Female Korean Practitioner Jin Yushan Goes on a Hunger Strike to Protest Her Unlawful Imprisonment

(Clearwisdom.net) Jin Yushan, a Falun Dafa practitioner from Huadian City, Jilin Province, was seized by authorities on April 19, 2003 and sentenced in October to 10 years of imprisonment. Sources indicate that the prison refused to admit her, but Huadian City Detention Center refused to release her. Jin Yushan is now on a hunger strike, protesting her illegal imprisonment.

Jin Yushan is a 52-year-old retiree from Huadian City Bank of Industrial Commerce. Since she started practicing Falun Dafa in 1998, she has benefited a great deal. When Falun Dafa was banned on July 20, 1999, she went to Beijing numerous times to appeal to the government and has been jailed several times. However, it has not shaken her righteous faith in Falun Dafa.

She was detained twice in 1999 for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Dafa. Towards the end of 1999, along with twenty other practitioners, she was sent to a forced labor camp for one year. As soon as she was released, she continued to clarify the truth about the persecution. She was again seized by the authorities in February 2001 and sentenced to two years imprisonment, but was rejected by the forced labour camp for health reasons.

In the spring of 2002, when her husband lay dying, Huadian City Qixin Police Station sent out two dozen police officers, who stormed into Jin's home in another attempt to seize her. To avoid further persecution, Jin Yushan had to leave home. Three days later, her husband died. During her husband's funeral service, local police mobilized a significant number of police officers to monitor the memorial service and also attempted to take Jin into custody, but did not succeed.

In June 2002, Jin was again taken away by police for distributing Falun Dafa truth clarification materials. At the public security bureau, she was handcuffed and tied to a torture device known as the "Tiger Bench¹." However, with righteous thoughts and the protection of Teacher Li, she walked out.

In April 2003, Jin was again arrested by police and is still being detained at the Huadian City Detention Center. Her photocopier and Falun Dafa materials were confiscated. She has been sentenced to ten years imprisonment.

We appeal to all kind-hearted people to support her. We also appeal to fellow practitioners to send forth righteous thoughts to help Jin be released from the detention center. Local practitioners need to further expose the evils of the local authorities and clarify the truth.

1Tiger Bench: Practitioners are forced to sit on a small iron bench that is approximately 20 cm (6 inches) tall with their knees tied together. With their hands tied behind their backs or sometimes placed on their knees, they are forced to sit straight up and look straight ahead. They are not allowed to turn their heads, close their eyes, talk to anyone or move at all. Several inmates are assigned to watch over the practitioners and force them to remain motionless while sitting on the bench. Usually some hard objects are inserted underneath the practitioners' lower legs or ankles to make it harder for them to tolerate this abuse (see illustration on <http://www.clearwisdom.net/emh/articles/2001/11/24/16156.html>)
