news damages the Chinese government's prestige and the public's trust in it, said Du, a professor at Beijing's National School of Administration.

The right of common people to information is necessary to make governmental policy making 'more transparent and democratic,' Lu, Xueyi, a researcher with the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, was reported as saying in the same article.

Hong Kong-based Sinologist Wang Guogang, however, does not believe widespread debate about SARS at all levels of Chinese society will push China's leadership onto a path of greater information openness.

'The Chinese regime is very skillful in taking advantage of people's wishful thinking,' said Wang, who teaches politics at the University of Hong Kong.

China's leaders have cleverly won international and domestic respect by sacking the health minister and the Beijing mayor, without taking any concrete steps toward greater openness, he added.

Monday marked the first day mainland China recorded no new SARS cases since the outbreak of the disease in China.

A SENIOR World Health Organisation official has criticised China's co-operation in the battle against SARS and said vital information was still being withheld, a report said today.

Hitoshi Oshitani, who is leading the UN agency's battle against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome in Asia, also complained China was not sharing information with international researchers working to understand the mystery virus.

"The World Health Organisation is still in urgent need of information that we are just not getting from China," Oshitani told the International Herald Tribune from the WHO's Manila-based regional office.

"On a policy level things have changed in China, but that has not altered attitudes on an operational level."

His comments came after China, which has recorded the most serious outbreak of SARS with more than 5300 cases, reported no new cases of the illness for the first time since it began releasing figures on April 20.

The decision to start giving daily updates followed criticism of China's cover-up SARS which first emerged in the southern province of Guangdong in November.

Despite the increased transparency, Oshitani said China was disclosing too little information about the number and background of cases, treatments and possible sources of the disease.

"We have good cooperation from Singapore, Hong Kong, Canada and even Vietnam," Oshitani said.

He said the lack of information made it difficult to judge the accuracy of the dramatic fall in the number of infections China has reported in the past few weeks.

"A few weeks ago when they told us there were 50 new cases, we did not know how recent those cases were," Oshitani said.

However, Oshitani said he believed the number of new cases was falling in China and that the WHO was confident there were no big clusters.

He was also critical of China's failure to contribute to the global effort to beat the disease.

"Unlike Hong Kong and Singapore, China has not been working on the international collaborative studies or taking part so actively in collective lab research," Oshitani said.

"Although China is the world's greatest reservoir of information on SARS, they do not share their information."

He added: "I am sure they have collected a great deal of information about the disease that could be of immediate use to researchers."
