Forty-Seven Falun Gong Practitioners Transferred to Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center in Lanzhou City, Gansu Province

After being illegally detained in detention centers, jails, and forced labor camps, Falun Gong practitioners in Lanzhou City were all transferred directly to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center in Lanzhou City for intensive "re-education" [brainwashing].

For example, after being illegally detained for about one and a half years in the First Detention Center of Lanzhou City, Dafa practitioner Mr. Fang Shuguang, who was a teacher in the Party School of the Gansu Provincial Committee, was sent to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center to undergo further persecution.

Falun Gong practitioner Ding Tinglian was an accountant in the Sixth Plastic Production Factory of Lanzhou City. Because he insisted on practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Ding was first unjustly demoted to a job on the factory floor and later fired. Although Mr. Ding practiced Falun Gong only at home, the head of his company, the local police station, and the "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems) still didn't leave him alone. On November 8, 2002, his company asked him to come back to the factory to resume his job. When he went to his workplace, however, the supervisor, in collusion with vile persons from the "610 Office" and the police, handcuffed him immediately. He was forcibly sent to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center where he has been illegally detained for more than six months. Practitioners detained in the brainwashing center were all lured there by asking them to have a meeting with so and so. For example, six practitioners from Lantong Factory were asked by their workplace and the local street committee to have a meeting. After being coaxed to the street committee office, they were kidnapped and sent to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center.

At present, there are 47 Falun Gong practitioners being detained in the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center, all of whom are deprived of any visits from relatives. Authorities there don't allow them to talk to each other or walk around. Everyday, sinister people use both hard and soft tactics to threaten and persuade them. They even force some former Falun Gong practitioners, who collapsed under the mental pressure and recanted their belief, to try to spread their warped ways of thinking to the practitioners, and they punish those practitioners who do not cooperate with the evil people. The twisted purpose of this persecution is to use any and all means to have practitioners write the so-called "Three Statements" [Practitioners are coerced under brainwashing and torture to write these as proof that they have given up their belief. Created by the "610 Office," the three statements consist of a letter of repentance, a guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners.]

The Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center is a dark den of evil, and practitioners there are suffering enormous mental pressure. It is said that Falun Gong practitioners illegally detained in the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center are holding a hunger strike to protest their persecution.
