Dear Bill,

Pursuant to my previous letter of May 12, 2003 (my file #49583), I have received the sad news that the Chinese government has kidnapped another relative of persecuted Falun Gong practitioners and Canadian citizens Ms. Jinyu Li and her husband Mr. Shenli Lin, in this case Ms. Li's younger brother Mr. Chun Li.

This contemptible action occurred exactly one week ago, on May 22, 2003, and follows a months-long campaign of harassment, continual surveillance, periodic imprisonment, abuse and torture against Mr. Li and his wife. Mr. Li is currently being detained at Yang Pu Detention Center, at the Police Substation of Yang Pu, Shanghai. I am told that the telephone number is 86-21-6543-1000 ext. 31093.

As with other Falun Gong practitioners, I would urge the government to insist publicly upon his immediate release. I again call on the Canadian government to condemn China's unjustifiable repression of peaceful practitioners of Falun Gong and other persecuted minorities, and assist the victims however possible.

I look forward to your earliest possible reply.

Sincerely yours,

Svend J. Robinson, MP

Burnaby-Douglas
