Rally in Boston's Harvard Plaza: "Freedom for the People of Hong Kong, No Article 23" (Photos)
(Clearwisdom.net) At the noon on June 28 2003 (Saturday), the Global Coalition Against
Article 23 Legislation Boston Branch organized a rally at Harvard Plaza entitled "Freedom for
Hong Kong, No Article 23." Falun Gong practitioner Wang Zhiyuan first made a speech describing the brutal persecution of
Falun Gong in China for the past four years, and stressing that Article 23 would extend the
persecution to Hong Kong. The Senior Analyst of a Boston Investment Corp., and former researcher at
the Economics Institute of Harvard University, Mr. Jian Tianlun used accurate and detailed numbers
to show that Hong Kong's economy has deteriorated during the five years after its return to China.
"The Pearl of the Orient" has lost its glory. Director of Friends of Hong Kong and Macao,
Mr. Chen Du thanked the people of all countries for their concern for the future of Hong Kong. He
expressed deep concern over Article 23, that it would break the "One Country, Two Systems"
policy. Mr. Li Dayong, a representative from "World Organization to Investigate the Persecution
of Falun Gong" (WOIPFG) disclosed a few cases and pointed out that the Chinese Communist
Party's rule was based on violence and lies. He warned the Hong Kong government not to follow them
so close. The rally also played a video program against Article 23 and set up a signature collection booth.
When asked if they were willing to sign their names for the freedom of Hong Kong, most people
answered, "Sure, it is our responsibility." This sends a clear signal that Hong Kong's
future is not only a matter for the people of Hong Kong. The whole world is closely watching these
developments, and the Chinese dictator cannot freely manipulate Hong Kong and deprive the people of
their freedom. The Associate Press and World Journal covered the activity. |
