Students and Faculty at China's Northeastern Normal University Persecuted for Practicing Falun Gong
(Clearwisdom.net) Since July 20, 1999, many students and faculty from China's
Northeastern Normal University and its affiliated high school were persecuted
for their steadfast belief in Falun Dafa and unwavering adherence to the
principle of "Truthfulness Compassion Forbearance." The corrupt administrators
from the University and the local police follow Jiang and his vicious policy
against Falun Gong practitioners that states, "Ruin their reputation, destroy
them financially, and eliminate them physically."
Students and faculty are forced to write the "Three Statements" and
dormitories and apartments are unlawfully searched for Falun Dafa books and
materials [The Three Statements consist of a letter of repentance, a
guarantee to never again practice Falun Gong, and a list of names and addresses
of all family members, friends and acquaintances who are practitioners].
Dafa practitioners are expelled from school, fired from their jobs and and their
Party memberships are canceled. They are also fined and evicted from faculty
housing owned by or associated with the university. The corrupt people at the
university also actively cooperate with the local police to send Dafa
practitioners to forced labor camps, detention centers, and brainwashing
centers. Dafa practitioners and their families have been tormented cruelly.
Practitioners have suffered tremendously both physically and mentally and their
lives have been destroyed.
New undergraduate and graduate students are not admitted to this university
if they practice Falun Gong. Graduates from this University who practice Falun
Gong are not granted employment. Thus far, one Dafa practitioner has been
tortured to death; many were sent to forced labor camp, fired or expelled.
Nearly 30 practitioners from Northeaster Normal University were illegally
detained. Below are the facts regarding the persecution against Falun Gong
practitioners that has been supported by the University:
- Mr. Bai Xiaojun, 36 years old, had a master's degree in Philosophy and was
the editor for the University Journal and was employed by the University's
Media/Propaganda department. This department is under the direct control of
the Party Commission. Since July 20, 1999, Xiaojun had traveled to Beijing
many times to appeal for the constitutional rights of Falun Gong
practitioners. He was detained several times.
In July 2000, he was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labor. He
was sent to Fenjin and Weizigou Forced Labor camps in Changchun city where he
suffered brutal torture. He was severely injured and thus taken to the labor
camp hospital. On February 12, 2002, he was released from the labor camp after
more than seven months of imprisonment and immediately taken to the
Xinglongshan brainwashing center for another month. Afterward, he was
illegally held at Changchun Metropolitan No.3 Detention Center for nearly one
month. Because he refused to renounce Falun Dafa, he was again sentenced to a
three-year forced labor term in April of 2002. He was detained at the No.4
Section of Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City.
Frustrated by their failure to successfully brainwash Bai Xiaojun and force
him to renounce his belief in Falun Dafa, the vicious police instructed
inmates to pour salt water onto Xiaojun's body, which was covered with scabs
from the torture at the labor camps. Starting in June of 2003, Xiaojun became
bedridden and was unable to eat or drink for three weeks. The labor camp
authorities ordered the guards to ignore Xiaojun's deteriorating health
condition. On July 18, 2003, Bai Xiaojun died at the Changchun Hospital for
Infectious Disease.
- Mr. Xie Fei is 30 years old and a teacher at the University's affiliated
high school. After July 20, 1999, Fei was persecuted time and again. At early
2001, he was illegally detained and held at Tiebei Detention Center in
Changchun City. He was fired by the high school on his return and evicted from
his school housing. He has since been homeless. In March 2003, (when the Party
conference was in session), he was secretly detained by the National Security
Agency at Changchun No.3 Detention Center.
- Mr. Cai Ke is 30 years old and a teacher at the University's affiliated
high school. Mr. Cai has been persecuted repeatedly since July 20, 1999. In
July, 2001, he was illegally detained and held at Changchun Balibao Detention
Center. He was fired by the high school for practicing Falun Gong. In March
2003 (when the Party conference was in session), he was secretly detained by
the National Security Agency at Changchun No.3 Detention Center.
- Mr. Sun Shibin was a teacher at the University's affiliated high school.
After July 20, 1999, Shibin suffered relentless persecution. He is currently
imprisoned at the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp in Changchun City.
- Mr. Jiang Song is 33 years old and a doctor at the University's affiliated
hospital. In October 2001, he was sent to a forced labor camp for one and a
half years because when police raided his home and found Dafa material.
- Mr. Ma Guohua is 34 years old and a librarian at the University. In
October of 1999, he was detained for four months because of his appeal in
Beijing. In June 2001, he was detained for three months for disseminating
factual material about Falun Gong. Because of his steadfast belief in Falun
Gong, he was disqualified from receiving a promotion in the teaching
profession at the University.
- Ms. Yang Yujie is 60 years old and was a faculty member at the Institute
of Foreign Languages. She was persecuted and suffered political persecution,
as her Party membership was cancelled.
- Ms. Sun Min is 47 years old and a logistician. In November of 2000, she
was illegally detained and forced to give up her job, because of her efforts
to clarify the truth of the persecution of Falun Gong, including the
dissemination of informational Dafa material. During the search and arrest
campaign at Changchun in March 2002, her home was ransacked and she was
illegally detained.
- Ms. Li Haizhen is 35 years old and a faculty member at the Institute of
Foreign Languages. She was persecuted and suffered political persecution, as
her Party membership was cancelled during May of 2003.
- Ms. Wang Huilian is 31 years old and a faculty member at the Institute of
Urban and Environmental Sciences. In 2000, she was admitted into a PhD
program. However, her PhD candidacy was withdrawn because she practiced Falun
Gong. In 2001, because of her appeal in Beijing she was illegally detained for
15 days. In 2001, she was detained for six months and her salary was
suspended. For these past several years she was unjustly labeled as
"Unqualified Faculty" simply because of her steadfast faith in Falun Dafa. In
2003, she lost her Party membership because she refused to renounce Falun Dafa.
- Mr. He Jie is a PhD candidate at the Institute of Japanese Research. He
was placed under house arrest in October 1999 because the police were afraid
that he would travel to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. In 2000, he was
expelled from the University because of his steadfast belief in Dafa.
- Ms. Yao Xiuling is 29 years old and a master's degree candidate at the
Department of Mathematics. In March 2000, she was illegally imprisoned for 15
days because she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa.
- Ms. Sun Danting is 29 years old and a master's program candidate at the
Institute of Life Sciences. In March, 2000 she was illegally detained for 15
days because she went to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa.
- Ms. Ren Shuxia is 32 years old and a master's program candidate at the
Institute of International Business Management. In March of 2000 she was
illegally detained for 15 days because of her appeal in Beijing.
- Ms. Qi Jie is 27 years old. Jie has a bachelor's degree from the Institute
of Chemistry. In 2000, she was illegally detained for 15 days for her appeal
in Beijing for Falun Gong. In 2001, her graduate candidacy was withdrawn
because she practices Falun Gong. She was then transferred to Dandong No. 2
High School to teach. In 2002, she was sent to jail because she went again to
Beijing to appeal for the constitutional right to practice Falun Gong. She is
still currently being held at a prison in Shenyang.
- Ms. Xu Ke is 23 years old and an undergraduate in the literature
department. In 2003, she qualified for admittance to the Graduate School at
Fudan University. Because she practices Falun Dafa, her graduate candidacy was
withdrawn.
- Ms. He Jun is 26 years old and was an undergraduate in the literature
department at the University. In July of 1999, she was illegally detained for
going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. She was then suspended for one
year. In 2000, she was arrested again for appealing in Beijing. She was
released after her family paid a guarantee fine (bail money that might only
be returned if He Jun no longer practiced or appealed).
- Ms. Xu Xuemei is 23 years old and is an undergraduate student in
literature at the University. In October of 2001, she was illegally arrested
for practicing Falun Gong. Her family was forced to pay a guarantee fine for
her release.
- Ms. Bao Caihong is 26 years old and was an undergraduate student in the
Department of Mathematics. In March of 2003, she was illegally imprisoned for
15 days for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing. In October of 2001, she was
reported to the police and detained for clarifying the truth about Falun Dafa.
- Ms. Shao Rong is 25 and was a student at the Institute of Foreign
Languages. In March 2000, she was detained for 15 days for going to Beijing to
appeal for Falun Gong.
- Ms. He Xuxuan is 28 years old and was an undergraduate student at the
Department of Physics. In March 2000, she was imprisoned for 15 days for going
to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong. Because of her steadfast belief in Dafa,
she was fired from her job and she became homeless.
- Mr. Li Chuan is 28 years old and was an undergraduate student at the
Department of Physics. Chuan was imprisoned for 15 days for his appeal for
Falun Gong in Beijing in March of 2000.
- Mr. Nian Suoyuan is 26 years old and graduated from the Department of
Chemistry. Suoyuan was imprisoned for 15 days for appealing for Falun Gong in
Beijing in March of 2000. In November of 2000, he went to Beijing again to
appeal for Falun Gong. He was illegally detained for one month.
- Mr. Li Jun is 28 years old and was an undergraduate student in the
Institute of International Business Management. Jun was imprisoned for 15 days
for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing in March of 2000.
- Huang Wenfu is 29 years old and was an undergraduate student at the
Institute of International Business Management. Mr. Huang was imprisoned for
15 days for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing in March of 2000.
- Ding Xianping is 28 years old and was an undergraduate student in the
Institute of International Business Management. Mr. Ding was imprisoned for 15
days for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing in March of 2000.
- Ms. Cao Di is 25 years old and was an undergraduate student at the
Institute of Chemistry. Cao Di was illegally detained for 15 days in March of
2000 for appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing. In November of 2000, she went to
Beijing again to appeal for Falun Gong and she was again illegally imprisoned
for one month.
- Wang Lifang is 26 years old and was an undergraduate student at the
Political and Judiciary Institute. Ms. Wang was imprisoned for 15 days for
appealing for Falun Gong in Beijing in March of 2000.
