Additional Information About the Torture-Induced Death of Ms Duan Shiqiong

(Clearwisdom.net) Dafa disciple Duan Shiqiong endured more than a year of incarceration, gross abuse, torment and persecution in the Chengdu City Detention Center. None of her family members received any information about her during that period. Even in the final moments of her life, Chengdu City Detention Center officials still did not inform her family.

When her husband saw her body, it was impossible for him to recognize his wife. Her face looked completely different. She only weighed about 50 lbs. The 34-year-old woman looked like more like a 60-year-old. When her husband stated that the body was not that of Duan Shiqiong, the police in the detention center suggested that they could do a DNA test. In order to save money, the police had kept the body in the mortuary of a very simple and small hospital for seven weeks. They performed an autopsy on her body and cremated her on November 5, 2003.

The following is her story:

Ms. Duan Shiqiong died at age 34. She had lived at 49 Yutie Village, Chongqing City and was a passenger train attendant for the Chongqing Railway Branch Bureau.

Duan Shiqiong began her Falun Gong practice in the autumn of 1996. Since 1999, when the persecution of Falun Gong began, she had suffered through repeated arrests and home searches. She went to Bejing to appeal twice and safely returned with the power of her righteous thoughts, but was forced to leave home in December 2000. She had been quietly doing Dafa work, printing Dafa fact clarification materials. Fuqin Police Precinct enforcers in Chengdu arrested her on August 28, 2002. Arrested along with her were Dafa practitioner Tang Sulan's elder brother Tang Jian and his mother Xiao Jiying, and Xu Kaifang, Xie Caile and Xia Xianzhi. They were secretly sentenced to heavy jail terms of from seven to 14 years. Duan Shiqiong was kept in cell 11-02 at the Chengdu City Detention Center.

Duan Shiqiong was subjected to maltreatment, abuse and torment during her detention and could not communicate with her husband, who is also a Dafa practitioner. Duan Shiqiong was secretly sentenced to seven years in jail by Jinniu District Court on June 19, 2003. Duan Shiqiong and other Dafa practitioners protested the sentences. The practitioners joined hands together in front of the detention center gate and sang song loudly "Falun Dafa is good."

Ms. Duan appealed to the intermediate court on June 27^th, 2003 and began a hunger strike on July 24th. She was transferred to the Surgery Department, bed 13, in the Qingyang District People's Hospital in Chengdu City, where she suffered vile tortures. The hospital administration sent a "critical condition" notice on September 10th. She died in the hospital at 3:00 a.m. on September 16th.

Duan Shiqiong's husband was also sentenced to forced labor. He was released on February 19, 2003. His son is only 5 years old. Duan Shiqiong's aged parents have no one to take care of them. While Duan Shiqiong's husband is suffering from the loss of a loved one, he still has to endure the police's harassment and abuse.

Ms. Duan Shiqiong's family members have recently hired a lawyer. They plan to start an investigation to collect evidence and take the murderers to court.
