Han Menjie, the former Deputy Chief of Weifang City Beigong Police Station, was a 40-year-old male who was heavily involved in the persecution of Dafa practitioners. As a result of his foul deeds, more than ten practitioners were sent to a detention center. This act led to his 2001 promotion to the position of Section Head and finally to that of Deputy Chief last summer. Han died from drowning during a trip with his family.

A huge explosion killed two people on Monday morning, December 1, 2003, in the toothpaste factory affiliated with the university, and did structural damage to the building as well. The blast happened at 6:19 a.m. As a result, all the glass in the windows and doors was shattered and the window and doorframes were bent out of shape and off their hinges and.

This university has been heavily involved in the persecution of Falun Gong. In August 1999, the early persecution period, the university authorities took the lead and sent the first Dafa practitioner in the nation to a mental hospital to be persecuted even though the person had no history of mental illness. In 2000, many practitioners who were either employees or students were forced to resign from the army or expelled from their positions as students at the university.

Some of the practitioners who persisted in Falun Gong were illegally arrested. One extreme case deserves to be noted: Cui Hong, the university Deputy Political Commissioner had sent his own daughter, a Dafa practitioner, to a detention center and forced her to give up her belief. He died of liver cancer.

The university also requested the local police to illegally send Ms. Fen, the relative of a college faculty, to long-term detention. Ms. Fen went on a hunger strike for over 80 days, during which time the perpetrators force-fed her over 60 times. She was not released until she was near death.
