US Permanent Resident Ms. Li Meizi is Arrested While Visiting Her Family in China and Sentenced to Two Years of Forced Labor
(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Li Meizi, 50 years old, is a permanent resident of the U.S. In September 2002, she went back
to Beijing from Florida to take care of her elderly parents. One day in November of the same year,
while having dinner at her friend's home, the police broke in and searched the whole place. The
police found two copies of flyers in her handbag. As a result, she was arrested and sent to a
detention center. Even though the labor "education" law in China does not apply to permanent residents of
foreign countries, the Fengtai District Police Department still refused to release her after having
detained her for eight months. Moreover, they sentenced her to two years of forced labor. Ms. Li Meizi is now reportedly being detained at the Fengtai District Detention Center in
Beijing. Fengtai District Police Department:
