Ireland: Rescuing Tsinghua Graduates

(Clearwisdom.net) Three Tsinghua University graduates - Yu Chao, Wang Weiyu and Chu Tong - will be illegally prosecuted at the Chaoyang District Court in Beijing. Many Tsinghua University alumni in Europe are old classmates or friends of theirs. This case has aroused a lot of attention from the Chinese community in Europe.

Yu Chao, Wang Weiyu and Chu Tong are all talented professionals. They represent the Chinese intellects of the new generation. Before the persecution of Falun Gong, Yu Chao was a senior engineer working for AMP, an American company. He was in charge of AMP's technical training of customers in China. Chu Tong was a lecturer in the Department of Electronics of Tsinghua University. Yu Chao and Chu Tong are married. Their son, Hu Hu, lost parental care when he was six years old. Wang Weiyu is an outstanding student and student cadre in Tsinghua University. He had the honor of joining the Ph.D. program in the Department of Precision Apparatus and Mechanics without having to take any entrance examinations. All of them were secretly kidnapped because they practice Falun Gong. They have been illegally imprisoned for an extended period of time. The farcical "trial against these three young intellectuals is planned to take place soon.

Since Jiang Zemin started persecuting Falun Gong in 1999, so-called "trials" of innocent Falun Gong practitioners have simply been superficial performances. The defendants are all convicted first and tried afterwards. Falun Gong practitioners do not have a chance to defend themselves. This is an abuse of the Chinese Constitution.

Mr. Zhu Bao, representative of the European Branch of the "Global Committee for Rescuing Persecuted Falun Gong Practitioners and specialist in the field of "Rescuing Intellectuals, is a Tsinghua University alumnus from the Nuclear Research Institute. He currently works as a computer engineer. Mr. Zhu arrived in Ireland in early 1999. He said, "Yu Choa, Chu Tong and Wang Weiyu are all my good friends. The serious concern incurred among the overseas Chinese about China's human rights situations due to the illegal prosecution against three Tsinghua University intellectuals has greatly damaged China's image. This case also exposed the real situation of the domestic upheaval in China, and the fact that intellectuals are still suppressed In China. It seriously impairs overseas intellectuals' willingness to return and make contributions to China.

Since Jiang Zemin persecuted Falun Gong and Falun Gong practitioners in July 1999, intellectuals, who are usually treated as the foundations of a country, have found themselves unable to escape suppression and abuse. Innumerable students, teachers and employers in the institutes of higher education have been suspended from their jobs or studies to be brainwashed or sentenced to labor camps, or even became destitute and homeless. Two incidents in particular aroused strong repercussions and attention in the international community. The first one is the death of Yuan Jiang at Lanzhou in 2001, who graduated from Tsinghua University in 1995. The second incident is the rape of Wei Xingyan, a female graduate student of Chongqing University, at Shapingba Baihe Detention Center by a policeman. Furthermore, Yu Choa's elder sister Yu Jia, who was a lecturer in the Economy Management Institute of Tsinghua University, was secretly "prosecuted and sentenced to three and half years imprisonment in 2000 for practicing Falun Gong.
