Elderly Woman Dies from Trauma of Her Son and Daughter-In-Law Being Sent Into Forced Labor

(Clearwisdom.net June 23, 2003)

An elderly woman, Feng Xianrong, lived in my village with her sons, Meng Xianjun and Meng Xianzhong, and her daughter-in-law and grandson. Her older son, Meng Xianjun, suffers from dementia. The family faces financial difficulties. Her grandson gets sick very often. But since her daughter-in-law began Falun Gong practice, and introduced it to the others, her grandson's symptoms have disappeared. Even Ms. Feng's tracheitis has disappeared. This family has been free from the burden of medical expenses.

To their surprise, the regime began cracking down on Falun Gong. Ms. Feng's daughter-in-law was abducted for going to Beijing to say a few fair words for Falun Gong. The policemen in Beijing transferred her to the Beipiao Detention Center of Chaoyang, Liaoning Province. She was beaten and force-fed for not giving up her belief. After being detained for more than a month and being extorted of 3,000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China.], she was finally released. However, the local police abducted her from home ten days after her release, and illegally sentenced her to three years of forced labor education in the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp.

Her younger son Meng Xianzhong refused to give up his cultivation, so he had little choice but to leave his hometown to avoid further persecution. The policemen at his local police station followed him to Heilongjiang Province, abducted him, and sent him to forced labor education at the Xidayingzi Forced Labor Camp of Chaoyang. Ms. Meng was left at home with her older son, who has dementia, and her grandson. She cooks and works in the farm field. Under such mental and physical trauma, the elderly woman became bedridden with illness, but there was no one to take care of her. She died before she could see her son and daughter-in-law again.

Life then became even harder for the older son and grandson. The kind-hearted members of her village committee requested that the labor camps let either him or his wife come back to take care of the family. The Forced Labor Camp in Chaoyang took advantage of this by extorting 4,000 Yuan from Meng Xianzhong. Part of the money was borrowed from various sources and the final amount was obtained from selling all the provisions and corn at home. The money was paid three months ago but Meng still hasn't been released as promised.
