Falun Gong Practitioner Ms. Jiang Shulan from Da'an City, Jilin Province Dies As a Result of Force Feeding

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Jiang Shulan, a practitioner from Da'an City, Jilin Province, was around sixty years old. On June 9, 2003, she died as a result of force-feeding for four days with high-density salt water in Da'an Detention Center.

In May of 2002, Jiang Shulan went to Tiananmen Square in Beijing to validate Dafa and was arrested by police in Beijing. Police from Da'an City Political and Security Office brought her back. She was later sentenced to two years in a forced labor camp. In June, she was sent to the Heizuizi Labor Camp in Changchun City, Jilin Province. In December, she was transferred back to the Da'an local detention center. Seven or eight other practitioners have been detained there for over eight months. To protest the torture, they went on a hunger strike on May 14, 2003. Under the order of Jiang's regime, the police did not care about their condition and claimed: "You deserve to be starved. You will be cremated if you die."

On the 21^st day of Jiang Shulan's hunger strike, under the incitement of Liu Yunhua, the head of the "610 Office" (an agency specifically created to persecute Falun Gong, with absolute power over each level of administration in the Party and all other political and judiciary systems), Xu Qiuxiang, the assistant director of the public security bureau and Chen Yamin, the director of the political and security office, the head of the detention center Zhang Xidong and a group of police force fed Jiang Shulan. Assistant head of the detention center Chang held down her feet, while Liu Mingxiao and Jiang Weidong held down her head. Zhang Xidong ruthlessly jammed a wood stick into her mouth, knocking out Jiang Shulan's four front teeth and causing her mouth to bleed instantly. Then, Zhang Xidong inserted a spring water bottle containing a high-density salt solution and rice flour into her mouth until she passed out and her eyes rolled back.

After a while, Jiang Shulan had a fever. Her chest and abdomen were especially hot and she fell unconscious. Her cheeks had two holes from being stabbed with the stick, and her upper jaw was injured so seriously that her bone was exposed. She suffered so much pain that she fell to the ground and fainted. After inmates repeatedly called for help, Wang Jian and another person came in to check. They tested her breath and said: "She is still alive." They then threw her back to her bed. Jiang Shulan was already at the edge of death. The prison doctor later came and said: "She is dying." Zhang Xidong still shouted: "Jiang Shulan, do not pretend to be weak." Jiang Shulan was only sent to the hospital three days after the force-feeding. The doctor said after examining her: "She does not have a pulse. Why do you still send her to the hospital?" Chen Yamin and others took her back to the detention center and did not inform her family. On June 9, 2003, the fourth day after the force-feeding, Jiang Shulan died.

Only after Jiang Shulan passed away did the local "610 Office," the political and security office inform her family. Police tightly guarded the morgue. Her family saw that Jiang Shulan was missing her front teeth and was emaciated, (she was 155 lbs before) and they wanted to sue them. The "610 Office" and the political and security office threatened her family and did not allow an autopsy. They said: "There is no point in doing an autopsy. We make the decisions. Hurry up and prepare the funeral; otherwise we will force you to cremate her." Seven days later, the "610 Office" and the political and security office forced her family to cremate her body. Later they paid her family 10,000 Yuan to cover their crime.
