Wanjia Labor Camp Police Refuse to Release Dafa Practitioner Shao Benyan Even After She Went Blind from Being Tortured (Photo)

Ms. Shao Benyan is a 46-year-old Dafa practitioner from Yichun District, Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province. She began practicing Falun Gong in 1996. In October 2001, she was arrested for distributing Dafa truth-clarification materials and sent to a detention center. She remained firm in her belief despite the torture. In July 2002, she was sentenced to three years of forced labor at the Wanjia Labor Camp. Because she never wavered in her belief, she was closely monitored, given very little food to eat, and forced to do intensive labor. As a result, both of her hands were rubbed raw and festered. Moreover, the police threw her in a confinement cell for one month. Recently Shao Benyan has become blind due to the torture and she is not able take care of herself. However, the labor camp still refuses to release her. We call upon the international community and human rights organizations to help stop the human rights abuses at the Wanjia Labor Camp and secure Ms. Shao's release.
