Commentary on a Critical Article by Xinhua News Agency - Who are "the People"?
By Fei Ming
(Clearwisdom.net) September 11th report: the beginning of a
recent critical article published by the Xinhua News Agency states,
"In July 1999, the Chinese government ...according to the strong request
from the people." It's lying right from the start.
I want to ask the journalist who wrote this article: what evidence do you
have to prove this "request from the people" in July 1999? What are
their names, addresses, gender, and jobs of these people? How many
"people" are there?
If you cannot provide the names, then did you conduct any civil survey before
July 1999? What method did you use? How many people were included in the survey?
What was the result of the survey? What is the standard deviation?
If you can neither provide the true names or a survey result, then Jiang
Zemin cannot represent "the people," unless through the National
People's Congress (NPC). Of course, everyone in China knows the NPC treads over
the will of the people instead of representing it. However, when Jiang's group
began secretly abducting Falun Gong practice site assistants throughout China on
July 20, 1999, they didn't even go through the NPC. So isn't the statement,
"strong request from the people" the biggest joke ever?
Talking about "the people"- according to the grossly underestimated
number given by Jiang's group in July 1999, at that time there were two million
Falun Gong practitioners. Aren't these two million people and their friends and
family part of "the people"? These practitioners came from all
segments of society. Some are factory workers, some are farmers, some are
professors, some are doctors, and many are government workers. Preceding July
1999, they wrote many letters to the government, telling the benefits Falun Gong
brought them, and they asked the people in power to stop persecuting Falun Gong.
Isn't this considered a "strong request from the people"?
In fact, we all know that the persecution against Falun Gong was solely
Jiang's personal crusade. The people aside, very few officials in the Politburo
agreed with it, and that doesn't include people in the Party or the Chinese
government.
Saddam Hussein, Iraqi's former dictator, announced he had been elected
president with a 100 percent vote. What a laughable "will of the
people." Jiang is worse than Saddam for he never even went through the
formality of an election. This dictator's power exists without a trace of
legitimacy, yet he brazenly shouted his "Three Represents," theory as
a political slogan claiming he represents the interests of the majority of the
Chinese people. Here I must ask Mr. Jiang, "If no one chose you to
represent them, then how can you claim that you represent their interests? On
the issue of persecution against Falun Gong, you were the one who acted so
hysterically on this issue, so how dare you claim it was the "strong
request from the people"?
In China over the past fifty years, every political persecution and massacre
was claimed to be upon the "strong request from the people." As we
reach this stage of history, a vile and jealous dictator can still claim that
his personal grudge is based on the "strong request from the people."
This is shameful for the nation of China.
