Facts About the Persecution of Teacher Yang Fenglian and Her Daughter at Handan Mining Engineering College
(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa practitioner Yang Fenglian was a teacher at the Mining Engineering
College in Handan City, Hebei Province. She is well liked and respected by her colleagues and
students. Before she began cultivation in Dafa, she had breast cancer and underwent an operation and
chemotherapy in Beijing. She also had taken a lot of Chinese medicine. However, she had not
recovered. In 1998, she discovered Falun Dafa. Ever since she started practicing Falun Gong, she has
become healthier and more energetic, and was able to return to her job. Her daughter also became a
practitioner. In July 1999, Chinese dictator Jiang started the brutal persecution against Falun Gong
practitioners. The whole nation was subjected to his campaign of terror. Under such brutal
suppression, every Dafa practitioner faced a test. What would Dafa practitioners do when Teacher and
Dafa have been slandered and defamed, and themselves brutally persecuted? In October 2000, Yang Fenglian and her daughter were arrested because they went to Beijing to
appeal, and they were held in Handan City Second Detention Center. At that time, her daughter was
only 16 years old. Before the New Year of 2001, Yang Fenglian was sentenced to one year forced labor
and sent to the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp. Her daughter was brutally tortured because she
didn't give up practicing Dafa, refusing to write any of the so-called "Guarantee Statements."* She was handcuffed and fitted with heavy shackles.
She was shocked with high voltage electric batons four times, twice all over her body after she was
stripped completely naked. This is the kind of persecution the police forced upon a 16-years-old
girl! Through it all, she adhered to her belief in Dafa and refused to write any of the so-called
"Guarantee Statements." After 9 months of illegal detention, her family members had to pay
3,000 Yuan [500 Yuan is the average monthly income for an urban worker in China] to bail her
out. After that she was expelled from her school. After Yang Fenglian came back from the forced labor camp, her work unit sent several people to
monitor her in shifts. They also extended the persecution to her family. They didn't let her husband
go to work and forced him to divorce her. Right before the Chinese Communist Party's 16th National Conference in 2002, her work
unit officials and local policemen came to Yang Fenglian's home. She and her daughter refused to
open the door. The police then broke in through the windows. They forcibly abducted mother and
daughter to the Kaiyuan Police Substation of Handan City. They were then sent to the 2nd
Detention Center of Handan City. After three months of illegal detention, her family spent over
10,000 Yuan to bail out the daughter, and afterwards she was discharged from school again. Eight months later Ms. Yang has been detained again. Her family went to the police station to
bail her out, and the police said it was up to her work unit. They went to the work unit, and the
officials in her work unit said they need to be paid 20,000 Yuan in order for her to be released.
