San Francisco city council member Mr. Chris Daly

On June 28 at the public rally against Hong Kong Article 23 legislation in San Francisco's Chinatown, San Francisco city council member Mr. Chris Daly expressed to a reporter that Article 23 will further estrange the deteriorating relationship between the Hong Kong government and the people. The government and its people should have a healthy bilateral relationship if the society is to be stable and normal.

Mr. Daly said, "In January I visited Hong Kong and could feel that the relationship between the Hong Kong government and people was going downhill. Article 23 has made this relationship even worse."

Mr. Daly pointed out that the Hong Kong government forcible push for Article 23 legislation has caused wide concerns among Hong Kong's people. Many groups and organizations including Christians, Falun Gong, legal circles and news circles are all appealing and asking for help.

Daly said the government and people should have a healthy bilateral relationship so the society can be stable and normal. "I am a council member of San Francisco. I need to go among the people and listen to their opinions and concerns, because every few years I need to seek their acknowledgement so they will reelect me. What's happening in Hong Kong, that Article 23 ignores the voice of the people is difficult to imagine in democratic countries.
