A Letter to the Editor of the Danish Newspaper "Politiken": Expelled to an Uncertain Fate

September 15, 2003

In Denmark, what becomes of a foreign citizen who has been exposed to persecution from the authorities in China? Does he have any rights in Denmark? The persecution can be documented for the consideration of the Danish authorities. The risk of being exposed to rough questioning and torture is impending on a man who is still in Denmark, where he has run his business for three years, but who could soon be forced to return home.

Xuezhi Zhu is a Chinese citizen and his visa expires today. The regime in China has confiscated his companies there. The Chinese embassy in Denmark has actively assisted in making Zhu bankrupt, stateless and even a refugee in Denmark. Why? Because he has practiced Falun Gong since 1997, first in China and later in Denmark. Falun Gong is well known for its positive effects on moral values and health.

There are people in almost sixty countries practicing this traditional Chinese method, which is related to acupuncture and Tai Chi.

China's former leader, Jiang Zemin, implemented a ban on Falun Gong in 1999. His regime was frightened when they recognized Falun Gong's immense popularity, with the appearance of around one hundred million practitioners in China in just a few years. Several hundred practitioners have died in China as a result of torture.

In a state where one person can rule everything, it was no use that others in the government were against the ban. Few dare to risk their lives for the truth. Yet this is the choice millions of Falun Gong practitioners face every day, when they, with a knife at their throat, are forced to choose between their faith in Truth, Compassion and Tolerance or captivity, torture and death. In reality this is the choice Zhu is faced with here in Denmark. What is the Danish view on human rights when it comes to a refugee like Zhu, who is not a political dissident, but a pure and simple human being, who practices Falun Gong for the sake of his spiritual and physical well-being?

Lawsuits have been filed in five countries against China's ex-president Jiang Zemin for torture and genocide against Falun Gong practitioners.
