Calls upon Harmachi Town Head to rescue Yoko Kaneko Yoko Kaneko is a Chinese woman who lived in Harmachi, Sado, and was arrested
and detained by Chinese authorities in Beijing last Spring when she distributed
materials exposing the Chinese government's illegal persecution of Falun Gong.
On September 3, 2003, members of the Yoko Kaneko Rescue Alliance visited
Harmachi Mayor Soukawa to appeal for the early release of Yoko Kaneko. Mr. Soukawa expressed, "Yoko Kaneko is a Chinese national. Though it is
a bit difficult, I will convey your appeal at Harmachi Town meeting." At 11:00 a.m. on September 6-7, Yoko Kaneko's husband Mr. Atusi and members
of the Rescue Alliance will collect signatures and appeal to local people at
Steamboat Dock and Walk Street in the city of Ryotsu. Niigata Daily (Japan) September 7th report: Signature
collection drive held in Ryotsu to rescue Yoko Kaneko imprisoned in China On September 6, 2003, Yoko's husband, Mr. Atusi, and some members of the Yoko
Kaneko Rescue Alliance held a signature collection drive in the city of Ryotsu. Nineteen people, including Mr. Atusi and members of the Alliance for Rescuing
Yoko Kaneko, participated in the signature collection. The activity is to appeal
to the County Council in hopes that the County Council would call upon the
Japanese government to request the Chinese government to release Yoko Kaneko as
soon as possible.
