On September 3, 2003, members of the Yoko Kaneko Rescue Alliance visited Harmachi Mayor Soukawa to appeal for the early release of Yoko Kaneko.

Mr. Soukawa expressed, "Yoko Kaneko is a Chinese national. Though it is a bit difficult, I will convey your appeal at Harmachi Town meeting."
