The perpetrators were the village head and the people from the local "610 Office"*, who sent him to the No. 2 Detention Center. In August 1999, Tan Chengqiang went to Beijing to appeal for Dafa and was detained for 15 days. He went to Beijing again in October of the same year and was sent to the Yimianpo Labor Camp, where he was detained for two years. On May 18, 2003, village head Wang Hongsheng and villager Liu Hongguo reported him when he was clarifying the truth to people. Thugs from the "610 Office" arrested and sent him to the No. 2 Detention Center. Tan Chengqiang held a hunger strike during detention to protest the evil's persecution. Police officers brutally force-fed him. He was sent to a hospital when he was on the verge of death. They diagnosed him as suffering from complications arising from liquids filling up his lungs.
