Third Party Commentary on the Xinhua News Agency's Story, "Reviewing the Past Four Years" By Sima Tai

Dafa practitioners' opinions.) On September 7, 2003, Xinhua News Agency issued a long article entitled, "Reviewing the
4-Year Ban on Falun Gong--Eliminating the Evil Should be Thorough to Let the Country Be at Peace,
and the People Safe." This article lists no author and is full of such ranting and raving as
"thoroughly eliminate," "continue to suppress," "walk towards doom,"
and "wage a last-ditch struggle." It is very reminiscent of the diatribes against
"American Imperialism" commonly heard during the Cultural Revolution. Media think the Xinhua News Agency issued this article in response to the lawsuits by Falun Gong
against Jiang and his regime for genocide and torture worldwide. It is easy enough to see through this article how Jiang has manipulated the power of the State to
persecute Falun Gong during these past 4 years. Take a look at these phrases: "All Party
members have acted, all of society has joined in," "people have taken their own initiative
to jump into this fight," "Educating through each level of the Party, through the
government, related organizations, and all groups of people," and "formed an environment
throughout the whole country." These words vividly describe how widespread the involvement of this persecution movement has
been, how deeply this persecution has reached, and how huge the costs in manpower and state
finances. The reader can tell who is disturbing the peace of the country and safety of the people. The article listed two main crimes by Falun Gong: first, suicide and killing; second, tapping
into satellite systems and spreading information through IP phones or cell phones. It is worth mentioning that these two "crimes" were alleged by the Jiang regime only
after Jiang started persecuting Falun Gong, further showing that Jiang did not have sufficient
reason to persecute Falun Gong in the first place. Even more ironic, these two "crimes"
actually contradict each other, since the purpose of "tapping into satellite systems, and
spreading information through IP phone or cell phones" is to expose the fact that those
suicide/killing cases are actually fabrications by Jiang. Killing is a very grave offense. Jiang controlled all normal channels of information, so there
was no other way to restore Falun Gong's innocent reputation and clarify the truth. Jiang never
dared to reveal to the public the content of the information from Falun Gong, because it revealed
exactly how guilty he was. As usual, this slanderous Falun Gong article is full of lies, such as: No wonder this article's author did not dare have his name in print! Persecuting Falun Gong was
Jiang's own, individual idea. Even within the Politburo there were different thoughts on this
matter. The common people never requested such a law, yet the article reports there was a
"strong request by the people" If Falun Gong truly encourages students to die, then the information broadcast by "tapping
into satellite systems and phones" should be calling practitioners to die, etc. Why doesn't the
Xinhua News Agency just broadcast the information spread by Falun Gong, so everyone can discern for
himself or herself the "ulterior motive" of Falun Gong? Wouldn't that save a lot of
trouble? No one would need to work through the statement "Let people see fully the long term,
difficult, and complicated nature of this struggle?" It looks like Xinhua News Agency is very familiar with Falun Gong's principle of "do not be
politically involved." I sought out the original quote of Mr. Li, the Falun Dafa founder, mentioned by Xinhua News
Agency. The quote, from Teaching the Fa at the 2003 Midwest-U.S. Fa Conference is actually,
"the Chinese government has always been spreading lies to deceive the public, fabricating
rumors, making up false news, and causing the deaths of so many common, mainstream people through
persecution. How wicked--could this regime still be allowed to exist? Faced with a future society
that has a complete system of law, those people can't escape justice!" Xinhua News Agency equates an evil power that deceives people to "socialist China."
Power and the country are two different concepts, and Mr. Li never said Falun Gong would overthrow
this power. Doing too many bad deeds, the power would collapse naturally. Weren't there dynasty
changes like this in the thousands of years of Chinese history? Mr. Li only pointed out this
historical phenomenon. He also mentioned "a future society that has a complete system of
law," indicating China has a beautiful future. How can this be "opposing China and its
people?" The fear of Jiang and his regime of "a future society that has a complete system of
law," has caused him to block the country's progress and is the true "opposition to China
and its people." 4. "Eliminate the Evil Thoroughly, So the Country Can Be Peaceful and Strong, and the People
Safe and Rich." Everyone knows that corruption is the main problem affecting the stability of China. Corrupt
officials and merchants lead to unemployment, organized crime, the spreading of epidemic diseases,
etc. The principle that Falun Gong follows is "Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerance,"
which can only benefit the stability of the society. Is there any corrupt official practicing Falun
Gong? Is there any person who frequents prostitutes practicing Falun Gong? The current focus in China is on developing its economy, but Jiang squandered manpower and money
on persecuting a group that is benefiting society instead of taking care of those groups that really
need government help. Let everyone decide who is damaging the country's stability. The future of the Chinese people will be determined by whether or not China can progress towards
a democratic, healthy, and free society. I hope each and every person will think about exactly who
is the cult mentioned by Xinhua News Agency, and exactly how we can achieve "the Country Can Be
