One of the "Ten Most Outstanding Youths" In Chengdu City Has Been Subject to Prolonged Persecution by the "610 Office"

Dafa practitioner Fan Haidong is 33 years old. He worked at the Chengdu City Hongguang Vacuum Tube Factory before taking a job at an electronic software company. He practiced Dafa together with his mother. Until he began to practice Falun Dafa, he had suffered poor health from a young age, encountering several life threatening situations early in his life. Since practicing Falun Dafa, he regained his health and became full of vigor.

Following "Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance" and endeavoring to improve his moral quality, Mr. Fan was an outstanding and welcome worker wherever he went. He had received a coveted honor by being named one of the "Ten Outstanding Youths In Chengdu City." Now, however, such an outstanding young man has been under prolonged illegal detention because of his steadfastness in his practice of Falun Dafa.

Over the past four years Mr. Fan and his mother have endured prolonged persecution by the "610 office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) at his work unit. He was detained at the Jiuru Detention Center and Lianhua Detention Center in Chengdu City for a total of 158 days, significantly longer than the detention limit set by law.

In the days leading up to the People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative session in March 2001, Mr. Fan and other fellow Dafa practitioners were again illegally kidnapped to a brainwashing class in Wenjiang. To resist the evil persecution Mr. Fan started a hunger strike. He was sentenced to 2 years of forced labor. He resisted brainwashing persecution by going on hunger strike numerous times and suffered a variety of tortures. In March 2003 his detention period was over but they added another two months of jail sentence without any charges because he refused to betray his faith in Dafa. On May 1, 2003 he was transferred back to his local police station. Because he refused to renounce his faith in Dafa, again he was sent to Pi County Detention Center for further confinement. He suffered electric shock torture when they tried to force him to abandon his faith in Dafa. On May 3, he was sent to the most notorious and atrocious Xinjin County Brainwashing Center for further persecution.

One of the reasons behind such a prolonged detention by the "610 Office" on Jianshe Road in Chenghua District, Chengdu City is their belief that Mr. Fan is a smart computer expert. They are concerned that once Mr. Fan becomes free, he will get on the Internet, fully make use of his capabilities to clarify the truth and expose the hideous nature of the "610 Office." That is why the personnel at the "610 Office" ignore the law and human rights, and continue their inhumane and long-term detention of Fan Haidong.
