Written on the Night Before the Unlawful Trial of Mr. Wang Weiyu, a Tsinghua University Alumni

(Clearwisdom.net) A cold night befell Germany and enveloped it with peace and serenity. I wished my heart could be as peaceful as this night, but how could that be possible? Early in the morning of, January 9, 2004, in German time, Mr. Wang Weiyu, my fellow alumni from Tsinghua University in China and a close friend of my husband, was scheduled to be tried in a court of law without proper legal procedure or representation. Weiyu and two other alumni of Tsinghua University were to be tried in Beijing for their personal belief in Falun Gong, despite the fact that the Chinese Constitution guarantees every Chinese citizen their personal freedom of belief.

It is now late at night in China. I wonder if Weiyu and his wife are as sleepless as I am. Weiyu's wife hasn't been able to see him since the Chinese State Security Bureau took him away in August 2002. Are Weiyu's parents also sleepless tonight? Since childhood, their son has always stood out among his peers. He has always been their pride and joy, but tomorrow Jiang's followers, in violation of the Chinese Constitution, will try him in a show trial.

Weiyu, as I am writing this article, I feel I could almost pierce the darkness of the night and see your kind and honest face. I know the reason why you, my fellow alumni and fellow Falun Gong practitioner, are placed on the stand as a defendant. You are not at fault in a country where right and wrong have been turned upside down. You are innocent of committing any crime.

Dear Weiyu, on the night before the unlawful trial, I hope that my voice of support will be able to reach you on the other side of the earth. This is what I wish to tell you:

Ms. Xiong Wei is a Falun Gong practitioner who had studied in Germany for six years. The police seized her while she was distributing truth-clarification flyers in Beijing, and the court sentenced her to two years in a forced labor camp. However, through the cohesive efforts of Falun Gong practitioners worldwide, especially those in Germany and Israel, she was released unconditionally several days ago.

In addition, with the rescue efforts of overseas Falun Gong practitioners, seven family members of Falun Gong practitioners in Canada have been released from Chinese labor camps and prisons. More and more overseas Falun Gong practitioners who have survived the forced labor camps and prisons continue to step out and reveal the facts of persecution to foreign governments, to the media, and to people all over the world. I want you to know that Falun Gong practitioners in Germany, the United States, Belgium, Taiwan, Spain, and Korea have all filed lawsuits against Jiang Zemin. Falun Gong practitioners in more than ten countries have also filed lawsuits against Chinese government officials who have participated in Jiang Zemin's persecution against Falun Gong. Jiang and his cohorts surely are in a panic, for they know in their hearts that justice will inevitably be served.

In the ultimate trial in history, it won't be you or other Falun Gong practitioners who will be tried, but Jiang Zemin and his followers. The ultimate trial of history has already begun. Even though I am on the other side of the earth, my spirit will always be with you and will support you in tomorrow's trial.
