The Corruption at a Police Station in Handan City, Hebei Province

Mr. Liu Jun is a Dafa practitioner from Handan City, Hebei Province who has been illegally detained by the local police for over two years. His wife, Yang Fanglian and their 3-year-old daughter went to the police station at the end of 2002 to ask for Liu Jun's release. The police not only refused to release Liu, but also detained their daughter and put Yang into a detention center. Yang Fanglian was illegally detained for over six months, and was not told about the whereabouts of her daughter. Soon after her release, she learned that their daughter had been sent to her mother's home in Taiyuan City, Shanxi province. When she asked the police to release her husband, the police asked for 5000 Yuan [Chinese currency, the monthly salary for an average Chinese urban worker is about 500 Yuan]. She had no way of finding that much money, since their home had been ransacked by the police several times, and she was forced to leave her job. Since the police didn't receive any money, they refused to release her husband, Liu Jun.

Many Dafa practitioners have been detained illegally in that district, and the police demand money before releasing any of them.
